Hello, what is the right way to disable XFree86 and wdm listening ports tcp 6000 and tcp 1024. I read in man XFree86 about the -nolisten tcp option and tried to set in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp but it was not successful. I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes. My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

I have been attempting to run GenoPro and GenoProbeta on Kubuntu linux. Both worked a few upgrades ago, now with upgrades to Kubuntu and Wine neither work. I'm a novice can someone offer advice and guidance on this? Thanks Norman

I did the 5.6 update yesterday. When I started the machine today, I did not get a login screen -- it was just a blank screen with no cursor or anything. I shut down, restarted and when grub came up selected the previous kernel. The system came up as usual, presented a login screen, and is working OK. There is apparently something buggy related to the new kernel (2.6.18-238.5.1.el5). Stan

Hi, So first daft question with Centos 6 (someone had to be first!) I've setup Centos 6 as a Server but as with Centos 5 it used to boot into the GUI but v6 doesn't do this, startx etc doesn't seem to work to launch the GUI Any suggestions on how I can get this to work? Thank you Keith

After the last update, last week, and reboot (and that was a *real* mess - some issue I'm not sure I've resolved yet, trying to boot off RAID 1), here's what's started happening: I run in runlevel 3, and have a startx in my .bash_profile. I'm trying to make my computer work with a Fedora 32 live DVD. Video issues make it either crap out or only give me 640x480. Grrrr. Centos 7 is running just fine. I think I could make it go by booting to runlevel 3 and running startx manually. For that to work, I think I need to pass startx the right configuration file.
