Netvibes.com / Scriptaculous
Hi list,
Is it possible to create a "dashboard" type application, like
Netvibes.com, w/ script.aculo.us?

netvibes tab about rspec
Hi,
As I am not a big fan of mailing list, I have created a Yahoo!Pipes to
generate a RSS from the user & developpers mailing list and integrated it
into a netvibes tab. I have also put a few blogs from the rspec authors.
More information and screenshots (worth 1000 words!) in

Cheers,
Jean-Michel

ActiveRecord::Base#update_all expected behaviour
Hi
I noticed that if in my code I use the following:
Photo.update_all("title = ''Ruby rocks'' ", "id IN (#{@photo_ids})")
All my objects are properly updated but none of the filters/callbacks
are triggered. Is that what''s expected?
I have a before_update filter set on the Photo class and it gets
totally ignored, I guess the only way to solve this

fcgi?
Hi,
I''ve been looking for a light weight alternative to rails for a few
small projects, and just came across merb, which looks perfect. The
only issue is that merb seems to be tied to mongrel, and I have to
deploy to our internal infrastructure which uses FastCGI.
How difficult would it be for me to modify merb to support a fcgi
interface (actually a rack interface - rack is

How to make Draggable Widgets with Placeholders
Hello. I''m trying to do some drag-droppable widgets like
Netvibes.com ...
I''m completely looking for a code like Netvibes. How can I do that
with Prototype or Script.aculo.us?
I want to make them droppable on placeholders like netvibes.
Any ideas or links? Thanks.

ActiveRecord::Base.connection.create_database defaults to latin1
If you use ActiveRecord::Base.connection.create_database you''ll notice
that by default the created db will use latin1 encoding. I created a
plugin to handle different charset and collations (on top of helping
you with other boring DB tasks).
You can check out the early version of the plugin
svn checkout svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/raketasks/db_tasks

Rails 1.2.0 RC2 has 4125 duplicate lines
I have been evaluating the excellent and super fast Similarity Analyser
by Red Hill Consulting to generate a dupplicated lines reports from
Rails 1.2.0 RC2 source code (excluding the tests).
On the 10th of January 2007, Rails 1.2.0 RC2 has 4125 duplicate lines

* actionmailer has 584 duplicate lines in 107 blocks in 20 files

time_zone_select helper enhancement
As we all know it, Time Zones are a pain in the neck. Rails make
things easier by providing some nice helpers. However, I recently
faced a challenge when trying to pre select a time zone for a user.
Using the time_zone_select helper, there''s simply no way you can pre
select a timezone for a user unless you already saved the time zone in
his/her record. Creating a new user or editing a

Solution for undefined method `use_transactional_fixtures=' ... problem
If you see this error message:
undefined method `use_transactional_fixtures='' for
Test::Unit::TestCase:Class (NoMethodError)
You should check all your dependencies, all the lines containing
require and especially require_dependency.
You have probably done a refactoring "Rename" a class and forgot to
propagate the change everywhere!

in netvibes). Somebody would have a track(runway). A library to be

Merb test harness
Ezra,
* test harness in new generated merb apps with helpers for testing
merb without starting a server.
* pin down plugin arch
Seems to me that these two tasks go together unless you want to have
rspec built in Merb.
Regarding the test harness, my understanding is that:
- a developer should be able to easily write specs against a merb application.
- a developer should not need to start a merb

Re: Strange behaviour with sortable
Hi,
I''m having strange problem with Sortable.
I''m trying to do something like google homepage, netvibes and others with 3
sortable lists, just to prouve someone it''s really easy with scriptaculous.
But maybe it''s not so easy :)
I''ve attached what I did, the code looks good to me but when I drag the
upper left widget to another column, the widget under

ZenTest autotest now handles RSpec, yay!
Josh Knowles http://joshknowles.com/ just let me know that ZenTest Autotest
3.50 now handles your RSpec specs.
http://blog.zenspider.com/archives/2007/04/zentest_version_350_has_been_released.html
That''s a great news.
Josh also shared with me a quick hack to make autotest work with only the
RSpec plugin installed.

failing rake task
I''m running rspec and rspec on rails in svn external so I am running
the latest version of the trunk. Recently the rake spec task started
braking the continuous integration server because the rake aborted. I
checked my local and it ran with the same behavior.. and all of the
devs on my team are now experiencing the same problem. All the spec''s
are passing, but the rake task is

different legends in lattice panels
Hi listers,
I want to make lattice plots xyplots with the indication of legends
inside each panel with only the points and the lines actually ploted
inside each given panel according to the group(ing) factor.
The code below shows what I have achieved so far and I hope will make
clear what I want to have.
It seems to me that my solution is a very "dirty hack" and there

Sharing: dont_repeat_yourself plugin custom RSpec matcher
I wrote a Rails plugin which uses simian to look for duplicates lines in your
code and reports in html format, Textmate or Netbeans.
I wrote it using RSpec and I have included a RSpec custom matcher:
it { rails_application.
with_threshold_of_duplicate_lines(4).
should be_DRY }
If you use Autotest, your specs will fail the next time you do a nasty
copy-paste !!!

sortables w/ hoverclass
Good hello.
I'm confused by the 'hoverclass' option that can be passed to Sortable.create
It works with Droppables.add but (for me) it doesn't seem to do
anything when used with Sortables. (afaik Sortable.create just calls
Droppables.add and passes the hoverclass option through- or at least
it's supposed to)
Not sure if it's broken in the current svn script.aculo.us but

iframe is reloading during each sortable drag/drop point
We are creating a simple widget portal for our site and trying to use
Sortables. Each of our widgets is an iframe. But when you try to
drag an element containing an iframe the Sortables api causes the
iframe to reload at each possible drop point. This causes the ui to
shutter and become unusable.
I have narrowed the issue down the onEmptyHover where
dropon.insertBefore is called. Is there a

problems with ''no Accept header'' request
I''m trying to setup a Merb cluster + attachment_fu to handle uploads for a
client''s Rails app.
I''m using Flash to upload the files and I realized that Merb was giving me
an error for each upload. It turns out that Flash doesn''t seem to send an
Accept header and Merb''s responder crashes because it''s trying to split the
missing Accept header.
