Forum

Mailing lists are fine, but one losses a lot of information, how-to's, advices, and so on. I currently am a network administrator / programmer /web programmer in europe and i point the lack of centralized site with information as

I need to choose a bbs for my site The significance for rails development is that I want to have single sign on between both my Rails app and my forum. I was just about to work on integrating the Rails SaltedLoginGenerator into my rails app when I read this post

phpbb forum with rails application.
I would like to knock up a phpbb forum with a rails application. I wanted to do this as I want to use ActiveRecord to crawl through the user database in the rails app. Is there a way to do this - on the same domain name and server... Or does it depend how the server is setup? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Forum software is rubbish.
Hi, I just tried to register for the wine forum, and noticed several really annoying things about the process: 1. The "Register" link is kind of hard to find. Normally it is just next to the "Forgot password" link. 2. No SSL. 3. You emailed me my password! Argh! This is a terrible idea for obvious reasons, and also implies: 4. Passwords aren't stored hashed. Seriously.

recommendation for rpm packaged forum/bb software for centos 5?
Subject says it all- has anyone got any recommendations for rpm-packaged forum/bb software for CentOS 5 - preferrably from a repo like rpmforge or similar so it will get updates as they come through? Yes, I can install phpBB et al from scratch but I with 'yum update' it is harder for me to miss updates :-) -- Cheers, Tony

Why no forum app in rails yet?
Hi Guys, So creating a forums application seems like something that rails can handle easily and well, and whatever implementation that came to fruition would be head and shoulders above existing products like vBulliten and phpBB. Even the existing rails forums are using php-based forum products! An insult if you ask me. So my question -- is there any current development of a rails-based

Unexpected timeout in rsync
Hi I am having trouble with intermittent timeouts when backing up a largish set of files from /usr using rsync. Approx 125,000 files, 2GB. Backup is to same machine, from a partition on hda to one on hdb. I am using ribs 2.1 (slightly modified to ignore rsync error 23), run with nice -n 5 via cron. (for ribs visit http://rustyparts.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=9 ) Typical error report is:

Re: Weird Notepad++ toolbar bug
Hi, This bug is not a necesary a wine bug. There was a logic coding bug with the toolbar in notepad++ and at one point could work only if was compliled with the old Visual Studio 7 (2003). This version you allso downloaded and worked correct even in Wine. I maintain a custom version of Notepad++ @ phpBB forums here (http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=802725). Sync use accounts between appdb, wine-bugs and wine-forums
Currently, I have two accounts : one for wine-bugs and one for appdb. That doesn't annoy me as it is, but that would be cool f those were merged together. I don't know if it is possible, since appdb, bugzilla and phpbb are three different php programs, but that would help new users to participate on every side of wine. By the way, I saw that my tr'd message went on a new thread on the

cross domain cookies
Does anybody know how to access the domain of a cookie from inside rails? I am try to integrate phpbb forums into my site and one of the things phpbb does is store a cookie. The forums are at forums.domain.com and the site is www.domain.com so i needed to set the cookie domain in phpbb to just be ".domain.com" so both sites can access it. The trouble is when using cookies[] in rails,

Froums
Jason i think you have misread me Im not saying that the phpBB system would have spam runing through it Im saying that on this list serv someone is spaming. They are not spamming to the list they are spamming email accounts instead. I have used phpBB and it works just fine both from a user and an admin end. i would prefer it for THIS reason but there are still reasons i would NOT like to use it.

Re: Sum-up: Re-proposal: web forums
Hello, I have noted below problems that we can take care of, and those that aren't our problem, never were, never will be, impossible to be our problem, (you get the picture), because they are PEBKAC errors :) For all of those that don't know: PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair.
