Messing around with iptables
Hello all,
I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how
it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall
and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my
Desktop CentOS3 machine.
"iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP"
now the command seems to have went through because I
didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1
I am getting a response

Re: nVIDIA solution
Hey SCTV Library,
Good work! (Is that your real name?)

driver.
I was wondering if you could help me write an
informative FAQ for this.
Here is what I have so far:
The Nforce2 driver is part of the kernel-unsupported
package (which must be installed separately).
Set the Option "NvAGP" to "1". This tells the kernel

ssh-ed25519 and ecdsa-sha2-nistp256 host keys
Hello.
I am running OpenSSH 7.9p1 on my client and server. ssh-keyscan shows
the server has ssh-rsa, ssh-ed25519, and ecdsa-sha2-nistp256 host
keys. My /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts file contains the server's
ssh-ed25519 host key. When I try to SSH to the server I get this

Keysize mismatch error on host key
I've got a problem that I'm hoping the list can help with, otherwise ...
Heres the problem, I've got OpenSSH 1.2.2p1 running on my Intel Linux
box as the secure server. I can connect from another Intel Linux box
using scp and it all seems to work fine.
Another box tries to connect and it gets a warning about the host
keysize not matching. I'm thinking this could be some byte

File permission
Hello all,
I think my file permission are completely screwed up? I created a
file called text file called test as root user and have done chgrp on
that file to a group called admin. I have added the users ozzie and
root to that group. I then did a chmod g+wr on the test file and ozzie
can still not write to the file. If I take away read access from the
group, ozzie can still read the

I need to be able to turn off host checking entirely
I have a small LAN. The entire system is within my view - all the
hosts, the switch and the wire. If someone is in a a position to do a
"man in the middle" attack, there's no need - they already have me.
Over the other side of the room, and beside my desk, I have test
systems. I use disk caddies (see www.vipower.com for examples) and can
switch operating systems in about the

Re: NVIDIA on Linux
Hello scty library,
I had huge problems with NVIDIA cards on Linux. The
screen would go blank as soon as X tried to load. I
only tried using the driver that came with CentOS.
After lots of parts swapping, I found that the monitor
(obviously) and (even) the motherboard make a
difference.
> If so what did you do about it.
Finally, I gave up on NVIDIA cards -- I got a Voodoo

Nvidia Drivers
When I load the latest driver from Nvidia in CentOS-3
the logon screen turn light gray and I can't log in.
Has anyone else had this problem?
If so what did you do about it.
If I use the driver that comes with CentOS I don't
have any problems.

Maintainers and security updates
Hi, can someone tell how many are behind maintaining
the site and converting security and regular RHEL
fixes for Centos-3? I see the last round of security
updates for RHEL were turned out in a day which is
impressive.
Trying to get an idea if Centos has alot of community
support and being maintained by more than one person.
I am not confident enough yet in building my own
updates.

auto-accept keys matching DNSSEC-validated SSHFP records
Hi,
I submitted a patch back in November of 2009 to add local validation of
DNSSEC record to openssh. I recent updated the patch for 5.8, and
figured I do a little marketing while I'm at it. :-)
Someone had previously submitted a patch which simply trusted the AD
bit in the response, which is susceptible to spoofing by anyone who can
inject packets between the resolver and the client. Our
