PSTN to VoIP
I'm about to purchase an adaptor for a POTS data modem and was looking at
the Sipura line of adaptors (SPA-1000, SPA-1001, SPA-2000, SPA-3000). Do
these work well? Anyone have a suggestion on which model of the Sipura I
should get? Does one work better with * than the others? Are there other
adaptors that work better that I should get?
Thanks,
-Dave

Future installation questions - what do I need?
I currently have a Toshiba Strata DK424 with a Stratagy voicemail system
(4 ports). I am looking to go from having a receptionist answering the
phone to an automated attendant. It appears that Asterisk can be the
solution, but I have some questions. Do I just replace the Stratagy
with the Asterisk or do I need to reconfigure the routing of the phone
lines? Currently, the POTS lines come in to

Paging systems?
Does anyone have an (overhead) paging system that they like that works with SIP?
We've got a client with an old paging system that (supposedly) just takes an rj11 POTS connection, but when we put an SPA Cisco adapter on it, it doesn't auto-answer the call, so paging never happens.

Linksys SPA devices and CID
Hi list,
After successfully configuring Linksys SPA3000 and SPA3102 devices as
Asterisk PSTN gateways, the only thing I can't get working is the PSTN
Caller ID. The analog and SIP phones I've used can both display CIDs
for internal calls, while the analog model also displays CIDs
correctly when attached directly to the PSTN line. However, when PSTN
calls come in via the SPA

Help - is voip good for in-house calls?
Hi there everyone!
I work at an office where we plant to have about 12-15 phone
extensions. Costs of PBX are cheaper, but they are not expandable and,
as the office is brand new, I want to use all modern stuff.
My question is: if I buy 12-15 Grandstream Budgetone 101 phones, and
install and asterisk server, as well as a Digium TDM400 for POTS
access, will I have the same voice quality and

Fax with SPA-2000's?
I've been trying to get fax reception to work using an SPA-2000 to ring
the fax machine or modem that's taking fax calls. I was curious if
anyone else had tried something similar, and if so, had any luck
getting it to work reliably. I've been able to get it to work, but it
isn't reliable. (Pages/lines of black dots result more frequently than
not.) The incoming lines are FXO

setup questions- many users, little use
Hello All,
I?m on the technology committee for a fraternity at the University of Illinois.
We?re looking into moving from our current ?party line? (one line shared
between every two rooms) system to a PBX with voicemail in an effort to lower
our monthly phone bill and provide better communication services. We?ve
pretty much settled on Asterisk as we do not wish to rewire all of our pots

Ring power on Analog adapters
Hello,
I have a big old Fax machine that will only pick up a ring at 24volts and
20mA(minimum) ring[according to the technical specs manual]. None of my SIP
-> Analog phone adapters supply this:
Cisco - 50 volts
SIPURA - 70 volts
Handytone - who knows, but it doesn't work
can anyone tell me if there are any analog adapters or channel banks that
can send a 24V 20mA ring signal?

Analog FXO or IAX DIDS for new facility?
I am a Linux sysadmin who has been tasked with developing the phone
system for our nonprofit's new US headquarters building. We cannot
bring our legacy phone system with us, so I am building this completely
from scratch. I have already read "Asterisk: The Future of Telephony"
and done a fair amount of googling. I am completely sold on Asterisk,

Echo on SPA-3000 FXO
I've had an spa3k in service here at the house for a while now. After
some initial wrangling, it's been working okay. I've had to reboot it a
couple times and have noticed something rather annoying though.
My setup is pretty simple and, dare I say, common. I have the SPA-3000
"inline" between my incoming POTS line and the internal house phone. It's
setup to deliver

is Power fail transfer possible with asterisk?
Hi. I have a client who wants some way that his analog phones can
call out even after the power is out and the UPS has died -- some way
that a phone can connect directly to an fxo or some such when power is
gone. Any hardware around which can do this? I have heard of some
ATA's which do this, do any of the channel banks have this capability?
Thanks.

What ATA should I buy?
I have running * without any Digium (or any other) hardware. Now I need to connect analog FAX machine to it. I think that cheapest and easiest way is to buy ATA. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now, which ATA should I buy? Local dealer sells those four. I can buy something else (if there is any reason for it), but I prefer something of this.
One more question, can I plug two lines in any of

Paging systems?
You need more than an ATA. You need something with an FSO and FXO. I've used Linksys/SPA3102-3.3.6 and been happy with it.

TDM400P digium card
Okay everyone -
I'm moving away from using sipura 841 phones. I'm starting to test with
Polycom IP 501 phones. We plan to upgrade our server to a dual t1 but,
for now we have a digium tdm400P with 4 analog lines coming into it. So
my question is will upgrading the IP phones with my existing digium
tdm400 card be enough to satisfy my users ? or is it really a combo

Qs about FXO/FXS cards
Hello.
I am going to be putting together my first * system using FXO/FXS
interfaces. All the systems I have set up thus far have been pure VoIP
setups.
The system I need to set up should have 3 FXO interfaces and 1 FXS
interface, as well as several SIP phones. I have noticed people
complaining about Digium's TDM cards - are these isolated incidents or
are these cards unreliable? I intend to

Small office setup/using analog lines w/ Asterisk
Hi,
We recently tried installing Asterisk for a small office. We figured the
safest way to go would be to buy from someone who sold equipment
specifically for Asterisk and to use a consultant that they
recommended. However ... it didn't turn out so great. Sound quality is
terrible -- the echo is pretty bad, and there are popping noises, too.
Callers say that people on the Asterisk end

FXS or VOIP
Hi
I am setting up a phone system for a small office.
The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line.
There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office.
We have made no hardware purchase yet.
Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just
assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect
all the phones to a private ethernet network.
However, I see many people inquiring about FXS
