Printing with wine and cups doesn't work
Hi everybody, my problem is the following: I got a Debian sarge system with cups 1.2.1-3 and wine 0.9.15-1 as well as a HP PSC1510 Printer/Scanner. In the documentation about wine is written, that printing wouldn't be a problem as everything is autoconfigured if you are using cups like I do. But all I get when trying to print from any application, is an error-message in the log:

lpr / lpd in raw mode
Hi Printing in Samba is done this way: 1) Win 95 / 3.1 / NT uses the printer driver you selected there the same way, as if you would print directly to the parallel port, but insted if sending the data to the parallel port, it is send over the network to your samba server. 2) Samba recieves the data, and stores it in a file on your server. 3) Then, lpr ist called with the file the data was

Samba - cannot print multiple copies
Hi, I successfully setup printing on my FreeBSD box using Samba with apsfilter and lprng. However, I have encountered two issues: 1) Cannot print multiple copies of documents from my windows box (e.g. notepad). Only the first copy is printed and the rest don't get printed. 2) My spool directory is getting filled up and I would like the job removed after the print job is finished I've

Printing problem with CUPS and lp/lpr
I know that printing on Linux is somewhat of an art form, but I have a fairly simple problem. I used the following command to configure a networked printer (HP LaserJet 8150): lpadmin -p name -E -v socket://name -m laserjet.ppd -u allow:all - u deny:none This added and enabled the printer, and I can print to it using the print command from within a GUI application and PostScript

Wine with CUPS support
Hello, some time ago, I saw a version of wine that relies on CUPS for printing. At that time I was using apsfilter to print so I didn't fetch this version. Now I'd like to make a download but can't manage to find this version anymore. Any hints? Andi

LPR or LPRng or CUPS
I'm converting my NT 4.0 Print Servers to Samba Print Servers. Which printing system should I be using? LPR, LPRng or CUPS. I would love to have some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages or what the Samba Team recommends as a standard for working wih Samba. In case you need it, my system is SuSE 7 kernel 2.2.16 running under VM on s/390. Thanks, Josh Konkol, CNE MCSE Senior

Printing with lpr or lprng without two copy
Hello! We're using samba to manage our HP LaserJet 8000, which is a very fast and high capable printer. So we need the best performance, when we printing. The problem is when samba receive a file for printing it's copying the file to a tmp directory, and after that the lpr is copying this file out to its own spool directory. For example, where a 300M printing job is arriving from a

lpr printing using samba
Hello, I have samba set up on a solaris 8 box. I set up a printer using an lpr port. When I send a job from a client through the queue on the samba box to the printer, the job shows up on the printer queue with the job name changed to a generic name such as smb20***. Does any one know why this is happening. Is there a configuration file that needs to be edited to allow the job name to pass through

After enabling the LPD service on Windows and creating a LPR port to a particular printer when I execute the following command on CentOS server I do not come out. lpr -H winprint:515 -P printer1 file.txt The above command does not exit. Do I need to configure anything on the server to be able to use lpr as a client ?

Printing woes
Hi, I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected bits of /etc/smb.conf and

printing via samba w/ cups server
Hi, I have a bizarre printing problem, and i think i've narrowed it down to either samba, or the way windows packages the file to be printed. I've recently implemented a new server. Users print through the linux server from their windows desktop machines. OLD server: -samba 2.0.7, which uses lpd NEW server: -samba 2.2.3, which uses cups The old server can print to the printer (Savin

Clarifying CUPS Printing
We have been using CUPS to handle printing and have run into some "features" some of which a fresh install of the responsible server will probably fix. However there are some disparities between the documentation and our practical experience for which a clear statement would help others. The docs state when using CUPS the relevent lines of SMB.CONF should look like this: printing=cups
