navigation problems
I am trying to move from MS Windows (of which I am a std user) to Linux and, 10 days ago, I installed Mandrake 9.0, everything is OK except for WEB navigation: even if surely connected, I cannot navigate and the browser answer is always:...host unknown..
Apparently the problem is the firewall (Shorewall) installed by default that rejects all comunication, infact looking in the Firewall settings

IBM invests $ 10^9 in Linux, maybe they'll sponsor Vorbis?
Hello Vorbis developers,
you probably had the same idea already, but maybe IBM
is interested in sponsoring Vorbis, or being your patron.
If they are going to invest $ 10^9 in Linux, protecting
vorbis from harm, and possible injecting resources into
that project would be peanuts to them.
I don't know if IBM does anything with multimedia, but
they could only gain if strong technology in that

rsync 2.6.9 on OS X. files with xattrs don't retain mtime.
I'm really excited about the recent work on extended attributes. I've
compiled 2.6.9 with xattr support, and run a few tests. It seems that
if I have a file with an extended attribute ( a resource fork in this
case), and I run rsync -aX , the mtime is not preserved. Example:
stat xattrsrc/a

voip-info.org status update
A short status update:
Yesterday 3 of the 4 disk drives in the RAID array on the server that hosts voip-info.org failed.
The coloprovider is currently working to replace the drives and I'm hoping that the site returns to service soon.
Tomorrow is looking most likely.
I'd like to thank all those that have called or emailed to offer help and/or encouragement.

Just a question on how things are going
Hi Jean-Marc,
I was just wondering if maybe you would consider a "blog-like" text file
in the codebase where you just jot down your thoughts about why you are
making a change, and where you think you are headed. For example, I
noticed today that you completely removed the pitch prediction code. It
would be nice to know if you did that because you're moving away from
using it as

An R BOF meeting at the JSM?
The BOF in the subject line is a "Birds Of a Feather" meeting. This
is a chance for people who normally only get the chance to communicate
via e-mail to actually sit down and talk to each other in person.
I plan to be at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Dallas in August.
If you will be attending and would be interested in getting together
with some other R folks, please e-mail me and
