smbd daemon uses all filedescriptors
We are running samba on a number of HP systems running HP/UX 11.00.
We moved from samba version 2.0.7. to samba version 2.2.3a.
We have about 200-400 smbd's running on one host.
Samba version 2.2.3a was running without any problems for about two weeks.
But now on two different servers indepent of each other, the file table
was full.
We found out that ONE smbd used about 5000 !!

Samba and IEE1394
This might not be the correct group to post to, but maybe somone could
tell me wich groupd it should go to (as I haven't found any good
ones).
I have Windows XP machines with IEE1394 (FireWire) LAN. Windows has
built in support for OHCI compliant cards and can use them as a normal
NIC, but with 400Mbit.
This sollution is cheap and alot faster than normal a 100Mbit LAN. The

kstest vs shapirotest
Dear R-users
Idea:
Analysing tree height frequency with hist(), normal distribution (ks.test & shapiro.test) and skewness (package e1071 - thanks a lot for this useful package)as an indication of possible self-thinning in an experimental tree stand.
Problem:
Results from the ks.test and the shapiro.test are not comparable (see example of both tests). Tree height is a nice continuous

You can try installing Mono but that only works for a fraction (read <1%) of programs so at the moment you are better off finding an alternative program or waiting until .NET is implemented in Wine

[LLVMdev] CLR or C++/CLI interface to IR building API
Hi
Our front end is written in a CLR language, and we're currently
interacting with the middle/back-end by writing out .ll files. This
was convenient to get started with, but they're getting to a "huge and
unwieldy" stage now.
I was wondering if anyone's attempted writing proxy/wrapper C++/CLI
classes so that the IR API can be used directly from managed
languages. Any

New overhead and MPU features in HTB
I just wanted to inform that there is new patch
donated by Walter Karshat which implements packet overhead
and MPU computations to the rate table.
See diff for details on arguments. No tc binary available
yet at I have to compile it on system with older glibc
(not everyone use 2.3.2).

R compiler for .Net CLR
I am currently working on a project that involves using R and .Net. We're
having performance issues with R, and we're wondering if there is a way to
get around the R interpreter, particularly by compiling R directly for the
.Net CLR? We're wondering if there is any initiatives to build such a
compiler.
Thanks,
Leo

Re: Compiling the MFC using Winelib
Well, from my recent experience with Winelib, I can tell you this:
Winemaker currently sucks, and the makefiles it creates are
nonfunctional and you'll have to redo them by hand anyway.
Yeah. If I knew anything about how to fix it I just might be tempted to
do so :)
Thanks,

Question re: winelib/MFC/ATL
Question: I've been trying to compile the MFC, using the advice offered on
the winelib user's guide, but with little luck. Same with the ATL.
My app has been working under Linux using straight wine, but I've been
tasked to try and do a winelib build. Anyone have a good Makefile or
source setup for the MFC 4.2 and/or the ATL? I'm really stuck. :(
