SER/OpenSER, I Finally Get It.............General Observation
Sorry if this hit the list twice, sent out yesterday, but didn't see it show up. Hi All, Can Asterisk be used as a SIP proxy, blah, blah, blah??? I've glanced over questions like this through the years, with a good idea on what a SIP proxy is and what Asterisk is and IS NOT. I never really took the time to lab-up SER and test drive it to see what advantages might be gained from using

SER, OpenSER, Kamailio, OpenSIPS -- what are you using?
One of the above is frequently used to front-end Asterisk. I used OpenSER to front-end a farm of Asterisk servers and was very happy with it. The ability to take a box out of service or to route a specific DNIS to a box for testing rocks. Since OpenSER has died (I don't care about the politics/personalities/trademarks), Kamailio and OpenSIPS have risen from the ashes. What are you using?

UK DID providers
Hi Can anyone provide me with a Manchester (0161) UK DID number, preferably IAX2 but SIP is ok too, that I can use for my incoming calls? Call volume will be low. The critical thing is that DTMF must be correctly passed 100% of the time, unlike Sipgate, my current (free) provider, whose DTMF detection/passing is not at all reliable, making it useless for a virtual receptionist scenario. Sticky Problem SER/Asterisk
Trying to find a solution to a sticky problem here. We have 3 OpenSER systems. Phones register with the OpenSER systems, and after they authenticate the user, pass the registration info using OpenSER's send() command to all Asterisk boxes sitting behind them. Each asterisk system then knows about every phone. For this to work, I had to turn off authentication in Asterisk for both

Extension Exists
Hi, When a VOIP user dials an external number, the calls are routed through our SIP provider. Is there a simple way to check whether the DDI exists locally before dialling out to the sip provider? Something like GotoIfExists(5551234 at incoming_calls) Currently, I'm paying for all calls, regardless of whether they exist locally. All DDIs exist in the incoming_calls context. Thanks Dan

SER/Asterisk interworking mailing list.
Greetings, As a developer and consultant who spends considerable time on projects involving the fusion of Asterisk and products derived from the SER ecosystem (OpenSER, Kamailio, OpenSIPS, the new SIP-Router), I have found that there is a great volume of interest in this topic on the mailing lists associated with all communities involved, but a comparative lack of focus that results in

Registration problem: UA -> SER -> Asterisk
Hi, we a have a SER (OpenSER) in front of 2 real-time Asterisk. SER simply forward SIP messages to 1 of the Asterisks: UA --> SER --> Asterisk We have a problem with REGISTERs: Asterisk answers with 200 OK, but changes the Contact header, inserting the IP of SER instead of the original IP (the IP of the UA). It seems that performs a sort of NAT-traversal, but all the elements are on

Direct Dial In - second try
Hi all, I have an asterisk-server (cvs-head from august) connected to a carrier's switch (DMS/Euroisdn) via a te410p, and I am having problems with DDI (standard 'official pstn' number plus extra digits for 'internal' use) Basically, when the entire number (including the extra digits) is dialled via a redial or a programmed key, I see the entire called party number (including

OPENSER / SER and Asterisk
While reading about how to maximize capabilities in asterisk i have read about SER and OpenSER. The sites do not explain to newbies (maybe that's on purpose) what are the benefits of using those products tied with asterisk (or is SER an asterisk replacement??) Can someone give me an idea of what's the usage for open(ser) and asterisk? is it for scalability? should I run it in the same

MWI, Realtime SIP, Voicemail and Extensions, UAs registered with SER

If the SIP peer is defined in sip.conf with a host=ser.domain.com then the notfy is sent to SER. 2. If realtimecache=yes is set in

Advice on BT ISDN Services (UK)
Hi all, I've been playing about with Asterisk for years now on and off, just SIP to SIP calls, using FWD and suchlike. I'm moving house at the beginning of September and have decided to build an Asterisk based system for my home office. I'm in the UK and wonder if anyone can give me advice on lines and hardware to use. Had planned to go with an ISDN2e line coupled with a BT

OT: BRI ISDN question
I am going to try and use a passive AVM fritz BRI card for my * setup.. Here is the thing.. I need to order my BRI from BT.. The service that looks to be the one to use is what they call ISDN 2e becasue this has the option to setup hunt groups across multiple ISDN2e lines so I could add another line later to get 4 channels.. According to the BT website in order to use the hunt grouping across

Fwd: SER as a Session Border Controller
I am curious if it is advisable to use implement Asterisk as a Session Border Controller for a VoIP reseller environment. Users will terminate calls SIP to my server, which will authenticate them via RADIUS, perform a LCR lookup, select an appropriate trunk (based on LCR), and terminate the call (update RADIUS accounting at end of call). All while acting as a B2BUA to prevent the users from seeing

SER Still recommended for large installs?
I'm reading some information that recommends using SER / OpenSER for large installation to offload SIP traffic from the Asterisk server. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+at+large However, it looks like the information might be dated. I'm looking at a potential 750 SIP phone and 150 Analog installation, all internal network, PRI trunks, and am trying to nail down an

OT: Polycom Registration Weirdness
This is a SER/Polycom question, but I hoped we may have some SER guru's here... I have a series of Polycom phones that are tying to register with OpenSER. The phone sends a REGISTER message, and OpenSER replies with Unauthorised (all normal). The phone re-sends the REGISTER with the credentials, and OpenSER sends Ok. Here's where it goes downhill. The polycom's appearance display

Simple CDRs w/Asterisk/OpenSER.
Suggestions on how to use Asterisk to collect CDRs from a OpenSER-based proxy / call routing setup? I need to get simple CDRs; not for detailed settlement/rating, but just for reconciliation with an ultimate TDM carrier just to make sure we only get billed for what we're actually using. I'd use the often-heralded approach of dumping a call from OpenSER into Asterisk and having it
