New Asterisk build
Hello Asterisk, Back in 2009 I built a small Intel Atom based computer running Centos 5 for my asterisk system. 5 phones, 2 people 1 POTs line and six or so SIP numbers. So basically no load. I'm feeling like it's time to build another machine. It's probably silly, but it's been six years and I can't upgrade the OS which is falling behind. I'd likely just put

To use asterisk or proprietary hardware, that is the question
Hi there, Here is my dilema. I have a new small business customer that wants me to put in a VoIP phone system for them. Based on their requirements, I have determined that it needs to be a "set it and forget it" type of thing like a lot of small business proprietary systems. At the same time they would like to be able to do minor dial plan changes themselves so I have determine

Flash IDE
Hi We have a number offices accommodating 4-6 people each hence it is very important for PBX to be fanless and silent. We have been looking at using IDE flash disks also called DOM. The performance tests we have done so far satisfy our requirements, however we are concerned with DOM durability. We have installed debian and vanilla asterisk on 1GB DOM. All seems to work fine at the moment however

Asterisk overheating on VIA Epia M Series motherboard
Hello I am running Asterisk on SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 on a VIA Epia M Series motherboard - CPU runs at 1GHz. There is no fan - just a large heatsink. Currently system is running off standard IDE hard drive - because I couldn't get astlinux to run with my Digium TDM04B card (only PCI card in system). Strangely I also have the same system also running SUSE Linux running as a file

Brainstorm: Running Asterisk as cool as possible - AKA solid state.
I would like to ask what people think the best way would be to build a low-power consumption, passively-cooled system. For example, one could use a fanless-Eden (mini-ITX/EPIA) system, but the loss of FPU power would limit performance. The obvious choice for FPU work are the Intels and AMDs, nut they're all power-hungry radiators. Is there something that can offer the quiet, power-savings of

Soekris net4801 for home use?
I'm considering that board as a mail and voip gateway for home use. In view of all those statements about how little resources asterisk needs, did anybody already try running asterisk on it? Thanks, Bruno.

Generic Question: Why should I use Asterisk over SIPxchange?
For those of you who have been working with asterisk for a while and who have experience with SIPxchange, why have you chosen Asterisk over the latter? What are some significant differences between the two that those of you familiar with both have discovered? Brent

asterisk on mini-itx
Hello, I'm trying to put together a low cost - low powers PBX appliance for several customers. I have purchased a couple of the soekris net4801 boards and have asterisk up and running on them fine but they just don't quite cut it in the processing power department. I've been able to get about 10 simultaneous SIP calls with simple ulaw (no encoding decoding). While this might be OK for

Samba slow to Windows clients
Hi All, I have just built a new P 4 1.8 RH8.0 Server rpmed up to Samba 2.2.7-2 It works GREAT for smbmounted shares on my linux boxes and sssllllooooowwww on my Windows clients (2K and 98) Specifically, moving a 15 Mb file over my 100 MBit network with one hub takes around 20 sec for the smbmounted share on a Linux box and 8 minutes on a Win2K/98 box. Any ideas? Simon

A bug in the R Mersenne Twister (RNG) code?
Whomever, I recently sent the "bug report" below toR-core at r-project.org and have just been asked to instead submit it to you. Although I am basically not an R user, I have installed version 3.3.1 and am also the author of a statistics program written in Visual Basic that contains a component which correctly implements the Mersenne Twister (MT) algorithm. I believe that it is

different results on linux and windows
Dear R experts, we are preparing an R-package to compute the Oja Median which contains some C++ code in which random numbers are needed. To generate the random numbers we use the following Mersenne-Twister implementation: // MersenneTwister.h // Mersenne Twister random number generator -- a C++ class MTRand // Based on code by Makoto Matsumoto, Takuji Nishimura, and Shawn Cokus // Richard J.

How hard to create Asterisk for Compact Flash?
I am aware of Astlinux and the other embedded Asterisk solutions out there? Astlinux is nice but the problem is that when I hit a snag and need to incorporate a patch and what not I cannot do that with Astlinux because I cannot compile my own version. How hard is it to create my own version of Linux/Asterisk to run on Compact Flash. I have seen 1GB Sandisk CF for as low as $50 recently so small

Linksys SRW224P POE Switch
We are currently considering the Linksys POE switch for a small Asterisk office deployment. There will be no separate wiring closet to put it in. Can anybody tell me if this switch has a loud fan? Users would not be able to tolerate a loud noise close by. Otherwise we will go with a fanless desktop switch. Thanks, -- Andres
