size of speex packets when VAD/CNG is enabled
Hi all,
supposing to have speex working at 3.95, when VAD/CNG is employed, which
is the size of those "silence" samples respect to voice samples?
I am wondering if it could be possible to lower even the transmission of
VAD/CNG samples by specifying "outbound" in the communication channel
only 1 bit instead of sending the whole VAD/CNG packet.
I am doing the same for AMR

VAD/CNG
I know that asterisk does not support VAD. I poked around and saw some reference to asterisk supporting CNG. Will CNG work without VAD ? If yes is there any way to set this on asterisk 1.2.X for SIP using G729 ?
Thanks.

Possible malformed G729B - SID (VAD/DTX) frames from carrier endpoint ?
Hello,
We are in the process of debugging a voice quality issue for a client of
ours that is a VoIP services provider. The client uses a softphone that
runs on a pjsip stack.
When placing a call using the softphone, it negotiates the use of G729
codec with the remote endpoint (ptime = 20ms). The endpoint transmits RTP
packets with encoded G729 payload. VAD/DTX is enabled. We see that the

Alternatives to Digium 729
Per my conversation below with digium, are there any legal alternatives
to digium's G729? It is out of date, and doesn't support VAD nor silence
detection.
Digium has stated that they have no plans to update it anytime soon.
VAD/Silence is a big deal with major carriers and we are having to fight
a battle to get them to make special arrangements to turn off

Cisco 7905 - vad, cng
How to disable silence suppression (or Voice activity detection - VAD) on Cisco 7905 phone?
On Cisco 7940 I use "enable_vad: 0", but I can't find anything similar for 7905.

Silk CNG
I have difficulties to understand how to use Silk GNC.
I have enabled GNC (and VAD) something like this:
param.setting.vad = 1;
param.setting.cng = 1;
param.setting.plc = 1;
param.setting.penh = 1;
status = pjmedia_codec_opus_set_default_param(&config, ¶m);
I used debugger and printf to see that code executes in Opus CNG.c silk_CNG function noise generation loop. But still I cannot

Problem with fax tone (CNG) from TxFax and busy detect
I'm losing call files in /var/spool/asterisk/outgoing because * isn't
able to detect the busy signal. The call file looks like this:
Channel: Zap/g2/3036701917
MaxRetries: 1000
RetryTime: 60
WaitTime: 45
Application: TxFAX
Data: <filename>.tiff|caller
Using the "|caller" parameter, TxFax injects the fax tone (CNG) onto the
line. With the CNG tone, asterisk is unable

duration sec and billing sec in cdr
Hi guys,
i've installed asterisk to handle multiple voip accounts. I've looked
at CDR configs, and managed to have cdr-csv files growing after each
call. It would be easier to check my locak asterisk cdr's than logging
into each account and check them at the provider website.
i found that if i ring my sip softphone from my ata, bill seconds are
counted correctly. however, if i

c55x dsp
hi,
am trying speex on TI c54x dsp. does anyone has any idea whether
we can make both the coder AND decoder run in about 10ms for a 20ms
frame for this dsp, looking at narrowband, no VAD/CNG/VBR, using
a low complexity, say 1, for a midrange bitrate, say 15kbps?
was the c55 dsp able to run real-time on speex for the above configuration?
can someone share their timings?
tia!

IP FXS channel bank
Hi there,
I'm trying to get hold of an evaluation IP-enabled FXS channel bank. I'm not
sure if it's more a channel bank, or should be called a multiport-ATA. Oh well.
On the surface it looks quite nice - 16 FXS ports, and since it's connected to
the network I can do away with an E1/T1 connection required of the normal
channel banks (if it can be called that :)
Here are some

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your quick response.
So if VAD is enabled then VBR will be enable although it's a special VBR.
How about take out the VAD code from the VBR and remove the code else?

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hello,
I'm try to run speex on some ARM processor.
I'd like to cut away some speex features including VBR, ABR and preprocessor
while still supporting VAD/DTX.
But I've found some puzzles in the source code regarding VAD as below,
1) there are VAD related codes in the source file preprocess.c.
Will VAD still work If I don't use the source file preprocess.c?
2)The speex manual

Questions relating RTP packetisation
Hello.
I am working on implementing RFC 5574 (RTP Payload Format for the Speex
Codec) in the ffmpeg and have a question concerning it.
It would be nice if somebody could answered it.
* Chapter 4.1.1 Registration of Media Type Audio/Speex, subpart
"Optional parameters" states these SDP optional parameters:

VAD speex 1.2rc1
My data is speech sampled as pcm mono 32khz.
I want to use vad for regulating the agc gain mechanism.
So... if voice is not detected I just reduce the agc value
in order to not amplify the 'silence' otherwise we just
increase the agc value if it is below the minimum.
Thanks,
Daniel

VAD Questions
Hello all:
I am interested in using Speex for an application that streams audio
from a (noisy) source, so I am interested in VAD and DTX operation.
However, after browsing the archives of this list, I note that a
number of people have not been satisfied with the operation of the VAD
algorithm in Speex. This leads me to a few questions:
- Is there a reference somewhere (other than the source

FAX CNG detected but no fax extension
Hello,
I have a question regarding incoming fax to local file (on the Asterisk server).
While the fax is received properly (I have the tiff file generated as expected) I get the warning 'FAX CNG detected but no fax extension' on the consol.
If the fax is received ok then what 'fax extension' does it expect and what should I do there?

preprocessor VAD only rocognize between silence and not silence
Hello,
in my project im using speex 1.2rc1 and the preprocessor VAD seems to
only separate complete silence from not complete silence frames.
The Speex Manual, you can read "The voice activity detector (VAD)
provided by the preprocessor is more advanced than the one directly
provided in the codec."
but if you go to the source code in preprocess.c line 995 "/* FIXME:
This VAD
