Parallel port access
I have a small Visual Basic app for a prom programmer which uses the
parallel port (lpt1) to control the programmer. It uses a third party
dll (io.dll) to give vb direct access to the hardware. I cannot get wine
to see that port at all. I have given myself rw mode to /dev/parport0,
there is a link (ln -s /dev/parport0 lpt1) in ~/me/.wine/dosdevices as
described in the user notes. The app is a

a tail of 2 users ?
The system is FC5 and wine is the latest .17. There are two users
configured on the system, A and B. They are configured to be as alike as
possible. Diff of set output shows only the expected differences. Wine
is built from CVS.
winecfg is configured to the same profile with only the appropriate user
path names changed.
The problem is wine works well for one of the users and not well at all

How to make Garmin see Garmin?
I have Garmin's topo map software for the USA, 2008 version, and
also a very old MapSource MetroGuide (ca. 1998) installed under wine. All
is well -- except the biggest thing. Neither program can detect the etrex
vista nor the rino 120, using Garmin's cables.
The topo couldn't before I added the road maps,so that's not the
trouble.
	Both, on the other (<shudder>

Drive Mapping Problem & solution
Just got Wine 1.1.13 on Ubuntu 8.10 tried to map D: to my Windows partition /dev/sda5 /media/DATA but Wine wouldn't keep my choice and reverts to /media/cdrom0.
Found out that permissions for ~/.wine/dosdevices/d: were root only and couldn't change them. So I deleted d: & d:: and made new symbolic links
$ sudo rm -r /home/me/.wine/dosdevices/d*
$ ln -s /media/DATA

Quicken 2005 Won't Connect to Internet
I was able to install Quicken 2005 and getting it started by installing
through wine (wine install.exe) then copying the entire Windows
directory over the wine directory.
After this the program will start up and looks normal except a bunch of
things don't work. One of these being able to connect to my bank
through the internet. Should there be a link in dosdevices to eth0? If
so what

Drive Designation
I keep reading on this list where drive C: is referred to as "~/.wine/drive_c"
but on my system (due to no special smarts on my part that would be
"~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" instead. Why this difference? Are the ones who post
basing their operation on an older way of doing things? The ability to use "c:"
rather than "drive_c" seems nicer IMNSHO. FWIW,

Error loading mfc42.dll - failed (error c000007b)
:D Hi,
I installed wine on ubuntu 10.10 to run a windows program as reported here (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22133&iTestingId=59338).
After few trails I decided to reinstall Wine (now version 1.3.8 ), to configure it as instructed by the guide, and than to install again the windows application, Birthday Reminder.
At present the application doesn't

Access to floppy disk drive from wine-installed programs
Can anybody please tell me how to access the floppy disk drive from
wine-installed programs? I've installed some basic accounting software
which backs-up to floppy (don't laugh!), but when I try to do this I get
the message "no removable drives..." even though I've mounted the floppy
drive. The CDROM (fake d:) drive is listed in dosdevices, but floppy

VDQ : Have I made a wine's nest?
Very Dumb Question here -- basically, am I in trouble? Or in other words,
I have to ask myself a Falstaffian question: "Which .wine, Bezonian?"
Let me expound.
On several lists for different parts of the problem, according to their
interest and my best judgment, I've been pursuing the topic of GPS/topo
map settings, under Crossover Office Pro 5.0.1 (CXO) using Fedora Core 4,

cant get wine to install
i couldnt figue out how to get wine to install normally after download, so i had to download the source and do it that way. I followed the directions in the read me that came with it, but all I can ever get to is the "make" direction. After it's done with that, it says to do "wine install" in the read me. When I type that in and try it, it says it is an invalid operation.

Softlinking to a dvd-drive with inconsistent mount points?
In Suse 9.2, it was easy to softlink to a drive from
/home/username/.wine/dosdevices because the mount
point for the drive was always the same. That is,
/media/dvdrecorder was always where the disc would get
mounted.
NOW, with Suse 9.3, the mount point is
/media/DISC_NAME. Since each disk has a different
name, there is never a consistent mount point. So, I
can't make Wine's

[PATCH] inspect: get windows drive letters for GPT disks.
This patch updates the guestfs_inspect_get_drive_mappings API call to
also return drive letters for GPT paritions. Previously this worked
only for MBR partitions. This is achieved by matching the GPT partition
GUID with the info stored in the blob from
HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\DosDevices keys. For GPT partions this blob
contains a "DMIO:ID:" prefix followed by a 16 byte binary GUID.

"static" drive mapping
Hello,
I am running the version of Wine that came with Ubuntu 9.04. I would like to have a permanent, or static, drive mapping to a second internal hard drive (/media/disk). I go into the GUI of Wine Configuration to create the mapping, but it is not static. I download larger files to that drive as to not clutter my main hard drive. Ubuntu always mounts the drive upon boot, but no matter what

Wine drive configuration file
Hi all!
I've tried for three hours to find where winecfg keeps the path of the
fake drives; oppositely to what the documentation says, is not in the
registry. Can please someone help me? (i need to create a fake drive
just for an application and then remove it; i could do it with a bash
script if i find the config file for that...)
Cheers,
