Re: YUM updates
Hey, > The easy way to make sure you are up to date with > all the latest patches is to run: > # yum update There is an even easier way -- tell cron to apply YUM updates every day. There is a HowTo on the cAos site here: http://www.caosity.org/index.php?option=displaypage&Itemid=102&op=page&SubMenu= Rick

Custom kernel needed for ndiswrapper? (for Linksys WPC54G wireless pcmcia)
Greetings: I'm just installed Centos-4 on an IBM T-21 laptop. So far so good. Now I'd like to pop in a wireless lan adapter. I'm looking at a buying a Linksys WPC54G adapter (although I haven't done so yet). After doing some searching, it looks like the best way to get this card working is via ndiswrapper [http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net] and then to use Windoze

I have a "location" partial that I want users to enter "Address, City, State, Zip" information in however I have "Payees", "Institution", and "Event" models that can have "location" information stored with them. Since I don''t want to duplicate the partial across each

How NOT to have a disk recognized by grub?
Greetings: I'm upgrading a fileserver running 3.4 (upgrade to a larger disk). I backed up the data from the "old" disk and slapped in a newer, larger disk and installed Centos-3.4. No problems. Now, there are some files on the "old" disk that I forgot to move to the back-up disk, so I'd like to mount the "old" disk as /dev/hdd and reboot the system and

[Cucumber] Level of features / Feature dependent steps
Forgive the long post, just looking for input/advice/alternate opinions.. Like many I think that going through the exercise of framing user requests in Cucumber terms(Features, Scenarios..) really helps facilitate necessary conversations and avoid time wasted implementing the wrong thing(e.g. as a requirement/specification tool). However, I''m a bit confused when it comes to

Pressing "I" for interactive start-up does nothing
Greetings, I'm trying to convert a Dell Inspiron 210B laptop into a sandbox using Centos4.2. The install went without incident but rebooting (starting) the first time the system hangs at "Initializing storage network" then says "disabling IRQ# 11" then goes no further. I've tried to press "i" and "I" to enter into interactive start-up (so I

Issues/thoughts re CentOS-4
This is a list of issues for discussion for CentOS-4. Most of it is based on my experience from building/maintaining CentOS-2 and observing CentOS-3. I have not seen the CentOS-4 beta yet so I don't know if any of this is already done. If these have been discussed on IRC then perhaps someone could produce a shot summary of the outcomes....? * Just call it CentOS-4 not 4.1 etc. Too

should cAos block access to mirror.caosity.org?
Hey, Greg suggested that I take a straw poll. Should cAos take steps to prevent getting stuck with a big ISP bill in the future? For example, should cAos: a) for new installs, have the yum.conf point to public mirrors, rather than to mirror.caosity.org? b) make sure that "yum update" does not substitute a new yum.conf file that points only to mirror.caosity.org? c) allow public

A Problem : Can NOT install APT or Synaptic for v4.0
Hello, There was no problem installing "APT" package in CentOS 4.0 Beta, but so far I could not install APT or Synaptic by "# yum install apt" or by "# yum install synaptic" in a usual manner. Is there any solution for this? It seems to me, something is wrong only for these two packages. Regards.

Release of centos-3.3 ISP bill
It turns out that the release of Centos-3.3 was so popular, that it threw us way over the threshold of our ISP's, and now we are stuck with a _very_ large bill (as in an estimated 6TB of transfers). While in one hand I am ecstatic that we are so successful, but on the other hand, that is coming out of the developers pockets. The developers should be the last ones footing these bills (and this

[Linux Mint 11 / Wine 1.3.15] Nvidia screen refresh problem
I run a couple Windows apps (Quicken 2007, Solitaire Plus) under wine. I've noted a screen refresh problem with both apps on various releases of Linux Mint (or Ubuntu) and wine. Can anyone suggest how I can eliminate the following problem. What happens: When I use the open-source graphics card driver, the apps work fine. But when I use the proprietary Nvidia drivers.... Maintainers and security updates
Hi, can someone tell how many are behind maintaining the site and converting security and regular RHEL fixes for Centos-3? I see the last round of security updates for RHEL were turned out in a day which is impressive. Trying to get an idea if Centos has alot of community support and being maintained by more than one person. I am not confident enough yet in building my own updates. I am another

suggestions for CentOS
Hi to all, I have some suggestions to make about the CentOS 3. I think that this would be great to include many questions we have on this mailing list into the FAQs of the centOS site. They are so poor, that we feel like nothing is happening for this centos 3, and in fact this seems to be a very good distribution.. too sad.. Probably that finding a way to access the mailing list archive through

local yum repository
bit off topic, but.... I've set up my first Centos gateway server and now setting up another server on internal network. I thought it would be nice to use the gateway servers "/var/cache/yum" as a local repository for any internal servers since it would be up to date with the lastest packages and save bandwidth. So... I created a sym link to create a repository through gateways
