Mapping UIDs on Linux to same UID as AD-bound Mac is mapping to
Hi all
I have a Linux machine bound to AD, and a Mac bound to AD. Both have me log
in with different UIDs for the same AD user. This makes sense, as AD doesn't
have a UNIX-compliant uid/gid attribute.
One thing I have found that interests me is this:

Samba and ActiveDirectory authentication
Hi all
I'm interesting in using Samba shares with Microsoft AD in following way:
I would like to set up my shares on Samba 3.6.3, authenticate Windows users
via ActiveDirectory and have users/groups access to those shares configured
in ActiveDirectory (not in smb.conf). Is that possible?
I did fair amount of research but I could not find enough information or
tutorial how to do it.
Do I need

Samba 4.2X as a member server in ActiveDirectory functional level 2016 domain
Can Samba 4.2.X work as a member server in a Windows server 2016
activedirectory domain? I am using Samba member servers in Windows
2012R2 domain and would like to know if I can upgrade the domain to
functional level server 2016 without breaking Samba.
Thank you in advance for any help,

ActiveDirectory authentication failures with pam_winbind on SuSE 11
Hi,
Facing issue with the authenticating users against Windows 2008

through pam_winbind fails with below error.

CTDB + Samba + Winbind + ActiveDirectory
I am attempting to configure a Samba cluster using DRBD and CTDB. I am
currently having some issues with winbind. Everytime I start winbind or
attempt to join my server to the domain the machine stalls and the ctdb
error log is filled with the following:

Cooperation with the samba and the Windows ActiveDirectory
Hi Takano,
You wrote:
※The direction of the trust Samba server → Windows server
Which should mean, according to some MS book sitting on my desk, that you
want Samba domain to trust MS domain.
In the Samba FAQ, here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/FAQ#Does_Samba_support_trust_relationship_with_AD.3F
you can read "Samba can be trusted, but can't trust yet."
According to that, if

Winbind eventually locks "forever" if one of ActiveDirectory refuses all connections
I see this was created as bug 7259 but I did not see anything in the mailing
list about this problem.
Does anyone else have a problem like this? Is there something in my
configuration that is incorrect?
We have two domain controllers, and if we reboot either one of them, winbind
hangs, and we cannot lookup any ids, and since logins are requiring group
lookups, it makes logging in as a local user

Authenticating against ActiveDirectory - can't read userPassword/unicodePwd?
Hello list,
So, the application I am working on right now needs to have LDAP
authentication build in, meaning that if the user enabled it, we will query
about his basic data (email, pwd) on a user-setup LDAP directory. It used to
work fine when I was testing with OpenLDAP. The code, essentially, is this:
connection.bind(self.bind_dn,self.password)

Logging Login Attempts
I have passwords turned off, and require keys to match. The zombie armies swarming outside are trying brute force attacks that in part involve guessing login NAMES. If they guess the wrong NAME, this is logged in syslog. If they guess a working user name, then the attack has PARTIALLY SUCCEEDED, but this information is IGNORED. That is, it is not logged. If the zombie army has tell when it
