Festival and Asterisk - different voices?
Just curious to know if anyone uses Festival with * and whether or not
you've got a different voice than the default. I'm looking at doing a
commercial application but my boss doesn't want to shell out the $
before we do some real world testing of * and Festival. Specifically,
I'm looking for a female voice, preferably US English.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
MC

Festival Speech Synthesis 1.95:beta July 2004 Eval
Hello--
In the interests of playing around and wasting time, I've installed the
latest version of the
Festival stuff, 1.95beta.
And, in the interests of future Asterisk-Festival connectivity, I
applied the 1.4.3 patch to put in the
asterisk related routines. I did it by hand, but, it looks like the
patch will apply with no comment.
Asterisk works with the new server...

Assuming you follow the installation instructions, and install the Mbrola and
other goodies for all the possible different voices, then you can,

Problem on getting wav file out of Festival-text2wave utility ?
Hi,
I'm banging my head with Perl AGI script to produce wav file to be streamed
with Festival's text2wave utility.
I have two lines of code:
------------------------------------
system('echo "' . $text . '" | text2wave -scale 1.5 -F 8000 -o ' . $filename
. ' - ');
system('echo "' . $text . '" | text2wave -eval

festival problem
I have loaded festival-1.4.3 patched with the 1.4.3.diff file. Festival source is in /usr/src/festival dir. When I try to use it I get this from asterisk:

-- Executing Festival("SIP/chad-57a4", ""I am talking"") in new stack

app_festival volume problems
I'm using app_festival to speak some text to callers. I'm having two
problems with this. The first is with IAX calls (I've not tried others)
the first few seconds of the speech is garbled. The second problem I'm
having is the the volume of the speech IS VERY LOUD. I tried putting
the following in the siteinit.scm but it didn't seem to make any
difference.

Festival issues
I have used this Asterisk at Home for a while now, 2 years.
Only recently, I am trying Festival and on invoking festival --server I get

[LLVMdev] Cambridge LLVM Social + Beer Festival
Dear folks,
Next week will be the famous Cambridge Beer Festival, and since beer has
everything to do with compilers, we'll hold the the next LLVM Social there,
trying to find the blood alcohol concentration of 0.1337% to achieve
super-human programming abilities.

Problems with zombies left after calls to Festival
I started using Festival for the first time today and am having a problem
with zombies left behind after every time that it speaks. I'm using
Festival 1.4.3 with today's CVS of Asterisk. Everything seems to work.
The only obvious problem is that a defunct process is left behind every
call to Festival.
Is this a known problem? Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Festival talks fast...
Ok I have festival on RH8. It speaks fast and you can't understand it. I
don't have any FXO cards in this box yet. Can someone shed some light on
this?
Thanks,

Example weather report AGI by Zip Code using Festival available
I have posted a link to the tarball of my rather simple AGI script that
allows a user to input a Zip Code (USA only) via DTMF and have the
current weather conditions spoken to them. This is the first release
and I'm sure it will have some bugs. It requires a few modules from
CPAN and the asterisk-perl AGI interface. It's a very small script.

Festival sounds like a steam engine
I tried running the festival app today with little success. I have a
working festival installation that does TTS to the linux sound output
perfectly.
With * it just produces a sort of hissing sound. The length of hissing is
proportional to the length of text string that it is given to speak. Since
I'm running on a PPC system I fear the dreaded endian problem is to blame
and that

Festival Time and Temperature application
I've searched through the lists, but can't seem to find a reference to
someone that said they had a time and temperature application for *.
Voip-info wiki would be a good place for it as a Festival example!!!
Can someone remind me where it's at?
TIA.

Asterisk, festival, dropped calls
Hi
I have been playing around with asterisk for a few days now. I have asterisk
running with a single x100p card and a couple of x-lite "extensions". Here's
where I am at:
I can make calls between the extensions. Voice mail seems to work OK. I can
use the x100p card to dial out to the PSTN over the analogue interface and
receive calls fine. I have my FWD account hooked up as well

Error running festival command
I'm finding I can't run two festival commands in the same connection. Given
the following:

exten => 555,2,Wait(1)

exten => 555,4,Wait(1)
exten => 555,5,Festival(she also had a duck)
exten => 555,6,Hangup
Calling 555 gets the first line, then I get the error:

Festival application: clipping start of sound?
Hi
I'm running a bright shiny new asterisk installation, and have
discovered a problem with the festival application - when it plays back
the generated sound, it skips the start. If, on the other hand, it has
caching turned on, then when it plays the cached sound, it doesn't skip
the first word or two. I assume that this has something to do with the
time taken to generate the speech -
