How to set up help browser?
Does anyone have any words of wisdom for setting up the standard Windows help browser? I have an app with extensive on-line help, but the help browser only comes up with the one intro page. The various tabs are there, but they don't do anything.... --Yan

How to make Garmin see Garmin?
I have Garmin's topo map software for the USA, 2008 version, and also a very old MapSource MetroGuide (ca. 1998) installed under wine. All is well -- except the biggest thing. Neither program can detect the etrex vista nor the rino 120, using Garmin's cables. The topo couldn't before I added the road maps,so that's not the trouble. Both, on the other (<shudder>

C:\WINDOWS\system32 vs ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
I am a new user to Ubuntu and wine, and I need to copy some files from C:\WINDOWS\system32 to my ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. Ubuntu is my sole OS. So my question... where in the world do I find the C:\ folder if Ubuntu does not sort directories that way? Also, is there something more than a FAQ, maybe a for-dummies part of the site I can look at to answer questions like this? I've had a

Package XML: Parse Garmin *.tcx file problems
I'm struggling with package XML to parse a Garmin file (named *.tcx). I wonder if it's form is incomplete, but appreciably reluctant to paste even a shortened version. The output below shows I can get nodes, but an attempt at value of a single node comes up empty (even though there is data there. One question: Has anybody succeeded parsing Garmin .tcx (xml) files? Thanks! Michael

Serial port not working anymore on Garmin Mapsource
I have Garmin Mapsource v8 working 100% with Wine and Linux kernel 2.6.16. Transfer from/to the GPS connected to a USB Serial converter on /dev/ttyUSB0 works 100% also. But then, I try with kernel 2.6.18 and 2.6.19 and Mapsource doesn't find the GPS. It's not a Linux issue as I can access the GPS with minicom. Device file permisions are OK. Anyone has and idea of what can be happening

Garmin MapSource updater
I managed to install MapSource 6.12.4 from the CD using Wine 0.9.59 under Ubuntu 8.04. I could configure the unlock code, see maps, etc and connect to my Zumo 550 to download data OK. The problem is running the update package, MapSource 6.13.7. It executes until the opening screen ("Welcome to MapSource Web Update") and then just sits there. There are no buttons or input boxes anywhere

Recent version of Garmin Mapsource doesn't work
Garmin's Mapsource versions prior to 6.16.1 worked almost flawlessly. Now with version 6.16.1 which I upgraded, the main map window doesn't draw the map anymore, just a gray tile. You can still zoom in and zoom out, and even pass your mouse to see that its over some road, but you can't see the map. If you open a track, the trackline shows, but not the map. Also, it now requires at

Garmin Trip & Waypoint Manager installer won't run
Hi, I'm trying to install version 4.0 from the CD that came with my GPS unit. I'm able to run Setup.exe and get to the initial startup menu. The links to visit the Garmin website and exit the installation work fine but when I click the one to install the app I get the hourglass cursor for a fraction of a second, like it's starting to do something, but nothing happens. This is my first

Wine by default picks up from c:\windows\system32
HI, When we run wine <program.exe>, it looks like wine by default tries to pick up files from drive_c\windows\system32. What do we do if the executable files are installed in a different location?. Wine cannot load it and fails. Is there a PATH variable or something we can set for WINE, just like we set in a OS? Cheers

There were some popups too, that I didn't capture. According to the DB, the app is rated

system, system32 and dll overrides
Hi, Following on from my vfp app question hjere's the one about dll overrides: Even when starting the app from its own top level directory I'm getting warnings about not being able to load certain gdi32.dll, user32.dll and shell32.dll. Ignoring the warnings about gdi32.dll and user32.dll seems to have no ill effect so I assume the program is simply checking for their presence. I have
