installing a flopy prog with no floppy drive
I am trying to get a programmable database working, and what I see as the only
solution is a prog like access via wine. The problem is my computer that I
wish to install it on has no floppy drive, and this copy (the first version?)
comes with about 10 floppies.

How important are oplocks?
Hello,
I'm wondering just how critical it really is to turn off oplocks. It appears
that not only Windows 2k server, but also Netware 5 and above defaults to
having these enabled.
I just spoke with two software companies running databases off of file servers
(no database server, just MDAC stuff), and they had never heard of it, much
less require it to be disabled. Everything I've

Foxpro configuration
Hi,
could someone please give me the correct entries for using Foxpro with a
samba share. I tried everything I can think of in the smb.conf but I am
always confronted with locking problems and multiuser issues:
Upgraded to version 2.2.5
smb.conf (among other things of course)
oplocks=off
lock spin count = 3
lock spin time = 25
locking=yes
Is there anything you can tell me.
It is very urgent and

DBase File locking issues
Hi All,
I am experiencing issues with the use of DBase files on a Samba 2.0.5a
share, that appear to be due to locking problems. Basically, I have
test programs for both DOS and Win32 that does nothing but append
records to a DBase database (DBF/MDX files). If more than one client
PC is appending to this file, data loss occurs. I get random data
loss, with records lost, and index file

Hi all... Last monday i migrated form novell 4.0 to Samba 3.0 PDC. The server

FOX PRO 2.6 on SMB
Hello list
We have some Fox Pro apps shared on Samba server (I know FOX sucks) and
sometimes we need to recreate indexes, and we have to call all the users
and ask them to close their programs.
If we kill the user's smb process we got corrupted indexes...
here's the question : is there any way to force the used files by an smb
user process to close avoiding corruption, or perhaps make

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all,
Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business
Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which
are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can
see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not
visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server,

Unhandled Page Fault
I've encountered a problem that I've no idea how to solve, attempting to run a few different things in wine now. Exact specifics vary with what I'm trying to run, but I get the error:
Code:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x7e5112db (thread 0009), starting debugger...

Wine / Visual Foxpro 7 Problems (mouse click freezes the program)
Hi,
First of all, apologies if I'm not posting this in the correct place.
I'm successfully running Microsoft Visual Foxpro 7 under Wine, however I
needed to use the native versions of shlwapi and oleaut32.
There is a major problem still, however, and that is that foxpro will freeze
as soon as I use the mouse to click in certain controls (the command
window, a textbox, an edit box,

File lock
I am failing to lock a database file on a unix server (Solaris486) when
the file lock request is sent from Visual Foxpro on Windows 95.
Any suggestions on testing procedures, or even a solution??
Please feel free to assume that I don't know anything about file locks!
I don't even know how Visual Foxpro attempts to lock a file.
Would the Foxpro lock be recognised by any application?

Samba and Foxpro for Unix
Hi !
I have an unique situation.
An SCO Unixware 7.1.3 with Samba 2.2.7a (yes, i know; it sucks !)
On the machine, is running MS Foxpro 2.6 for UNIX (it's running pretty well
for several years) but due to new demands (like Crystal Reports, Visual
view; etc) the directories with DBF files were shared using Samba. At the
beginning, when everything was only about reading, there were no

Samba and FoxPro
Is Samba (1.19) incompatible with FoxPro? We have tried to network a
database package (FoxPro is the underlying DBMS) by putting it in a Samba
share. The database starts up and you can browse the tables, but it looks
as though FoxPro's record locking system causes the entire share to be
locked, so that further access to the shared drive (both in FoxPro and in
the Windows98 Explorer) is

FoxPro on Samba share
Ok, I'm sure you've answered this more then once, but still here it is :
I have a FoxPro 2.0 for Lan application that used to run on DOS boxes
connected to a Novell server (and of course with Novel client). Both
FoxPro .exe, .prg and database/index files reside on the shared disk,
and the client only maps a shared drive and starts the FoxPro
application from there. Due to some
