reviving LLVM on Solaris x86/SPARC platform
Greetings all, as some of you surely know, current state of LLVM on Solaris platform is far from being ideal. Recently here at Oracle we have started putting effort into actually making LLVM/Clang on Solaris (both x86 and SPARC) a good citizen. We have both intent and (finally) legal permissions to contribute into the trunk, and we have already developed a set of - now small and hopefully clean

Open Solaris on Sparc Virtual Server Options
Hello Everyone, My question is simply what are my best options for successfully installing virtual tools on an Open Solaris OS running on Sparc Architecture. My hardware is a Sun Blade 2500. From what I have read Virtualbox and Xen do not work on Sparc technologies. What options do I have? Thank you in advance for any advice, Dan -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

R on solaris 10 on a 64-bit ultra60 sparc
Hi since I have no experience with solaris and sparc-architecture. We installed the latest Solaris 10 on a 64-bit ultra60 sparc machine. Since the solaris 10 is said to run native linux-applications: can I just download any r-binaries for linux? if yes, for which distribution? or are there any solaris 10 binaries? or do I need to compile R myself on the sparc? sorry for this

ogg-vorbis on sparc-solaris-2.8
I have done fresh builds of xmms-1.2.5, libogg-1.0rc2, and libvorbis-1.0rc2 on a sparc-solaris-2.8 platform, using gcc-2.95.3. I had to use the GNU binutils to get the libvorbis libraries to link correctly. Everything built clean and without protest. When I install it all and try an ogg-vorbis file, I get noise. I'm wondering if this is a big-endian problem somewhere. I'd appreciate

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc-4.2 RELEASE_26 bootstrap failure on Solaris/SPARC - unhandled REAL_TYPE during compilation of '__powitf2'
Hello, Juergen > Ty->dump() prints "{double, double}" in the failing case (just before my > introduced assert). The answer is simple. The code in question contains extended IEEE FP argument / return type (aka 'long double'). By default it's lowered into struct {double, double} as you already saw and sparc currently does not provide any argument layout hooks. There

[LLVMdev] Solaris SPARC llvm-gcc front-end
Hello. How are the things going with the llvm-gcc for SPARC and Solaris OS? I have discovered recently the fact, that the code is still in the "patches welcome" stage and is far even from being successfully built on SPARC. I would like to know, if anyone maintaining this code, what is the current to-do list, etc. I would like to offer my help for gcc front-end on SPARC project. --

version 2.2.6 breaks compiling on Solaris 10 sparc
Hello, I maintain the dovecot package at opencsw.org. The latest release of dovecot verison 2.2.6 has some changes to lib-http which is breaking compiling on Solaris 10 sparc (though x86 builds successfully). Here is part of the compiler output while building: libtool: compile: /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../.. -I../../src/lib -I../../src/lib-test

Building NUT 2.2.1 under Solaris 10 (SPARC)
I'm trying to build NUT 2.2.1 on a SunBlade 2000 running Solaris 10 (Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC) It won't compile. I'm not a programmer, so I'm afraid I don't know why... CRAN check for package on Sparc Solaris
Dear All, The metafor package currently fails CRAN checks on Sparc Solaris: http://cran.r-project.org/web/checks/check_results_metafor.html The problem is probably due to an unintended (= stupid) use of identical() in a couple tests. I have changed that to more appropriate tests using all.equal(). However, before I resubmit the package to CRAN, I would really like to make sure that the updated

smbpasswd truncates password to 8 chars on Solaris sparc?
Good Day. In June, I posted a small query under the Subject of _odd smbpasswd / smbclient error from Linux to Solaris_ Briefly, a Solaris sparc server running 3.0.25a would not accept passwords from the Linux smbclient program if the password was 9 characters or greater. Instead, one would get this: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE but it worked fine with the Solaris sparc

G729 on Solaris SPARC/x86/x64 Codec
Hi All, Does anyone know what the current status is of the G729 codec on Solaris? According to the following link: http://www.asteriskvoipnews.com/asterisk_releases/_digium_g729_codec_now_available_forsolarissparc.html there is a version available for SPARC processor's. However, I have just had a quick look around Digium's FTP server and cannot seem to find these codecs (supported or

[LLVMdev] Documentation is missing hardware platform FreeBSD on amd64 and states that Solaris/Sparc is 'working'
Here http://llvm.org/docs/GettingStarted.html#requirements FreeBSD/amd64 isn't mentioned. It works quite fine for me. Also, it mentions that its known to work on Solaris/V9(Ultrasparc). Isn't this wrong since JIT isn't currently working on Sparc and is only expected to work with MC project completion? Sparc should me mentioned in the 'partial support' table. Also, I think

[LLVMdev] Solaris (sparc) llc bugs
Hello. I have been trying to check, how llvm works on Solaris recently. First I have tested lli, whitch seems to execute the bytecode generated on Linux without any problems. However, llc has failed to generate valid SPARC assembler code even on the helloworld example. Here is the generated code: sakharov at trillian:~$ cat ./test.s .text .align 16 .globl main

ZFS Boot for Solaris SPARC
Hi, Searching this alias I can find a number of guides and scripts that describe the configuration of Solaris to boot from a ZFS rootpool. However, these guides appear to be Solaris 10 x86 specific. Is the creation of a ZFS boot disk available for Solaris SPARC ? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can obtain details of this new feature from. Thanks and Regards, Paul. PS:

[LLVMdev] llvm-gcc-4.2 RELEASE_26 bootstrap failure on Solaris/SPARC - unhandled REAL_TYPE during compilation of '__powitf2'
Anton, I went with the first alternative with some success. However, now I get some errors during the build of libgcc with 'multiply defined symbols'. One thing I noticed is the following fact: Definition in unwind-pe.h: static const unsigned char * read_sleb128 (const unsigned char *p, _Unwind_Sword *val) --- GCC 4.2.4 bootstrapped on Solaris/SPARC -bash-3.00$ nm unwind-dw2.o | grep
