Trouble (?) reformatting flash drive to include former U3 partition
Semi-OT? I just got a new SanDisk 8GB flash drive, and, as usual, it came with the U3 software (for Windoze) on a "CD" partition and considerably less than 8GB on the disk partition. I put it into my WinXP portable and told U3 to delete itself, but I still can't get at the old U3 part of the drive. I've tried WinXP's format command, disk management and CentOS's fdisk,

question about WINEPREFIX
I wanted to ask to the wine experts something about WINEPREFIX or the crossover bottles... how does the concept of "bottles" compares/differs with the concept of application virtualization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_Virtualization) used by VMware's Thinstall (http://www.thinstall.com/products/virtualization_suite.php) (aside for the .exe container*) and

SanDisk Flash Drive error
Hi all- I'm trying to use a SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive (usb, 512MB). It has CruzerLock version 2.0 Security software in it. When I plug it in, it is recognized OK. When I open the drive, I have a file to open: CruzerLock2.exe. It has the Wine icon. But when I click on it, I get: CLZ1020: cannot locate the application in it's required location:

Configuring behaviour of flash hook
Hi all, I have some problems configuring the right behaviour of Zaptel devices in asterisk. Especially with three way call, call waiting and call transfers. Having one party on hold and the other on line I would like to have - Flash Hook + 3 to activate three way call - Flash Hook + 2 to swap between user on hold and user on line. On call waiting I would like to have: - Flash Hook + 2 to

Install on a usb flash drive
I all, I was thinking about installing centos on a usb flash drive. Perhaps a 4GIG. I dont need X or anything on this drive so installing should fit just fine. Are there boot issues with these flash drives? I'll be using a newer motherboard so the motherboard should be able to boot USB. Does this work? Have others done anything with flash drives? I am wanting this flash drive to be the

Centos on a Flash drive and Micro drive
I am considering putting together a 'micro server' that I can easily travel with. I am seriously considering the decTOP, as at $99 (plus the cost of a 256MB SIMM) is amazingly priced. But I want to run on batteries, so trash a real hard drive. I have a couple of IDE to Compact flash adapters that support 2 flash cards. So I was considering a 4Gb (or even 2Gb) cheap real fash card

Can't umount flash drive because an application has it locked
This occasionally happens to me when I've been editing an OOo document that resides on a flash drive I use with one of my laptops. I've tried poking around in ps to find out which process has the drive locked, and I can't figure it out. Nothing directly refers to the flash drive except one of the hald processes, and it's just scanning the drive (I tried killing that and it made

Re: ext3 / ext4 on USB flash drive?
>From the little I have heard about control systems for cars, which was some years ago, they were blockhead proprietary. The analogy would only work if computing was customarily blackbox technology, which it isn't. I'd be surprised if there were any branded flash drives that contained less than their advertised amount of storage. That leaves the question of what is going on under the

Installing on USB Flash Drive
Is it possible to install CentOS on a USB Flash Drive. Have boot sector, / and /boot on USB drive then put /home, etc on a software raid array of the physical drives. Thought there used to be motherboards with SDHC slots that you could use to boot off.

Creating a USB Flash Installation Drive
With the decreasing price of USB Flash Memory Drives, I was wondering how I would go about creating a USB Flash Drive that could be used the same as CD 1 to install CentOS on my servers. Has anyone done this, and if so, can you tell me the procedure to make this work? Thanks!

Problem copying files to flash drive
I had an interesting experience this weekend backing up some flash drives to another flash drive on my CentOS 5.2 home desktop. My son had two 256MB flash drives and one 1GB flash drive that he wanted backed up onto his newer 2GB flash drive. I used rsync to copy the two smaller ones to the big one without any trouble, but when I tried to backup the 1GB files to the 2GB drive, I started getting

Flash Drive problem?
I've been having an odd problem lately. When I drag files from the computer to a flash drive, they appear to copy, but when I try to use the files I find that only the name was copied (file size of 0). When I copy the same files to the same flash drive, from the terminal, everything seems to work. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? It's starting to get a little frustrating.

Installing from USB flash drive
I successfully created an install media on a USB flash drive, but now I have a minor problem installing from it. Whenever I run the installer, it insists on installing grub on /dev/sdb (the flash drive) rather than /dev/sda (the hard drive where I'm installing everything). Is there a way to convince the installer to put grub in the right place? Should I just tell it not to install grub and

Can't figure out how to put wineprefixes on an NTFS drive
Hi, I'm still a bit new to Linux and Wine, so please bear with me if this is a stupid question. I've been putting all my windows applications in their own wineprefixes, and now I thought I'd put some of them in my data partition, because there's always lots of free space there and many of my games take a lot of space. But when I try to create a new wineprefix on my data

Installing Cent OS from a usb flash drive
I recently acquired a Fujitsu Lifebook 1610. Unfortunately, the machine was missing a lot of the stuff that would've come with it brand new, mainly the usb cdrom drive. Currently, I'm running Fedora on it, and I installed it using a usb flash drive with the help of a program called unetbootin(Probably not spelled right). to load the ISO onto the USB drive. I've successfully used
