Asterisk on hosted server
I'd planning on install Asterisk on a hosted Linux box we're setting up.
The hosting provider that seems to offer the best deal can install
either Debian 3.1 or SUSE 9.x or 10.0 in either 32 or 64 bit editions
(running on AMD 64 bit).
My experience has been gained on RedHat to date, but I do have some SUSE
experience. I assume I'll have no problems running Asterisk on SUSE,
but

Re: Subscription state after reload (New subject)
Actually, I have tested this here with an Aastra 9133i and an Asterisk@Home server, and the 9133i will re-subscribe on its own after an Asterisk reboot, if you wait long enough. It took on the order of an hour to do so. Of course, a phone reboot will get it done faster, if necessary, but it _will_ eventually re-subscribe on its own.

Asterisk not conforming to the RFC?/Aastra phone delay issue
Fellow list members,
I have run into an issue where I encounter a delay at the beginning of a
phone conversation when I make outgoing calls through Asterisk with an
Aastra 9133i hardphone. This is most noticable when I call a voicemail
system with the Aasta and then with a land line or other VoIP phone.
The first word or two of the voicemail message is generally cut off.

Ringinbacktone even without 'r', and inexistant codec
I am trying to make an Inalp Smartnode 1200 (SIP-to-ISDN gateway) work with Asterisk. It works ... Partially.
We are using the Inalp to connect ISDN phones, it basically acts like an ISDN ATA.
First of all, when I make a SIP call to the unit with a simple Dial() command (no "r", so Asterisk shouldn't generate its ringback tone) I hear Asterisk's ringback tone anyway (I'm

Ringback issue
My last problem was nicely solved through this mailing list so
hopefully this new problem will have the same happy outcome.
My situation is that I have many extensions. Here is a sample:

No ringback tone generated by Asterisk with OH323 connections
I am using Asterisk (Debian unstable packages) with an OH323 connection to my
provider. Everything is working except for the generation of ringback tones
when I receive inbound calls from the PSTN. My provider tells me that we're
sending call progress indications and that because of this they're expecting
us to generate the ringback tone. Does anybody know how to configure this in

smsq, Zaptel in UK
Hi all,
I've been trying to get SMS operational on my Asterisk box, which has a
TDM400P card with a pair of FXO interfaces configured (ZAP/1 & ZAP/2).
I've not had luck with either of my lines, after issuing the command
"smsq --motx-channel=ZAP/1/1709400X 00000 register". I see the
following output in my Asterisk console:
-- Attempting call on ZAP/1/17094009 for

Breaking news, but what happened? 11.000 channels on one server
Hello Asterisk users around the world!
Recently, I have been working with pretty large Asterisk
installations. 300 servers running Asterisk and Kamailio (OpenSER).
Replacing large Nortel systems with just a few tiny boxes and other
interesting solutions. Testing has been a large part of these
projects. How much can we put into one Asterisk box? Calls per euro
invested matters.
So far,

What's with Indications/SetLanguage/Zaptel/RingBack ?
Good morning everybody,
Can someone explain to me the interconnection between
these four things: indications.conf, SetLanguage(), zaptel.conf
and ring-back ? If there is any !! :- )
I am having this case where some users cannot hear ring back
from a DeadAGI script and it seems to be interconnected to these items.
These users are from the iaxfriends table, they _can_ hear ring-back from

Indications UK - cant get away from american sounding dial tone
Have a problem which can't find solution to on WIKI..
Trying to get * to use UK based indication tones. i.e. british ring, dial
tone, busy signal.
Have changed the indications.conf file to default to UK. However this seems
to have no affect. What am i missing. Am using 1.0.3 stable.
Many thanks
Andrew.

Outbound call: caller gets no ringback on session progress
Hello!
An extension registered at asterisk 13.23 initiates an external call (pjsip). After the Invite, the
callee (-> ISP) sends a
100 Trying
183 Session Progress (*without* SDP)
Asterisk now sends to the extension:
183 Session Progress (*with* SDP)
183 Session Progress (*with* SDP) (really two times)
The callee meanwhile sends
180 Ringing (*without* SDP)

Ring back when free?
Has anyone here implemented "Ring back when free" in Asterisk?
The way it works in the UK is as follows:
1. A calls B. B is engaged (busy).
2. A hears "The number you called is busy. To use ringback, press 5"
3. A presses 5, and hears "Your ringback request has been accepted".
4. A hangs up.
5. Later, B hangs up. The system then calls A (if A is now busy, it

At last!!! :)
I can smile now. I made my * work with my Cisco. Finally. First problem was Ethernet on my Linux. After installing * on a different machine, I got rid of that "icmp udp unreachable" error. My next problem was the call stays on on Cisco gateway, but the ATA drops it. I figured out it was my mistake on dialplan in extensions.conf --- (it took me a day to notice it.. damn!). my config

Cannot hear ringback music from telco
Hello,
We have an asterisk 1.2.13 box that use a Digium TE205P T1 PRI connect to
the telco, users mainly use snom 320/300 SIP phones.
When dialing to an external phone number with custom ringback music, users
reported that they could not hear the music but can only hear the standard
ring tone generated by the system.
Is there any kind of settings need to allow the ringback music pass to the

ignore 183 session progress in parallel call scenarios
Hi,
I am using asterisk 1.8.22 and have a problem when calling in parallel
several SIP endpoints and I am not sure how to resolve it. In this case
Asterisk will not bridge any audio to the caller before the 200 OK. Which
means any progress announcements, including remotely generated ringback,
are not passed back to the caller.
This behavior is completely correct, because there is no way to know

Dial Plan Logic Problem
Hi
I can't for the life of me work out why this is not
working. When in the campon contect if you hit a DTMF
key 2 you get moved to the exten => 2 defined in the
mainmenu context not the exten => 2 defined in the
campon context. What is wrong? The same happens if you
hit key 1.

Bad ringback tone on zap channel
Hi,
I've noticed that sometimes instead of getting a regular ring tone
when calling out on a Zap channel, I get this obnoxious loud noise
which forces me to hang up.
Is this a problem in the Zaptel driver? I seem to recall that ringback
tones are generated by zaptel when dialing out from a SIP phone over a
Zap trunk.
Thanks.

Asterisk goes international :-)
During the recent week, we've worked hard to add more of the contributed international
support to Asterisk. A big step was taken yesterday when Mark added international support
for saynumber() to CVS. We now have a first version of support for
* Danish
* German
* English
* Swedish
* Norwegian
* Portuguese
* Italian
* French
All of these require that you add your own sound files. There are
