OT: real 2 line phone vs. 1 line and call waiting
I'm looking into getting a new phone and wondering what the difference
in functionality is between a single line phone with call waiting and a
real 2 line phone (either a real SIP phone or an analog 2 line phone and
a 2 port ATA) is. Why would I want the real 2 lines vs. just being able
to take an incoming call via call-waiting?
Cheers,
b.

Game- Fishdom H20 video problem
My wife played this game -Fishdom H20- at her sister's and was caught up in it. It can be downloaded through Yahoo! Games.
We are trying to run it on 32 bit Ubuntu Karmic- newest wine version from Wine repo- on our laptop with Intel Centrino Duo, nvidia GE Force GO 7400 256 mb with newest driver from ppa.
The problem-- the game loads and plays with no problem, but its nature is to find

echo cancellation
Hi!
I want to use speex for echo cancellation in my program, but I have bad
results.
I will explain what my program does. it is a client-server application.
I run a server in room A and a client in room B. the client sends some
voice to the server and the server plays it on loudspeakers. I run another
server in room B and connects to it from room A using the same application
that runs

Really, really loud ringers
Anyone have some recommended equipment for alerting people to calls in a noisy environment?
I have Polycom IP550 phones set up in some really noisy environments - our mine hoists - and they tend to drown out the ringers. I'm using Clarity WR100s now. They're analog devices, attached to Linksys PAP2T ATAs as part of a call group to get a loud (advertised as 95dB) ring out there, but it

Multiple simultaneous calls
Hi Guys,
I am a novice of Asterisk and I need some experts help to understand what I
can get out of it.
I need to make multiple calls (let say 50) at once to autoanswering
softphones on a LAN and send all of them the same message that they will
repeat with loudspeakers in the same environment.
I am a little concerned about synchronization of the phones and moreover it
is not much clear to me if I

Can compressed music sound better than uncompressed?
I quote from "Principles of Digital Audio" by Ken C. Pohlmann:
"Because perceptual coders tailor the coded signal to the ear's acuity, they
similarly tailor the required response of the playback system itself. Live
music does not pass through amplifiers and loudspeakers, it goes directly to
the ear. But recorded music must pass through the playback signal chain. Much

About Sampling Rate Correction in acoustic echo
Thank you, Andreas Engel.
I downloaded the white paper of the Fraunhofer Acoustic Echo Control.

It said

ffmpeg2theora icecast ubuntu edgy
Hi,
I just wanna share with you my experience with theora ffmpeg2theora,
icecast2 and ubuntu edgy. I wanted to broadcast live video on an Ubuntu
machine with ffmpeg2theora, oggfwd and icecast2.
I read the thread
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/icecast/2005-February/008608.html about
the stream dying after a couple seconds with libshout 2.0.
Now the same happens if you use libshout3 v2.2 with

Killing the OpenSSH server doesn't cause the Windows OpenSSH client to die
I connect with the OpenSSH client on Windows to the OpenSSH server on
FreeBSD, all in one LAN, Wifi to Eithernet.
After a while, usually when the connection is inactive for some time, it
becomes dysfunctional: it becomes impossible to connect through reverse
port forwards from FreeBSD to Windows.
At such times killing the ssh server process on FreeBSD, corresponding
to the connection,

run pxelinux.0 on a booted system
I am trying to come up with a 'clever' way to pxe-boot boxes that don't have any
way to pxe boot. as in, old laptops that only have pc-mica nics.
"Etherboot does not (yet) offer support for PCMCIA cards."
http://www.etherboot.org/wiki/pcmcia_support
I am not trying to do 'that' - just trying to come up with a process to work
around it. Something like this:

Puppet on Ubuntu Edgy
Is anyone having problems with running Puppet 0.22.1 on Edgy? I
installed the puppet and facter packages from Fiesty and I get core
dumps when I try to run puppetd on the machine. Prior to that I was
using 0.20.1 packages from Debian testing and all seemed well.
I posted about the core dump yesterday. Luke recommended upgrading
Ruby so I grabbed ruby-1.8.5-p12 source and installed. The prior

Wine wants OpenGL for everything... then fails
Wine is hosed on my Ubuntu Edgy install. It was working fine on Dapper, and I'm not sure if I tested Wine since
upgrading to Edgy last month.
Anyway, no matter what I try to run I get something like this (running notepad in this example) and the program fails to
launch:
$ notepad
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/dit/.wine'...
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on

Ubuntu edgy and wine
I have installed ubuntu edgy with latest patches and wine 0.9.29. I use
a application called osfinancials, www.osfinancials.org, this installs,
but does not run. Strangly enough, it does run when using suse and
wine, so it seems to be related to the combination of ubuntu edgy and
wine.
When I run the exe, osfinancials.exe, I get the following errors:
sudo wine osFinancials.exe

Ubu edgy + latest CRAN R + Rmpi = no go
I'm just curious if anyone else has had problems with this
configuration. I added the CRAN repository to apt and installed 2.5.0
with apt-get. I then did an install.packages("Rmpi") on cluster nodes.
Rmpi loads and lamhosts() shows the nodes, but mpi.spawn.Rslaves()
fails (something to do with temp files?). Rmpi works fine with the
Edgy-native version of R (2.3.x) and installing
