How quickly are RHEL errata released as CentOS errata ?
Hi,
I am deciding on what 'RHEL clone' to use and prefer to use one that has a
quick release after RedHat releases an update.
I checked the repositories, but have not encountered any of the latest
errata. Am I looking at the wrong place ?
Thanks,
Taco

Slow logout from gnome
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but on a number of
CentOS-3 boxes I had a problem when you log out from X/Gnome it would
take ages (> 1 min) to log out.
Saving the session made it quicker for the next logout, but the culprit
appears to be the rhn-applet. Uninstall that rpm and problem solved.

more about: migration center
John,
I did not hear back from you right away. Maybe doing
all the combinations is too big a job for one person.
It might work if we split them up.
I could do these two:
RedHat 9 -> reinstall CentOS-3.1
RedHat 9 -> live update to CentOS-3.1
I am volunteering for these because I already have
RedHat 9 and CentOS-3.1 CD's.
The only rub is on Saturday I go on vacation, and at

php-snmp
Hello list.
Anyone have a php rpm with snmp enabled or a php-nsmp rpm?
I need to build some php pages and would like to use the snmp function
that are built in. If there is another way to enable it by not using one
of these rpm's that would be great too. TIA

openssl-0.9.7a-33.12
Why is RH using such an outdated version of OpenSSL ?
I understand that they may have back-ported the fix but I just tried
installing Net::SSLeay on a Centos 3.3 box and it wouldn't install, saying
that the openssl version was old and suggested I get 9.7b or later?
How are you handling this problem? I am resorting to recompiling OpenSSL
9.7d .
Thanks,
Dave

yum fails on IBMJava2-JRE
My yum update for CentOS-2 started to fail a while ago.
http://mirror.centos.org/centos-2/updates/headers/header.info mentions this
line:
1:IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386=i386/IBMJava2-JRE-1.3.1-10.i386.rpm
But that file doesn't seem to exist anywhere. So I end up with this error
and it exits.
getting /var/cache/yum/update/headers/IBMJava2-JRE-1-1.3.1-10.i386.hdr

John Newbin has been working on a migration center.

What is the update version of CentOS-2?
I'm pretty sure that I'm not asking the question correctly, but I'd like to
host a database that is supported with RedHat Enterprise Linux 2.1 with
Update 2 (Q2 2003), so I'm assuming CentOS-2 fills the bill. However, when
I run this application, I get some weird CPU cycling that I can't trace to
any specific task.
So, perhaps my install is not as current as I think it is. I

Re: cron job madness
Hey,
> check-update sounds better than putting yum update
in a cron job. Only a mad man would do that!
Are the cAos and CentOS releases THAT BAD?
> Much better to run a daily cron which rsyncs your
local patch repository.
So must one have your own local repository to avoid
being labeled as a madman?
In which one of the RedHad reference books can I find
this?
Just curious.

rpm corruption
I have recently deployed a number of CentOS-3.4 boxes and I am seeing
problems with rpm database apparent corruption. db4 errors like
DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND.
I have found that using LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 seems to fix the problem
but I can''t find much info on why or if doing that is good or bad.
I have done --rebuilddb but with the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL that might be
making thinks worse... I just
