MusicOnHold spawns everlasting mpg123 processes
Hullo :) I'm using CVS-04/23/04-23 from the stable 1.0 branch on kernel 2.6 - since I have no Digium h/w, I've just managed to get the zaprtc module to compile and run, so I thought the best way to test it would be via MoH. The MP3Player application works great .. exten => 6901,1,Answer exten => 6901,2,MP3Player(http://127.0.0.1:85/ES/28) This will play callers BBC Radio 4 from

mpg123 versions ?
We find that mpg123 0.59r works best. mpg123 0.59s-mh4 = the devil. MusicOnHold "zombie" mpg123 processes
Hi, KMail crashed because I saved too many asterisk-users messages ... now I have to ask directly, instead of searching in my private archive :) Here's the problem: I'm using MusicOnHold, running mpg123, but I notice that the processes don't die even after the user hangs up. They just sort of "freeze" and stop consuming cpu (I hope). Is there a way (within asterisk)

problem w/ musiconhold & mpg123
I'm trying to get musiconhold to work w/ my Asterisk system, and I'm not having much success yet. First, I noticed that nothing happened even after I had enabled all of the options in zapata.conf & setup a sample extension in extensions.conf. Then I read something about how Asterisk uses mpg123 to play the files. I discovered that this had not been installed on my system, so I

Music on hold quality..

I have tried various MP3's sampled at 160k, 128k, 32k and 8k and they all sounded terrible... The PC is a P4 so its got plenty of processing power.. Compiling mpg123 under 1.2.9.1 / Ubuntu 6.06
Hi, I made the mistake of upgrading both my Linux box (to Ubuntu 6.06) and Asterisk (to 1.2.9.1) at the same time. Now, when trying to compile mpg123 - using the tried and true "make mpg123" -, the build fails with an error make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/asterisk-1.2.9.1/mpg123-0.59r' make[3]: *** No rule to make target `\ ', needed by `mpg123'. mpg123 hangs on close, but plays fine.
I am running Asterisk CVS-04/16/03-18:57:13, and mpg123-0.59r It all sounds great and it plays at the correct pitch and speed. However at the end of the file it simply does nothing. It does not go on the the next step in the extension.conf nor does it hang up. It just sits there. During play I have two processes running for the mp3 stream: root 6300 6299 8 22:32 ?

No Audio from Console but mpg123 from shell works fine.
I get audio from mpg123 at the command line but when I load up asterisk and try to get audio from the console it looks like it's working, and even pauses like it is playing the file but there is no audio coming from the speakers. I have searched and looked through the archives and tried to fix this but I have had no success. This is an onboard Intel card (AC'97) and I also tried an SB

MPG123, Music On Hold and Variable Bit Rate
I swear I read somewhere at sometime a command line that someone put forth that used mpg123 and sox to normalize the MP3 for MoH to a constant bitrate, etc... Through my search again for this information I can't find it. Can someone tell me if I am crazy and if so... does anyone have an "off the top of their head" solution to getting the bitrate constant for MoH? Thanks, Mike

Musiconhold interrupted sound
Hi, I don't seem to be able to get music on hold to play normally. The sound gets often interrupted with a few seconds of silence then starts playing again. I'm using mpg123-0.59r and tried mp3 files with different sample rates with no luck. If that matters, endpoints are SIP ata186, SIP Cisco 7960 and H.323 (over chan_h323) Quintum Tenor. Sometimes it may play fine for a few minutes

buffer-issue when piping live-streams into musiconhold
Hi Folks, I'm currently trying to configure musiconhold (on a asterisk-1.4.17) for replaying a live mp3-stream (Icecast2). after reading the related material on voip-info and several other pages, I've successfully tried out mpg132, madplay and mplayer to pipe a stream into moh. however, there is one major problem involving some kind of buffer-issue. let me try to explain this problem

mpg123 removal
When I configured this server, I did not do the make mpg123 option. Months later, I read about it and did it, as the client was asking about MOH. About a week later the server crashed, which it never has before. I believe mpg123 have a memory leak. What's the best way to remove it, and is there an alternative that is stable? -- Chris Mason NetConcepts (264) 497-5670 Fax: (264) 497-8463

useless mpg123 processes hanging around
Running Asterisk 1.6.2.11 on debian 5.0.6 with mpg123 1.4.3 when i start asterisk, i immediately see two mpg123 processes spawned which sit there forever. I can't imagine it's normal behavior, but if it is, please explain :) # /etc/init.d/asterisk stop stopping asterisk. #[...] # /etc/init.d/asterisk start starting asterisk. # psg aster root 14573 1 0 16:29 pts/2 00:00:00

Music on Hold - can it be done without mpg123?
I have been having periodic trouble with mpg123. I have tried .59r & .59s and perhaps others a while back and still get the 'broken pipe' and zombie mpg123s (although I think I saw something about a fix in the changelog) once and a while. Is it currently possible to configure moh to run directly on the wav files? Now-a-days hard drives are so big, why use compression at all (at least

Notice for Gentoo Users In Regard to mpg123
Hi there, After scratching my head for days on why there is horrible white noise in musiconhold, I finally found out that the latest emerge version of mpg123: 0.59s-r2 is not working well with asterisk. However, if you get the latest source from mpg123.de mpg123-pre0.59s.tar.gz. Then it works wonderfully. Just a heads up for the Gentoo admin David
