wine causing system slowdown
After upgrading to a 64bit system with new hardware, running 3d games with wine now results in my entire system becoming unresponsive until I kill wine (wineserver -k). I am using Arch Linux with the bin32-wine package from AUR, and have experienced this problem with wine 1.1.10, .12, and .13. Wine does use 100% of a single core, but it did this with my previous system as well. I've gotten

Input slowdown with Mass Effect in git
This usually occurs to me after about 15-20 minutes of playing Mass Effect in git and the latest xorg-server for gentoo (1.10.2). Overrides are d3dx9_36 and dinput8 (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16822).
After some time, the input response from the keyboard slows to about 1000 ms, hence making the game unplayable. The mouse input however remains sharp. When I quit the game, the keyboard

wineboot && wineserver
Hi all,
I'm currently writing a simple script for a few friends to install a
soft with wine.
The point is wineserver is not in the path of my user. Should I call it
directly from /usr/lib/wine ?
Another wine bin is not found : wineboot ? Is it linked with my distro
(Kubuntu/Debian based) ? Is it included in a lib I did not install ? Is
it installed in further versions (I use 20041019,

how to speed up OpenSSH command execution (and a speed analysis)
Hi.
I recently did some investigation about how to get out the last
microseconds of
executing commands via OpenSSH on remote host (of course I'm using
ConnectMaster).
MOTIVATION:
I'm introducing Nagios (well actualla Icinga) at the local institute.
We have
many active checks that must run locally on the remote hosts.
The "best" way to do this is using NRPE (Nagios Remote

problems installing wine
I just downloaded the latest version of wine from the site to install on
my system. My system is an Athalon XP 2400+ running Fedora Core 3,
fully updated.
I downloaded the file wine-20050419-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm and installed
it, then installed winetools-2.1.1-jo.i386.rpm to go with it.
I started winetools to do the configuration and completed each step of
the base install one at a time until

internet explorer
Hello,
Has anyone succeed to install Internet Explorer with wine-20041019 ? For
what I have seen from winehq it should be possible but I have not
succeeded. Which dlls and which config must I have ? I have tried with
ie5 and ie6. I suspect I must have some native dlls but I do not know
which and which config must I have.

Wineserver is not shooting down
First - Wine is great. I love it totally.
To login into a company website I have to use IE6 - Firefox is not handling the Web Site due to some reglementations.
IE6 runs fine and there are NO problems. Only after exit, the Wineserver keeps running and takes away a lot CPU Power. I can stop it manually (System Monitor -> Process. Right Click and I can stop it (and it relieves the Power from the

Issues and some questions
Hi,
I've been trying to get wine working and posted a question
earlier in which I don't seem to be getting any response to.
What I've done is litterally started over and still run into
issues.
First off here are the basics:
OS - Solaris 10 GA x86

Help, guys! Codeweavers Wine error.
It's telling me maybe my wineserver crashed.
How do I restart it? Logging in and out as user, in and out as root,
and rebooting did nothing.
I've had to resort to using (shudder) a Win dose to use Agent again.
I HATE that!
Help me, please, to restart my wineserver.

How to kill a running wine application
Question: How to kill a Windows application that runs with wine?
I have installed new stable version of wine for Debian. Then the Windows application starts OK but hangs for some reason (its the application logic fault). However I can't see any way to close the application window or to kill the application. I tried as in documentation:
# wineserver -k
bash: wineserver: command not found

Wine installation problem
Hi,
I have just compiled and installed wine-20011004, and I have go the
following problem when I start Wine:
wine client error:0x806bb68: version mismatch 54/59.
Your wineserver binary was not upgraded correctly,
or you have an older one somewhere in your PATH.
Or maybe the wrong wineserver is still running?
I have build and install it with wineinstall.
I have remove the previous version.

Can't start Wine after suspend on Laptop
Currently running Wine 1.2-rc2 on Ubuntu 10.04 x64 on a Lenovo ThinkPad x61. After doing a suspend, I can't run Wine. The app I normally run with Wine is Lotus Notes. But I've tried something as simple as going in to the wine config. I tried doing a wineserver -k but that doesn't help either. Only thing I found to work is a full reboot.
This has actually been happening since Ubuntu

I Know It's A Stupid Question......
........But I'm trying to give my son a "cool-yet-kind-of-geeky" 13th
Birthday Present......he hinted he liked the CentOS logo, but where
would I find things that are branded with it?....searching the web
doesn't really help me much, only because I'm not sure what I need to be
looking for...any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Trying to install an app from floppy
I've installed 1.0.r4 -- yes, it's kind of old, but seems to be the
latest binary available for FreeBSD 7 -- and it doesn't want to run
a setup.exe from the floppy drive.
$ rm -rf .wine
$ wine a:setup.exe

WINEPREFIX
I'm trying to run different win32 apps with different configs.
i was looking thru the man page and found the WINEPREFIX.
i added export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine.icad to my script that i use to
launch my application. It seems to find it, but now i'm getting:
$ icad
wineserver: mkdir /.wine.icad/wineserver-atlanta.ga : No such file or
directory
ok, i obviously did not understand something.

wineserver listening port 2001
Hello,
I'm running wine for 2 windows programs under ubuntu and it is working quite well.
But now I need the port 2001 open for an application (and I'm not able to switch this port as the application does not allow it :( ).
As I see in netstat -ap the wineserver is listening to this port 2001. (tcp 0 0 *:2001 *:* LISTEN

remotely displayed programs run only once
Hey all,
When I first start an Xsession (from dtlogin) I can telnet to the app
server (my linux box) and run Notes under WINE and it will display on my
HP box just fine. All Notes functions work, even printing. However,
when I File|Exit from Notes and then try to restart it, I get an error
on the host machine.
here is the error message:
