How to force G729
We want some of our users to use G729, and some others to use ULAW. Our PSTN gateway provider supports both, so that's not a problem, and if I force him (the PSTN gateway) to allow G729 only, the outgoing call will take place with G729.
The problem is that I want to have my PSTN provider configured to allow ULAW as a first priority, then G729. I did it like that:

1.6.0.5 - g729 'locked' by Asterisk
Hey guys,
I'm having a really huge problem, it seems like Asterisk is locking my
licenses of g729 after being used.
For example, 10 people make calls using this codec. Then I can see the
channels and the codecs being used, cool. But then when they hang up
the call the codes are still there, as being used...
I don't know if its a bug or a miss configuration, but the fact is
that I've

g729 codec - simultaneous calls
Hi,
I use asterisk 1.4.11 version for making outbound calls. Running it on linux(fedora core 7) machine. Recently purchased the g729 codec, got it registered with my asterisk box. I have two queries for you to help me.
1. How do i know when an outbound call is placed that it makes use of the g729 codec.
when i use the command "show g729" i get the following:

g729 registered
Hi guys,
I've registered some g729 licenses, during register process everything
worked fine.
astk2*CLI> show g729
0/0 encoders/decoders of 20 licensed channels are currently in use
But I'm not able to use this codec. I'm trying to use a linksys PAP2 to talk
using g729 but I got this answer from asterisk:

G729, x-pro, and codec ordering
-----Original Message-----
I'm crazy here trying to make X-Pro use ONLY g729, and you're struggling
to make it not to use it :)...
Can you please indicate what's your config for X-Pro and sip.conf?

G729 Transcoding problems
Hi
I've bought the Digium g729 codec and have installed it correctly (I think)
>> voip*CLI> show g729
>> 0/0 encoders/decoders of 3 licensed channels are currently in use
if I do an echo test either from a sip Cisco 7960 or another hard phone (unbranded)
using g729 it sometimes works and sometimes the announcement about the
test (echo-test.gsm) fails part way though but the

g729 problem
Hi.
I've searched the wiki and the newsgroup to no avail.
We have a couple of grandstream phones and purchased seceral copies of
the G729 codec for use with them.
We registered the codec (first time) on a testing machine and it worked.
We registered it on the production machine (second time) and it worked.
Then the production system crashed.
After reinstallation we had to

G729 license count...
I need a refresher course on how many licenses I need to buy. I have
an Asterisk server that receives calls by SIP (G729) and then sends them
to the PSTN via 32 Zap interfaces on an Astribank. I cannot remember if
the license is per channel or per call so I do not know if I need 32 or
64 licenses for this application. Could anyone please remind me?

G729
I have come to realize that I don't have to have a g729a license in
order to make use of an ATA-186 or 7460 connecting to another 7460. I
just need to allow the codec in sip.conf.
Now what ramification does that have when I dial out over one of my
analog line (connected to * by a channelbank and a T100P) using my 7460
or ATA-186. The only benefit I am looking for is reduced bandwidth

Any idea what causes "Oooh, got a frame with format of g729 on channel 'PJSIP/121-000001d2' when we're sending 'ulaw', switching to match"
The PJSIP endpoint is configured for ulaw only. Not sure how or why we are seeing the g729 on calls for this endpoint.
Would this be a case that asterisk detects the rtp stream is g729 even though it's negotiated as ulaw?
Why would asterisk change the format to g729 when disallow = all and allow = ulaw are the endpoint settings?

What can make G.729a codec hostid change?
After upgrading my small test system from Debian Etch->Lenny via a
complete reinstall, I find my g729 hostid has changed. Same machine,
same CPU, same NIC! It doesn't seem reasonable that I have to burn
my one "no-hassle" re-registration for a simple OS upgrade.
The README only says that hostid is based on MAC addresses of all NICs,
but that doesn't seem to be true. Does

transcoding with TC400P
Hello,
I have transcoding card TC400P installed in server running Debian with
Asterisk 1.4.23. Everything seams to be fine and after I boot up
server I see in dmesg:

g729 on 1.4.10.1
I have a fresh 1.4.10.1 installation that appears to have a problem
with g729 pass-through. I can see the gateway in question sending an
INVITE using g729b. However, the Asterisk is only sending g711 in the
INVITE to my Polycom phone.
[gateway]
disallow=all
allow=g729
[phone]
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw
allow=g729
There's the codec configs for the gateway and the phone in question.

Budgettone + G729
hi there ..
I asked sometime ago regarding getting a Budgettone
working with Asterisk over G729.
My system is quite simple, Asterisk server with 1 G 729 license
installed, and 10 Grandstream phones. Only one of them needs
G729, because it's on a remote link via an ADSL bridge. The
rest run happily on G711 on a local network.
I added the lines
disallow=all
allow=g729
to the sip.conf entry

Codec negotiation for Thomson ST2030 and g729
Hi all,
i'm trouble with codec setup on an asterisk machine 1.4.18 and some
Thomson ST2030 as extensions.
In the users.conf file for internal extension i have:
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=alaw
allow=ulaw
Without any codec installed (i mean with original g729 of asterisk)
all go fine, calling from an extension to one other:

G729 Licensing Revisited - I'm Sorry!
Hello Everyone,
We are looking to transition our 23 channels from testing/lab into
production. During testing we used the free open source g729 license
using the instructions found here:
http://blog.manhag.org/2010/05/installing-the-free-g729-codec-for-asterisk/
A little more about our setup. All recordings have been converted to
G729, all voicemail messages are also in G729, finally

My G729 problem re-visited
Ok, I built a test system to duplicate my problem and provide myself
a platform that I can mess around with to try and break any features.
My problem is G729 pass-through from a gateway to a phone. I think
I even have transcoding working, which makes me more confused on
what's wrong with my pass-through. It must be a configuration issue.
The basics...

I can do alaw, ulaw and gsm; remote can do g729 and alaw; asterisk wants to translate g729 -> alaw. WHY?

g729 encoder/decoder
How does the g729 encoder/decoder count in regards to the total number
of licenses and how does it count an encoder/decoder? I looked on the
wiki and don't really see anything that explains it. In other words,
how do the calls below count (assume no reinvite)?
g729 phone calls into voicemail
g729 phone calls g711 phone
g729 phone calls other g729 phone

g729 passthrough?
I'm sitting here with my dunce cap on. My weak excuse is that I haven't
ever played with g729 before.
I have a Sipura 841. I have the phone config set to use g729. Its
appropriate sip.conf entry, and the IAX stanza for my ITSP all set to
disallow=all, allow=g729.
But as soon as I dial, I get a complaint from the server:
-- Call accepted by 66.225.202.72 (format g729)
