big size file uploading problem w/IE
Hi,
I''m now trying to develop application for big files exchanges by
Webserver and Browser with rails.
There is a browser dependent file uploading problem with Rails.
Uploading file is issued from .rhtml like this.
<%= form_tag({:action => "upload_file"}, {:multipart => "true"}) %>
With IE ( 6.02900 ) a 5 meg file was sent but slowly and it took more

Error in substring: invalid multibyte string
Thanks for the quick response Ivan. readLines with encoding='latin1' works
for me (on Ubuntu).
However I was more concerned with the inconsistency in results between
substr and regexpr. I was expecting that if one of them errors because of
an unknown encoding then the other should as well. Even better, if regexpr
works, why shouldn't substr work as well?

Error in substring: invalid multibyte string
Hi all,
I'm getting the following error from substring:

Error in substr("<I>Jens Oehlschl\xe4gel-Akiyoshi", 1, 100) :
invalid multibyte string at '<e4>gel-A<6b>iyoshi'
Is that normal / intended? I've tried setting the Encoding/locale to
Latin-1/UTF-8 but that does not help. nchar

The xen-backend.rules file is stored in /dev/udev, but it is not

I made the symlink into /dev/udev/rules.d/ so it works.

Supporting charsets
Hi there!
We are trying to use support for japanese language, but when composing in
squirrelmail or while resending either in squirrel or in Outlook, we do
not get the right symbols.
The server and client PCs have all the required software. Indeed, we
receive japanese written messages and can display them well. The problem
arises when we resend or compose a message. In the squirrel configuration,

Unicode conversions from JA encodings
Background link for those unfamiliar:

W3's suggestions for within XML: http://www.w3.org/TR/japanese-xml/
The nice thing about this document is it gives data for a bunch of
different translation tables, and enumerates their differences. (This
is only about Japanese encodings. I believe similar problems may exist for

javascript ''point to file'' widget (as seen in dreamweaver)
hi all. I''m planning a rails app and am wondering if anyone knows if
there''s a javascript widget with the same functionality as dreamweavers
''point to file'' tool
for those who have not seen this it is basically a small, four pointing
arrow which you can click and hold on, and then drag and hold to a file
or directory to select that file as a link

Anybody got a character counting widget?
Just demo''d my app for marketing and they asked whether, on the big text
fields, I could give a dynamic character counter so that as they
approach the guideline maximum they''ll know. Seems like something that
could be written by looking for key click events in the text field.
Before I go writing one, though, I thought I''d check and see if anybody
knows of such a

custom content widget design
Hello all,
I am trying to design a reusable widget content system, where I can easily lay
out a bundle of widgets on a page and allow a user with proper administrative
rights to click and change them.
For the database storage, I don''t want to have to create a new table for every
different classification of widget (ie, list, text body, image, etc). I
would like to create a central

widget hierarchy - program variables
Hi!
During developing my little program, I''ve noticed, that the objects have
a hierarchy, but now I don''t know what to do, if a widget initiates an
event which has an effect to the parent, grandfather/brother/other
relatives.
Is there a tutorial for this aspect?

tcltk command to figure out which widget in active or in focus
Hi,
I'm making an interface, where a Tcl/Tk window have few listbox widgets.
I need to select separate parameters from separate listboxes.
It is clear how to get cursor selection value, once you know which listbox widget you clicked.
The problem is I can't figure out which one tcltk command to use to get an information which listbox widget I clicked.
Thank you,
Vlad
