my centos switched alone its root fs to read-only
My test server was in very eavy load, running kolab's components:
postfix, cyrus-imap and openldap
A second test machine was sending, and reading emails as fast as it can.
The CPU was never idle !
I left the server at about 17H30
and at 22H I find it "uncommitted" (difficult to work when the
partition in read-only !)
However the mount command report it as RW !
The /boot is still RW

wich filesystem to store > 250E6 small files in same or hashed dire
Hi
I need to store about 250.000.000 files. Files are less than 4k.
On a ext4 (fedora 14) the system crawl at 10.000.000 in the same directory.
I tried to create hash directories, two level of 4096 dir = 16.000.000
but I had to stop the script to create these dir after hours
and "rm -rf" would have taken days ! mkfs was my friend
I tried two levels, first of 4096 dir, second of 64

find /etc -size -1G return only empty files
Hello
find /etc -size -1G
should return all files less than 1Giga byte in /etc, but return a
list of empty file (size=0)
find /etc -size -2G
work fine and return all the files
This works the same on my fedora11 and my centos 5 !
Did I miss something or is it a bug ?

pxelinux doesn't suppress common prefix if nothing precedes double colon
Contrary to the pxelinux.doc documentation, the common filename prefix
is only suppressed if an explicit hostname or IP address precedes the
double colon, e.g. 192.168.1.1::/foobar. A tcpdump of TFTP requests
reveals that the double colon does nothing in implicit case (::/foobar
is the same as /foobar, i.e. gets mapped to /pxelinux//foobar or
whatever). 0.0.0.0::/foobar also does this.

[Fwd: pxelinux doesn't suppress common prefix if nothing precedes double colon]
Just a reminder that this remains an issue up to and including the
latest syslinux 3.53-pre (0x473cfc9c).
Additional testing suggests that implicit hostname/IP has never worked,
ever since the common prefix suppression feature was added in version 3.00.

silently testing for data from another package for .Rd examples
In an .Rd example for a package, I want to use data from another
package, but avoid loading the entire
package and avoid errors/warnings if that other package is not available.
If I don't care about loading the other package, I can just do:
if (require("ElemStatLearn", quietly=TRUE)) {
data(prostate)
# rest of example
}
I'd rather just be able to do something like:

That's probably "a good thing". You don't know what else was changed
(e.g., registry entries, etc.) that won't keep the system from

Questions about kernel updates
The latest CentOS 5 kernel, 2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 broke my box and I had to
drop back to 2.6.18-8.1.14.el5 before I could play DVDs with either Xine
or mplayer. ( xine-0.99.5-1.el5.rf & mplayer-1.0-0.36.rc1try2.el5.rf ).
This is no big deal to me -- as long as I can make certain that the
older kernel doesn't go away.

The password is correct, i.e. 'echo -n 'passed' | openssl dgst -sha1' matches.
The user is setup correctly in /etc/dovecot/users (the /etc/dovecot/users was copied from another known-good server, so the syntax is correct and appropriate

CentOS 5 sysreport
I stumbled across this issue because I requested to install the
sysreport package in my kickstart file. Anaconda complains that such
a package doesn't exist. There is a bug report about this already
(http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2492), but it's certainly a
strange situation.
1. Anaconda doesn't think the package sysreport exists
2. yum thinks it exists:

apt on Centos 5.1
Just read on planet centos that you can easily install apt on Centos too using yum.
However, I get :
[root at mike-2 ~]# yum install apt
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do
So not sure what I am missing ..
And sorry if this isn't the right

Foobar 2000 and Wine: terrible sound problem.
Hi, I am new here.
Ever since I use Ubuntu Linux I've used Wine. This worked nice until version 1.3.x; 1.3.7, I believe.
Now I cannot play music anymore with Foobar2000 and the new version of Wine. The problem is that the sound is very distorted every now and then and it even stops sometimes.
Initially I've done some tests with Pulse Audio disabled because according to some users that

Code coverage for member functions that are defined inside the class
Hello,
We have a user that wants to get the code coverage report for his library without turning on instrumentation for the library clients or change how they are built (only the library is instrumented). It seems like the inline member functions defined in headers are not instrumented in this case because the clients are not instrumented. The library itself does not have a copy of the inline

LTO and intrinsics mangling
In the current mangling scheme for overloaded intrinsics we include overloaded type names in the intrinsic name. For example:
%struct.foobar = type { i32 }
declare <4 x %struct.foobar*> @llvm.masked.load.v4p0struct.foobar(<4 x %struct.foobar*>*, i32, <4 x i1>, <4 x %struct.foobar*>)
Verifier checks that an overloaded intrinsic name matches with its signature.
