Problem updating ddclient
when I ran "sudo yum update" on my CentOS-7.2.1511 today,
ddclient was updated to ddclient-3.8.3-1.el7.noarch (from 3.7.3),
and ddclient.conf was moved to ddclient.conf.rpmsave .
When I move it back, "sudo systemctl restart ddclient"
fails with the error (in "sudo journalctl -xe | grep ddclient")

Ddclient: is this a problem?
I'm running ddclient on a remote CentOS server (with dynamic IP address).
About twice a day I get email from ddclient saying
"TIMEOUT: checkip.dyndns.org after 120 seconds".
As far as I can see, ddclient checks the IP address every 10 minutes.
So can I assume that ddclient got the address the next time it tried?
I looked at the Perl source, but couldn't really disentangle it.

ddclient stops running
I find ddclient stops running after a time
on a remote CentOS-6.4 server.
Has anyone else found this?
I think it has been happening for a couple of months.
I notice because I get complaining messages in my logwatch.

ddclient under CentOS-7?
Is anyone running ddclient under the CentOS-7?
It doesn't seem to be in epel.
I've downloaded the source and it is running,
but giving me endless warnings.
Could I run it as a daemon?
I'm not sure if this is allowed nowadays.

Strange Postfix problem
Hello,
Was trying to setup postfix on my home PC. Running Centos 6.4. I don't
have a static IP and use zoneedit and ddclient to keep my installation
of zoneminder current.
So I decided I wanted to get zoneminder to send me email alerts. Sent
some test messages but none were sent.
I went to webdnstools website thinking maybe there is a dns or network
problem.
When it checks my dns setup,

Asterisk on Dynamic IP to a SIP extension
Verizon has put another good third party DSL supplier out of the DSL business. Their mindset is to kill the competition and then kill DSL and copper althogether in FIOS areas.
So am soon losing my static IP and I need to prepare for the change. I currently have Asterisk running using, besides local extensions, a remote SIP extension in another state. In the new configuration both Asterisk and

running jail with alternate IP
I am currently setting up a firewall that translates my internal network
over to 5 public IP addresses. The addresses are dynamically assigned, so I
use ddclient to update my www.dyndns.org account. I've set up several
aliases on the external interface of the firewall, and succeeded in having
the internal computers use those extra public IPs.
What I want to do is have 5 copies of ddclient

Networking setup/help
I had to install 5.5 from scratch and now I have to rebuild my home networking system.
I haven't had to mess with this stuff in over 5+ years and I'm sure there may be better ways of doing it now.
My liunx box acts as firewall/gateway for 2 other pcs. I was using a script from the Linux IP Masquerade HOWTO with ddclient (since I have a dynamic ip).
Also, I don't think I need a full

winsock error.
Running Orbitron, it was O.K. for a while, now in a terminal, I get:
fixme:winsock:convert_sockopt Unknown SOL_SOCKET optname 0xff7f
err:winsock:WS_setsockopt Invalid level (1) or optname (65407)
AFAIK, the only difference in my setup between last time and now is to
install ddclient.
Any suggestions please?

Multi-ISP with one Dynamic IP
I have two feeds, one with a static IP and one with a dynamic IP. How
can I configure a Multi-ISP setup with the dynamic IP, or can I? I don''t
think the gateway will change, just the interface IP.

A problem with power outages
I have a CentOS-6.2 server in Italy.
Every few months the server gets into a strange state
and stops working after a power outage.
I should say that this does not occur after every power outage;
I suspect, but have no real evidence for this,
that if the power comes back too quickly
then the machine gets confused because it is in the middle of closing down.
If I am in Italy the solution is simple;

Bit of a Newbie Question
Apologies in advance - I'm sure there's something quite obvious I'm not
doing correctly, but since I'm unable to resolve the problem myself....
I've installed Dovecot 99.14 on FreeBSD-CURRENT using the Dovecot
FreeBSD port. My "network" consists of a cable modem connected to a
router which is in turn connected (only) to my computer. My ISP assigns

Request for recommendations for dynamic dns daemon
Greetings,
I'm trying to configure dynamic dns on my test/backup machine (CentOS
5.8). I'm using Zoneedit DNS.
I've been trying to setup ddclient; the error message that I get is:

Or should I use ez-ipupdate?
Thank you.

Changing from dynamic ip to static ip
Hello,
I have been on a dynamic ip for about 5 years and have just upgraded to a
static ip.
I know I need to change my network setup on my eth0 nic to static and stop
ddclient from trying to update my address but is there _really_ anything
else I need to change. I have a couple of websites on this address using
*:80 in my httpd.conf. I can easily change this but don't think it would

DynDNs.org compatible server scripts
Greetings,
I know this mail is slightly OT. But my DNS server and and all other compute
nodes (currently around 80) run Centos.
Has anybody come across some package script which can be used to listen to
request from DynDNS.org clients which can be found commonly in the devices?
I have a scenario wherein many devices having Dynamic IP scattered across a
geographical region. most have an embedded

Hosts allow, SSH and DSL dynamic IPs
Hi,
Our small office is running a SAMBA share behind an ADSL modem/router which
we can connect to remotely via SSH tunneling. We've limited access in
smb.conf to a range on the local subnet and (because we have not found a
workaround) the external IP address assigned to the router. Problem is,
whenever the IP of the router is reset, smb.conf requires editing and the
server needs to be
