2.6 kernel
Any big heads up folks can offer as I set off to try building me a 2.6.9 kernel from a kernel.org tarball? -- Robert Thomas ("beau") Hayes Link Open your heart, pray for peace, preach healing (c)2004ISR http://www.semanticrestructuring.com/

Upgrade from RH-9 to CentOS-3.1, any issues?
Greetings, I've got 4 Redhat-9 servers in a production environment and I don't feel like moving to RHEL. So I'm testing CentOS-3.1 now. So far so good. I'd like to get these servers moved over in the next month or so to a better "supported" OS. Are there any issues I should be aware of in upgrades these RH-9 boxes? Should I be able to just stick in the Centos-3.1

HOWTO? Upgrade Centos-2 to Centos-3
I've been Googling on this all day, installing GPG Keys, and trying different yum configurations. I noticed a similar question in the list a couple of months ago about going from RHEL to Centos-3, but the answer wasn't definitive. Has anyone done this? Can this be done? Can it be done with yum? If so, how? When I 'yum update' I get /usr/bin/yum, yummain.main, yummain.py,

anaconda in 3.3?
Greetings, I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a duplicate of the

kickstart from cd
Howdy, Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http; just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated, I've been mostly looking at the

confession
Gang, I've got to admit, what really sold me on debian was apt-get. And I've been resisting getting up to speed with yum. So, can any of ya point me to a good starter page, maybe one with migrators like me in mind? Many thanks. -- Robert Thomas ("beau") Hayes Link Open your heart, pray for peace, preach healing (c)2004ISR http://www.semanticrestructuring.com/

Qt, KGPG, list archives
Mornin' all, I've got a trio of quick questions: 1.) Are there archives for the list, 2.) Any trick to installing Qt, 3.) Any tricks, once Qt is set, installing KGPG? CentOS-4 i386 errata: Configuration change for
centos-yumconf has been updated to include (but disable) all optional centos repositories. This would allow a user to update / install from an optional repository without needing to modify the configuration files. Example: If you wanted to install a package named foo from the optional repositry named centosplus, you would use the following command: yum --enablerepo=centosplus install foo see

more about: migration center
John, I did not hear back from you right away. Maybe doing all the combinations is too big a job for one person. It might work if we split them up. I could do these two: RedHat 9 -> reinstall CentOS-3.1 RedHat 9 -> live update to CentOS-3.1 I am volunteering for these because I already have RedHat 9 and CentOS-3.1 CD's. The only rub is on Saturday I go on vacation, and at

Changing booted Kernel with grub
Hi, I have updated the kernel to 2.4.21-27.0.2 on Centos 3.4 (was 3.3 when I did the kernel update) and have modified grub.conf to use the single CPU kernel: # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg. #

RHEL question
I work for a small company, and we're running CentOS on our servers. We are looking to possibly move our most critical servers to RHEL. We currently use apt to deploy software upgrades to our servers. I have a question about RHEL subscriptions that they don't seem to be able to answer for me. If you have an RHEL subscription, do you have access to manually download the RPMs? We

New to CentOS
Hi, I have recently discovered CentOS after it was recommended to me in one of the forums that I participate in.. Just interested to find out how long after RH release an update does it take for it to get released for CentOS? I am downloading the ISO's now and hope to have a play with CentOS over the weekend.. :) Later..
