Access to floppy disk drive from wine-installed programs
Can anybody please tell me how to access the floppy disk drive from
wine-installed programs? I've installed some basic accounting software
which backs-up to floppy (don't laugh!), but when I try to do this I get
the message "no removable drives..." even though I've mounted the floppy
drive. The CDROM (fake d:) drive is listed in dosdevices, but floppy

Seagate floppy creator program doesnt work
Hi there,
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/download/seatoold_en.exe
Seagate offers a Windows executable (needs Win98 or better, 1,9MB) that
should create 2 bootable floppy disks that contain a harddrive check
program.
Invoking "wine seatoold_en.exe" works, but when the floppy should be
written, an error occurs "insert 1.44 MB...click retry". I tried to

Boot image from hard drive from syslinux initiated by a floppy disk boot
I have been trying to find the information by searching through the
archives and google, so I am sorry if this question has been asked
before I just have not been able to find an answer.
I have a syslinux boot floppy which loads to the boot prompt, I wish to
load a .gz image which is on my hd0 0 by using memdisk as the kernel. I
have tried to kernel memdisk append root=/dev/hd0 0 (also just

pxelinux/memdisk booting MSDOS floppy image requires local floppy disk
I found that if I do not have a local floppy installed and enabled on my client,
I will get the error 'Non-system disk' when I try to boot DOS floppy images.
NT or Syslinux floppy images boot fine.
If I enable the floppy in the BIOS, then it boots the DOS floppies just fine.
Is this normal? Is there a workaround?
There are MS-DOS images, so perhaps this is an MS-DOS limitation.

Creating floppy image without root permissions?
Hello All:
I've recently had to provision some RHEL and CentOS VMWare
instances. There was no network connectivity so I had to use a
kickstart floppy and DVD iso rather than installing from our
repository. To create the floppy I used the following:
As root:
dd if=/dev/zero of=floppy.flp bs=1k count=360
mkfs.vfat floppy.flp
mount -o loop floppy.flp /mnt/floppy
cp base_kickstart.ks

PATCH: Build floppy image which contains HDT
This patch builds a floppy image with contains HDT, so users of GRUB or GRUB4DOS can use HDT too, without installing Syslinux.
When you compile Syslinux, this floppy image isn't build automatically.
To build it, runthe following from the extracted Syslinux source:
$ cd ./com32/hdt
$ make hdt.img
As suggested by Pierre-Alexandre Meyer, all extra files required for building
the floppy

Build a bootable floppy image which contains HDT
It is now possible to build a bootable floppy image which contains HDT,
with my patch applied to Erwans HDT branch:
http://git.zytor.com/?p=users/erwan/hdt.git;a=commit;h=16b37fe2266c920087f88cdec94243b71218d871
Unpack the Syslinux archive and build whole Syslinux first,
then cd to ./com32/hdt/ and make hdt.img
$ make
$ cd ./com32/hdt/
$ make hdt.img
Now you have a 2.88 MB floppy image which

Memdisk/floppy image question
Here is the script I put together now. I hope I haven't overlooked
anything.
You might need to modify the first section of variables to suit your setup.
Ofcourse you need to run this as root. May be some version of this
should be included with syslinux?
Basically given an existing floppy image, it creates a larger image and
copies its contents over and sets up the bootsector of the

Problem with syslinux booting via network in floppy image
Hi as described on the syslinux pxe webpage:
A multi-hardware boot floppy is included with Windows
Server 2000 and 2003. A company called Argon Technology
used to offer a free-as-in-beer updated version, but is
seems to have gone fully commercial. This floppy (which can
also be burned to a CD using El Torito in floppy-emulation
mode), is known to work with PXELINUX 2.03 or later only

failed when boot the kernel image on the hard disk from syslinux on a floppy
After formatting a floppy to MSDOS format and using syslinux /dev/fd0,
I successfully installed ldlinux.sys to the root directory of the
floppy.
Then I created a syslinux.cfg under the root directtory of this floppy
to load the linux kernel in my first hard disk, 3rd partition, boot
folder. The file system
of this partition is ext3. The floppy has a FAT file system. This config
file is listed

bootable floppy image question
Hello,
I'd be very grateful if someone can help me with the process of creating
bootable floppy images to be used with isolinux/memdisk.
I usually do the following:
label image
kernel memdisk
append initrd=/bootdisk/image.img floppy
(lines in isolinux.cfg file)
Sometimes I pass memdisk the c/h/s parameters, depending on the image
size. I have learned from this mailing list how to

Boot with Grub the installation of FreeBSD_6.2 from an floppy image.
Hi,
I have 2 partition o my HD: /dev/hda1 e /dev/hda2 .
In /dev/hda2 there is Suse_10.1,
/dev/hda1 is empty,
and in the MBR there is Grub.
Normally, FreeBSD can be installed from a CD or a floppy,
but I haven't neither a cd device nor a floppy device.
So, I want run the installation of FreeBSD_6.2 from a floppy image.
In this thread there is an idea, but I didn't understand it.

failed when boot the kernel image on the harddisk from syslinux on a floppy
Thanks for responses.
I use GRUB as my bootloader in my hard disk now. I have a Windows in
sda1, Ubuntu in sda3.
If I want to install extlinux to boot Ubuntu, should I follow the steps
below?
1. in Ubuntu, go to extlinux folder, run command
./extlinux --install /boot
2. create an extlinux.conf in/boot
3. cd ../mbr
4. cat mbr.bin > /dev/sda (or use dd if=mbr.bin of=/dev/sda bs=404
count=1)

floppy image issues
Hi!
sorry for the top post.
I have had some troubles in the past trying to make equipment to
boot a floppy with MS-DOS that also used ms networking to access
the network.
Particularly the Gateway GSX 500 cannot have the onboard NIC with
PXE enabled, as it eats about 92k of highmemory, which in turn
makes impossible to start Windows XP setup due to low memory.
On that particular machine I had

problems with 2880 linux floppy image
Hi,
I'm using syslinux to boot Linux off a network server running tftpd
and dhcpd. The server is running RH 7.3 with syslinux version 2.06 and
pxe-0.1-31.99.7.3 installed from the rpm. I created a 2880 K floppy
image using syslinux and populated it with the Linux kernel images:
vmlinuz, and initrd.img (trimmed of some modules) from RH 9, also,
syslinux.cfg with kickstart information.

Floppy image larger than 2,88MB
I hope I've understand that all, somebody wants to create a floppy-image
larger than 2.88MB an use it with memdisk? I have modified a tool from Bart
Lagerweij (Big thanks!) and can create Floppy-Images with 5760kB and 8100kB,
and boot them with ISOLINUX and MEMDISK (or also with a modified
DISKEM1X.BIN), is this what you mean? These tools must run under windows, but
booting no problem.

I am still trying to get kick-start centos in my vmware5 because pxe
cannot find the pxe server. I do not control the dhcp or pxe server.
I have both my kickstart file and my iso image for centos6.5 on my
vmware datastore, but am trying to run my kickstart file from VMware guest.
Can I tell the command line to run from the datastore in VMWare? Or must

PXE Booting floppy image
Anyone know the correct syntax for specifying a floppy image in the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default file?
I am trying to use:
label Dos Bootdisk
MENU LABEL Dos bootdisk
FDIMAGE discimage.img
But when I select it the menu, I get a message saying "Automatic boot in 30 seconds" and nothing happens.
I would use:
label Dos Bootdisk 2
MENU LABEL Dos bootdisk 2
