R 2.0.0 (Windows): slow startup over the network
Hello, I installed R 2.0.0/Windows on our network server (Win NT 4.0) with all CRAN packages and observed a quick startup on this machine (3s). However, when startet from different client machines (e.g. Win NT 4.0 or Win XP Pro SP2, Athlon XP 1700, 100 Mbit Network) the R Gui Window appears immediately but then it takes 90 seconds to get the startup message and the command prompt. The R

Thunderbird very slow startup, 1.2.11, mbox, postfix local delivery to /var/mail
I've Google'd to exhaustion and can't seem to find an answer to my problem. I'm not sure if the problem is TBird 3 or my Dovecot setup. The basic problem is that when I launch TBird and it grabs messages upon startup, it takes forever to supposedly pull them down. Once it's got them they sort relatively quickly into the proper IMAP (dovecot) folders. I don't use sieve

wine startup always slow on Ubuntu 64-bit
Whenever I try running wine on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit - either a program or "Configure Wine" - it takes a minute or so for it to start! It happens on both my System 76 and my Acer laptops. On the other side, when I'm running a 32-bit Ubuntu on an old Lenovo, Wine startup works fine. Is there an optimized 64-bit configuration I am not aware of? Thanks, Eduardo

Remote Desktop slow startup in Windows 10 / 8
Hi, I'm having a slow startup (30") of Remote Desktop Client (mstsc) in windows 8 and windows 10. I've tried it in Windows 7 and it starts correctly (3-5"). Once connection is stablished it goes smoothly. I've tried connecting Remote Desktop with an IP and I've got same behaviour. When I'm starting Remote Desktop from Windows 10 or 8 I get next message in samba

Weird race condition in 4.2.1 startup
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I just installed xen 4.2.1 and linux 3.4.43 on one of my boxes and ran into a weird issue that looks like a race condition in the startup scripts. When I reboot, I see the startup messages from the xen-commons script about xenconsoled and the QEMU backend starting, Then immediately after that, I get a message saying the system is switching to run

rake test_units slow on startup
Hi Running ''rake test_units'' using the simple example from the intro video is very slow on my computer. While the tests claim to execute in 0.17 secs, the startup time ad 5.3 seconds to the overall job. On the video, these tasks ran in about 1 second. (Maybe David was doing the tests on a dual proc mac or did some video editing, who knows.) But, I don''t think it should

ssl-params: slow startup (patch for consideration)
Based on the recent found weaknesses in DH key exchange, http://weakdh.org/ I increased ssl_dh_parameters_length to 2048 bits, and found waited for 5+ minutes for dovecot to come back online after a restart. Unless you got a fast machine, the initialization of DH parameters can exceed your patience. Regeneration may not be a problem (if ssl_parameters_regenerate=0 or if Dovecot uses old

Re: Guest startup delay options ignored
just a followup with more information: The approach I have tried is to update /etc/sysconfig/libvirt-guests as follows: # URIs to check for running guests # example: URIS='default xen:/// vbox+tcp://host/system lxc:///' #URIS=default # action taken on host boot # - start all guests which were running on shutdown are started on boot # regardless on their autostart settings #

Asterisk 1.2.14 and Audiocodes Mediant 1000
I sent this yesterday, but saw zero traffic, so I think it got lost in the ether, so I'm sending again. I'm having an issue using Asterisk 1.2.14 and an Audiocodes Mediant 1000 ISDN gateway. For the most part, everything is working except for attended transfers. When I do an attended transfer, and complete the transfer before the 3rd party answers, the PSTN side hears dead air until the

RFC: making the xen startup integrate better with distros
What follows below is an outline of what we''re changing in Xen startup for Fedora 8. I know historically when getting into initscripts you tend to hit distro specific issues. So I''m posting this to see if there''s any interest from others in having these changes integrated upstream. I''d like to thing that with a few minor tweaks this is general enough to be

[LLVMdev] Slow jitter.

Agreed. The JIT with default options produces slightly slower code than a brain-dead alternative backend my compiler has. I

xend crash at startup
xend crashes at startup with following stack trace: ... File "/usr/lib64/python/xen/xend/XendPIF.py", line 68, in linux_get_phy_ifaces phy_ifaces.append((name, int(mtu), bridged_mac)) UnboundLocalError: local variable ''bridged_mac'' referenced before assignment The simple patch attached below prevent the crash, and allow xend to start normally. It seems the crash

Ruby startup slow on Windows Server 2003
Ruby script/console takes 30-secs to start on the Windows 2003 servers in our shop. Has anyone found a way to speed that up? ( I know Linux is much faster, but that''s not an option, in this case). -- Best Regards, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory alternative." --- E.Taft Benson -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Really slow startup due to fonts reading
Hi, My wine has begun starting really really slow. Using strace, it seems it is using about 15 seconds or so on reading X font files. It also seems like this happens after I run "fc-cache" to rebuild the X font cache in "/var/cache/fontconfig". I have a hard time finding detailed information about how wine reads fonts. I have seen some indication, that putting font files in

Fedora 14 & wine: slow startup & missing fonts
Hi, I'm a new user to wine. I running an Intel Core Duo with 6GB ram. I installed fedora 14 and am trying to install QuickBooks Pro 2011. The first issue is that it will take ~1 minute or more to start one of the Wine Windows applications (Wine Wordpad, Wine File, Notepad, etc..). After they start the performance is fine and all fonts are ok. When installing Quickbooks, the install dialog

wine-0.9.53: slow startup
Hello. I looked a bit closer at the dumps that appear now that wine starts wineboot at each run. The faulty app is winedevice.exe; I disabled it in libraires, and now I don't get any more exceptions on starting wine. What is this winedevice.exe? What is it purpose, and what functionalities am I losing by disabling it? Thanks. -- Fabrice DELENTE

Why is my rsync transfer slow?
Just chiming in here, I haven’t read all the previous posts so may be repeating… Mike Bombich has a good piece on benchmarks for various source/destination scenarios with rsync. https://bombich.com/kb/ccc3/how-long-should-clone-or-backup-take Note that copying to sparsebundle on local media is as fast as to local disk. Sparsebundle is a mac filesystem whereas NAS is not so certain file
