back to basic NOTEPAD.EXE
In running NOTEPAD.EXE on a system (Fedora Core 6 freshly formatted, all
packages updated to latest) when I start NOTEPAD.EXE, I see:
fixme:edit:EDIT_EM_FmtLines soft break enabled, not implemented.
When I do File->Open, I see the following in addition to the first
message:
fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet implemented
Is this normal and is there anything I

running a .EXE
I have two computers with wine installed. The first is a Fedora Core 6
with all updates running wine-0.9.25. The second is a RHEL4 with
wine-0.9.27 compiled from source (./configure, make, make install). In
both cases I have a dual-boot partition with a WindowsXP NTFS, and I can
install and run ntfs-3g with no problem.
In the first system, I can navigate to the location of NOTEPAD.EXE and

Funny caching problem
Hi folks,
I am experiencing a strange problem with 1.9.18p7 on FreeBSD 2.2.2.
When I access files from the [homes] share, my Win95 client seems to be
caching the files, and not realising that the files may have changed.
For example, I can load a simple text file (from the [homes] share) into
Codewright on the Win95 client. Then I edit the same file using vi on the
samba server, and write out

Successful compile of Wine
I was able to compile and run Wine successfully this morning. I can now run
WELCOME.EXE, CALC.EXE & NOTEPAD.EXE where I am currently putting windows
(non-catalization intentional) programs in /c/windows.
I do have a coule of questions however. I get an error saying basically an
exported function needed from MSVCRT.DLL is not found, try using the native
one instead when running NOTEPAD.EXE

logging on client side on NT
Hi,
I would like to log whatever happens with rsync on client side when it runs
with Cygwin on NT4.
First, I just did a redirect of the screen output to a log-file:
rsync -rtv --delete --modify-window=2 --stats /cygdrive/g/users/bco/test/
bee2bs01::d/test/ >>c:\rsync\log\%FDATE%.log
The problem with this method is that it does not redirect whatever Rsync
reports as errors; because they

Access is denied
Hi,
I have some users who sometimes can and cannot connect from PC to UNIX drive through SAMBA. The message is "Access is denied" and they tried to connect to different server and it is working. This makes the users think that the server is down. In fact the server is not down.
Any one experiences this problem before?
Please advise.

not force-user'ing while printing?
Hi all,...
...currently I am trying to get the following setup up and working
here:
* capisuite (www.capisuite.de) works as an isdn/capi-based fax
solution for the LAN.
* cups is used as printer spooler, there is some "glue" package to
access capisuite through cups, thus generating a "print-to-fax"
solution.
* since the clients in the LAN still are all Windows NT 4,

R-0.61.1 compiled with egcs-mingw32
I have made available the work of the last weekend that I mentioned
in my previous messages on ftp://sirio.stat.unipd.it/pub/R.
Many thanks to Peter D. and Ross I. for their suggestions.
If you think that the work is of some interest, I can upload it
to CRAN.

how to tell if two file paths refer to the same file
Does R have a standard function that takes two file paths
(e.g., "./myDirectory/file" and "myDirectory/file")
and returns TRUE if those paths refer to the same file?
The paths make take different routes ("absolute" or
relative paths or via different symbolic or hard links)
to the same file or may use different naming conventions
(Windows or DOS 8.3 on Windows). If

lack of detail for exception in ov_open
I am having one frustrating time trying to decipher why ov_read is failing in my MFC/C++ application, and I see in Google results that others have had difficulty as well. These google discussions generally involve libraries, dll's and linking options, as though there are perhaps some basic incompatibilities between ogg vorbis and win32 and/or MFC/C++. Very confusing.

cannot dyn.load dll from path
Hello,
I'm on Windows, and according to the documentation R searches along the
search path when looking for dll's for dyn.load.
For illustration, I've copied the XML.dll from package XML in the C:/Temp
folder
if (file.exists("C:/Temp/XML.dll")) {
Sys.setenv(path = paste("C:/Temp;", Sys.getenv("path"), sep=""))

wine and security - lockdown suggestions
I only run one piece of software under wine but this app is still a great risk.
The intentions and opportunity of software developers not using open source should not be underestimated.
when i run
env WINEPREFIX="/ubuntu/PC1/.wine" wine C:\\windows\\system32\\taskmgr.exe
I am reminded again of all the security problems with windows.
I was thinking that it ought to be easier to

Cisco CallManager Image for 7940/7960
Does anyone have the .bin file(s) to convert a Cisco 7940/7960 back to the CallManager image?
I want to start playing around with the chan_skinny addition, but it seems the .exe's from cisco want to open a connection to a SQL server or CallManager (which I don't have).

Problem with shortcut
Ive made a shortcut to an EXE which relies on another EXE (both exe's are in the same folder).
If the shortcut is placed on the desktop, it will not work and report something about EXE not found.
If i run the shortcut from within the directory which contains both EXE's, it will work.
How do i get the shortcut to work? I think it had something to do with the equivalent of window's

Cron with Wine
I am currently using Windows self extractor from the command line and it works great to convert zip files to windows exe's. The issue I'm having is if I try and cron this through a shell scipt it complains with the following
