MemoriesOnWeb and wine
In http://www.edsupport.cc/mguhlin/archives/2007/08/entry_3550.htm, Miguel Guhlin asked how to install MemoriesOnWeb and its recommended codecs under Wine, so here goes. All I did was translate his instructions to wine-ese. 1. Download xvid for windows from http://www.xvid.org/Downloads.15.0.html, install it the obvious way: $ wine XviD-1.1.3-28062007.exe 2. Download lame from

Wine 1.0 criterias
Hi all Is there a list of criterias for a 1.0 release of Wine? I couldn't find one. I was looking in the developers mailing list. But there's only a collection of bugs that must be fixed. An important question for me is: How many native DLLs will be accepted for a 1.0 version? I don't get the point that installing _multiple _native libraries to make an application installable

Long answer: if you have the sources for an application written in C or C++ for Windows, you may be able to recompile it for Linux for zSeries using Winelib, although some extra work may be required to finish porting winelib to zSeries; see

Yet Another Call for Installer Bugs...
Thanks to James Hawkins and Mike McCormack, loads of progress has been made in fixing installer bugs lately, but there are probably many such bugs hiding in plain view still. It would be very helpful if people could look for installer bugs which: a) appear to be MSI or setupapi related, and b) aren't already in bugzilla (see

Random USB success story: i-Blue 747 GPS's datalog.exe
Found this while surfing random 'linux wine' blog hits: http://larsgard.com/nilsmagnus/?p=15 is a recipe for getting the datalog.exe tool that comes with the i-Blue 747 GPS reciever working in Wine. It uses usb as if it were a serial port. Kinda cool... - Dan -- Wine for Windows ISVs: http://kegel.com/wine/isv

PowerDVD 4.0: unimplemented function MFC42.DLL.6467 called in 32-bit code
I was able to install PowerDVD 4.0 by overriding mfc42.dll. So I could close bug 6067. Trying to run it I get: Unhandled exception: unimplemented function MFC42.DLL.6467 called in 32-bit code (0x7bc37f38). What should I do with this info? Open somewhere a bug? Is it a non-Wine bug? Googling for it gives that some other people had problems with it (see

Rethinking WineConf
Hi All, This past Wine conference, while great fun as always, was not as well attended as Wine conferences in the past. So I would like to stir up trouble by suggesting we rethink WineConf. For those that have not attended, the Wine conference has been a mostly annual affair since 2002. It is open to all, but is advertised as being aimed at Wine developers. About 35 people attend each year.

Wine-20010824 problems with wineinstall and loading windows DLL's
Hi I am running Slackware Linux 8.0 with Kernel 2.4.5 and perl 5.6.1. I have my windows partition(D:) mounted at /windows and my fat startuppartition(C:) at /dos. Windows itself is found in /windows/windows. Here's the other of my proposals for this year's Google Summer of Code. (The first is on cfe-dev.) It was suggested to me by Dan Kegel (from the Wine project, they really want this). Title: Microsoft Direct3D shader bytecode backend Abstract: There is a distinct lack of open-source frameworks for compiling HLSL, the shader language used by Direct3D, into bytecode that D3D can

What is best way to show only records belonging to logged user?
Hi all, What is best way to show only records belonging to logged user? I understand that it is better to handle this in model and not controller. I am thinking of intercepting find methods in model and add clause something like "WHERE id_user = #{user_id}". I would like to hear if you would do it likewise and if yes is it better to hack find_by_sql() or find() method? thanks in

Possible to check if form field is required?
Hi list, is it possible to check if form field will be required when form is submitted (through validates_presence_of or some other validates_* method)? I could do this manually but it doesn''t seems to me very DRY. For example, I would like to be able to dynamically add asterisk with some helper method if city is required here: City*: <%= text_field
