Asterisk failover solution
If your phones are setup to connect to the asterisk box by name, then a smart DNS server can just point phones to the backup box after failure. However, since asterisk running on the backup box doesn't know about the phones, this is only half the solution ________________________________ From: Mohamed A. UK SIP Provider
Hi, I'm looking for a reliable provider to use mainly for outgoing calls in the UK, incoming isn't so much of a worry as I think I'm going to accept them over ISDN. Cheers! Steve -- Steve Foy steve@narnian.org

SER and Asterisk question
Dear All, I am trying to make the phones always talk to each other (peer to peer) using SER as a sip proxy, and incase the call is not answered we will use the voicemail of asterisk and other feautures, I have done that already, but in order to do so I found that I have to make the users dial different exten numbers, here is an example: user with exten 666 wants to call 999 . 666 dials 1999 and

SV: How do you like TrixBox?
I love TrixBox, with the custom config files you can tweak pretty much with TrixBox too, I have at least done some. Plan to do a plain Asterisk install later, but for now I learn a lot about the config files just with TrixBox. Some things might be a bit harder with TrixBox due to some of the premade dial plans, but can get it to work :-) _____ Fra: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com

Revieving some fax problems
Hi, We are recieving some faxes, but I would say that about 50% of them do not work. We don't know why... is it something with the faxes speed, volume, etc? Should we use a real fax machine? Using a TDM13B with a rxgain of about 5.0... Thank you for any help. -- Alexandre Leclerc

ATA with reliable FAX?
I am looking for an ATA that has had very reliable results when passing FAX over IP. I was thinking of testing the Cisco (not Linksys) ATA 186 I1, ATA 186 I2, ATA 188 I1. This is what I'm looking for: FAX -> PTSN -> through Asterisk -> ATA -> Fax Machine. I have QoS from PSTN entry to ATA on the network so I can assure precedence. What has everyone out there been using

ISDN passive card (HiSAX driver) / Fax reciever
Hello all. I have an ISDN passive card (HC HFC 2BDS0) using HiSAX driver (since this is a passive card, I can't use the CAPI driver... ). "All" I want is recieve faxes and store them on diferent folders depending the destination number. So far I was able to do a similar thing with voice (vbox), but what I really pretend is recieving faxes. My system is a SuSE 9.2 and has instaled

RE: spandsp 0.0.3 RxFax fax =?ISO-8859-1?Q?_reception crashes bristuffed_asterisk_1=2E2=2E13_[?= Virusgeprüft]
>I don't see why rxfax would be less reliable than iaxmodem/hylafax as >it's using the same spandsp to receive fax. I will defer to Lee Howard on this but IIRC the big factor is ECM which is not supported in SpanDSP. And another difference is that it is *HylaFAX* that is recieving the fax itself rather than SpanDSP. IAXModem just uses some of SpanDSP's libraries.

Asterisk - fax - spandsp
Dear all I have a Asterisk server (version 1.0.7) running with a TE110P card on a 3Ghz P4 machine (running nothing else but asterisk) So far so good. Today I was trying to receive faxes using spandsp fax client. I used spandsp v0.0.2pre18 (which compiled against libtiff 3.5.7) It compiled fine, installed fine, run fine. But when sending a fax (from a Brother fax machine) the image received

dictionary attack defense
Does dovecot have any dictionary attack defenses yet? In the past I have had to implement defense from outside dovecot, but since dovecot is at the front lines and therefore is the first to know I'm hoping by now there is something we can set. For example, a limit on access failures per minut/hour/day or some such. If not why not?

Problem with name resolution (I think)
Dear all, I believe I have a problem with name resolution and I wonder if anyone here might have a cure for it or can point me to the right direction? It is a fairly small network (about 30 client computers) but it seems to be only one client computer (XP service pack 2) that has the problem. This is what happens: The client brows the network and find the samba server and start browsing the

fax <-> misdn <-> zap <-> fax // fax <-> misdn <-> ATA <-> fax
Hello, I tried the above setups and am having large problems sending and receiving faxes, even in very low speeds (9600 and far below). Faxes are either shifted (i.e. missing lines) or corrupt at all, some faxes do break with communication errors (although CRC-alike algorithms are turned off) or in alot of cases only the upper quarter or 1/8 is transferred. Iam seeking for any idea on how to
