Am I running NUMA?
The subject says it all really, I''m pretty sure the system and bios are
NUMA aware but I''m not sure if it''s enabled? Is it supported in 3.2.1
stable?
Thanks,
Rob

which server to buy?
Hello!
Please, help me, I''m totally lost choosing basic budget server for XEN.
The variants are Sun (X2200 M2 or Sun X2250 M2) or maybe HP Proliant
DL160 G5p. Or maybe some IBM server?
Which X2200 configuration will perform better, two Opteron dual-core
22xx or single quad-core 23xx?
Which one performing better nowadays, Opteron or Xeon? I know that 2-3
years ago Opteron was the

FFT
Hi,
Is FFT implemented in R takes advantage of multi-processors?
I ran this benchmark from from http://www.sciviews.org, and AMD Opteron
2.2 GHz performs better than AMD Opteron 1.8 GHz on all test cases,
except FFT operation.
Both machines run same OSs (RedHat WS 3) and 2.2 GHz has more memory (2
GB RAM) than 1.8 GHz (1 GB RAM). The only difference is that 1.8 GHz is
a dual-processor

Question on Quad Opteron HP DL 585
Hi,
I have a HP DL 585 server with Quad Opteron processors and 32 Gbytes of
RAM.
I would like to know whether CentOS 3.5 x86_64 will recognize all 4 CPUs
and 32 Gbytes of RAM.
I will also running EDA tools like PriteTime, and Magma on this server.
Does CentOS has any issues
with these tools?
your help on this question is appreciated.
Thanks

CD emulation (a la daemontools)
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a method for mounting virtual CD
devices with CD image files. I keep images (.CUE/.BIN pairs) of my CD
collection on a NAS appliance tucked away in my closet. I'd like to
write a script to mount each one, create ID tags, rip the tracks, then
move along to the next one. I figure with a quad core opteron, it
should be able to crank through them in a

Hello,
I am trying to install Win2008 x64 on xen. However it always crashes
with: 0x0000005b which from my research means incompatible CPU. Can
anyone assist with this? How can I get x64 to work?

Running R on dual/quad Opteron machines
Dear all,
I am managing a departmental purchase of an Opteron based
workstation/server for scientific computing on which we will be
running R.
The environment will probably be either Unix/Linux or Solaris and the
amount of RAM will be 8-16Gb, depending on the number of processors.
My main concerns are the following:
1. How much does R benefit from passing from one processor to

checksum feature request
Back in the spring, we started using rsync for a disk to disk backup
system maintaining close to 10PB of data. I am not here to debate the
issue of what is the right tool but only to discuss what we found to be
a problem with rsync when doing so.
We traced the various processes hoping to find what the culprit was
slowing things down so much and determined pretty easily that it was the

lustre+samba
Dear All,
I try to use our cluster though samba share. Everything work fine, but
I think, we should have -o flock at lustre mount time.
Great, it''s work. But when I want to save a file on the share, I get
this on the logs:

kernel 4.9.86-30 missing mpt2sas module
Hi
I am attempting to setup Xen 4.10 with kernel 4.9.86-30 (
virt7-xen-410-testing, virt7-common-testing ) on CentOS7
After installing everything, the machine was unable to boot and hung in
dracut stating it could not find its root device.
The testsystem I use is a somewhat aged Dell M915 Blade (Quad opteron
61xx), using an MPT SAS controller for it's SAS boot drives. Stock

Samba performance tuning
Hi all!
I've seen a number of posts regarding Samba performance - either
comments about perceived poor performance, or recommended parameter
changes. Instead of some arbitrary buffer numbers, or "play with it
until it works", are there any analysis tools that can give quantitative
answers ? Something where instead of just saying, "Samba is too slow",
I could say,

Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all,
I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

Since good server designs have come up in the past, I wanted to point
out a "low-cost" server option that has good I/O, and the vendor offers

AW: Workaround for pcifront issues
Thanks Anna, this was also quite interesting for me.
Did you mean that I just have to eliminate the else branch or raise arround "All devices
behind the uppermost PCI/PCI-X bridge must be co-assigned to the same guest." or do I have
to eliminate more in order to prevent an FLR (whatever that is).
For my board it''s definitely necessary to move PCI devices in different guests,

Firewire question (Centos 4.4)
Assuming I have a firewire card with a supported chipset, is there
anything special I need to do in order for the kernel to recognize the
card? Shouldn't kudzu "wake up" and configure the card when I boot up
after installing it?
This is a brand spanking new 4.4 system and a supported Agere chipset
firewire card. I'm having trouble tickling devices connected to the
card.

Network frozen in Centos 5 with Xen
Hello,
I have this problem - I have installation of Xen and Centos 5 (all RPMs are from Centos repositories).
I have several DomU virtual machines running on this machine.
When I try to copy some bigger amount of data from another physical computer to Dom0/DomU on this machine, the network freezes. The link is still up, I can see that the connection really links on the switch, but nothing is
