Announcement: Snom 360 with integrated XML O bjects
that is *very* cool. However, I am somewhat concerned about being forced to license the firmware (even if it is free) can you comment for the list the rationale behind forcing a license and how this might affect Snom users who, say, want to DOWN grade their firmware? ps is there a timetable for supported, formally released firmware version? -----Original Message----- From: Hirosh Dabui

OpenVPN/SNOM 820: a review.
Hey, all. Got an SNOM 820 in the other day to kick the tires. As with many phones, provisioning it was a bit of a PITA. The biggest problem, as far as I could tell, was that their firmware just doesn't seem that stable, and is sometimes hard to get to. - I managed to corrupt the firmware twice; fortunately, instead of bricking the phone, there's a fairly easy-to-use "rescue

OpenVPN on phones?
It's just come to my attention that newer phones from both Snom and Grandstream support OpenVPN. Is this a new trend or something? Since OpenVPN, in one swell foop, deals with both NAT issues and securing communications, I'd be very interested in hearing if other phone vendors were embracing OpenVPN as well. (Other VPN solutions are all well and good, but I really like the flexibility

SIP hardphones with xml/html/xhtml/microbrowser support?
What hardphones support xml/html/xhmtl/microbrowser? I need an inexpensive SIP hardphone that can run simple applications (queue status, etc). The phones I know of: Aastra 480i, 9112i, 9133i (though limited by 3 LCD lines on the 91xx seems kind of silly) Cisco 79xx Mitel 5235 Polycom IP601 Any others? -Dan

Cross-VPN Browsing
Hey all, I'm having a bit of a problem with cross-subnet browsing where one of the subnets is managed by an OpenVPN server. My network is set up with a central wireless router running OpenWRT. 192.168.10.x is the subnet for wired hosts and 192.168.20.x is the subnet for wireless hosts. To allow cross-subnet browsing, the OpenWRT router is running as a WINS server (samba). Now, I've

Sidetone with Snom 370
Hi all, I'm not getting any sidetone on my Snom 370. I searched the web and the snom wiki, but I don't see any place to enable/adjust it. Callers say I sound great on the other end, but I don't hear myself so it is a little off-putting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. On a related note, some times (maybe 1 out of 10 calls) I get the side tone, but its delayed by a second or

Feasibility of Tinc vpn with my current setup.

My current setup is as follows, IPfire router/firewall(openvpn client) --->ISP(Internet)--->Amazon VPS(openvpn server). The ipfire router is behind a CARRIER-GRADE NAT, I am able to reach the network

VoIP over virtualized VPN
Hi List, Our company has several small distributed offices we would like to inter-connect with bridged VPN a single subnet (last example in http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html). We have SIP phones in every office (up to 5) so we can use SIP without any NATing and securely. Max theoretical simultaneous calls possible ~30, but we have ~5-10 @ regular basis. OpenVPN server would be in the same

Shares get disconnected and cannot reconnect over VPN
Hello samba, I have an issue with OpenVPN 2.0 and Samba 3.0.14a. My setup consists in a routed VPN (thus server and clients are on different subnets) between a linux OpenVPN 2.0 server and some Windows 2000 VPN clients. Samba is the PDC and is a WINS server. The VPN clients work, broswing works, and I see the clients registering on the server's WINS in

[OT] VPN/DMZ best practices
There is such a wealth of knowledge and personal experience on this list that I'd like to get your opinions on our current situation. Currently, we have a simple tri-homed firewall with the internal network on one interface, the dmz on another, and the dirty internet on the last. Also, there is a spare interface on the box which is unused. We use CentOS and manually maintain our rule sets

It certainly isn't the easiest (set up VPN once on the router vs. setting it up N times on N different machines plus PKI infrastructure to handle certificate revokations etc.), and I doubt it's the best either, you'll have a lot of traffic overhead for basically no advantage. Feasibility of Tinc vpn with my current setup.
Thanks for the reply Guss, So in my case the Amazon VPS server is behind a FULL CONE NAT(static NAT), so is that enough to hole punch other nodes. what all ports will should be opened up on the NAT device? Most of the other nodes are behind cg-nat, so I wont have any control over its nat. Thank you, Regards, Bobby Thomas. On Oct 19, 2015 1:45 AM, "Guus Sliepen" <guus at
