--timeout=... lesson learned...
I thought other might benefit from this lesson learned and thought it maybe
should be added to the man-pages.
I thought my network connection was glitchy and hence set rsync up for
--timeout=120 but I found out that I was actually causing the glitch with
this script:
#! /bin/sh -
while true; do rsync -avz --progress --timeout=120 --delete
/media/rsync_gb01/movies/ myserver:movies; sleep 120; done

lesson learned: script/runner does not abort on failed require
After a fresh installation of an application, some utility scripts
run with script/runner quietly aborted right after their start. No
error message whatsoever, just a new shell prompt. The reason was an
uninstalled dependecy, but that was difficult to determine because
the load failure was not reported:
% ruby script/runner ''require "foobarbaz"''

lesson learned: careful with :update in link_to_remote
A link_to_remote call was generating Ajax.Request instead of
Ajax.Updater. I couldn''t for the life of me understand why. There was
some extra indirection because I used there a helper of mine that
receives an image and generates a link_to_remote with image_tag and
some stuff for image rollover.

Up2date troubles
Hello all,
When I go to use up to date, it gets hung up on the
"Process Dialog"
Fetching http://mirror.centos.org/centos/3.1/
addon/i386//headers/header.info
It just stays there and doesn't move. This happens
every time I go to try an update my system.
Anyone else have this problem or is this a know bug?
Thanks
Dom

Closing a multi-session disk
I have a disk which is not being recognised for reading, and I suspect that it
may be a multi-session disk which has not been closed. K3b seems to agree
with me, since it lists it as an appendable data cd. However, I can't find
any way to close the session in k3b.
I thought I remembered that it was possible to do that in xcdroast - which is
almost certainly the application that burned

CentOS3.3
Hello all,
Just need some info to clarify something.
How is 3.3? By word of mouth I heard that their
may have been some issues with it. However I have not
heard anything here on this forum or any problems with
RHE3 U3. So I am assuming all is well.
Please verify if possible.
Thanks all

[LLVMdev] Kaleidescope lesson #3
I tried to compile and run the code from the Kaleidescope tutorial:
http://llvm.org/docs/tutorial/LangImpl3.html
While the compilation worked fine, the run did not. I'm using the
version of llvm from svn for 12/15/09. In gdb
I get this stack trace, and never see the "ready>" prompt. Apparently
it's dying inside constructors in the
headers somewhere.

Hello all,
Anyone know how to do autologon's in Linux console
mode?
Or maybe a web site that has directions that does.
Thanks all

RailsStory - lessons learned
After trying RailsStory for a few days, I have learned:
1. Rails testing support does not serve up static pages
2. RailsStory masks errors generated by the app under test
3. The masked errors are available in log/test
4. I should read log/test more often
See http://pastie.caboo.se/107876 for an example for points 2 and 3

cannot label a lightscribe disk
Hi
I am having problems labelling a lightscribe disc in a Lacie USB2.0
interface CD/DVDW.
I am running CENTOS 5.0
I can read and write cds and DVDs including DLs without any problems.
Both xcdroast and k3b detect the unit as TSSTcorp-CD/DVDW SH-S162L
Lacie's 4L software unfortunately doesn't detect any unit with either
the gui interface or the cli interface.
I loaded Lacie's

TRANS.TBL files on Win95 fileserver
I have a small LAN in my basement, with my PC running RH5 Linux and a Win95 PC
connected by Samba. Everything works fine, but when I smbmount a CD (burned
with xcdroast) from the Linux box (CD is in the Win95 machine) I do not get the
proper filenames. All files are uppercase, and the TRANS.TBL files appear to be
ignored. I have tried playing with name mangling, but it didn't help. Is this a

How do I blank or overwrite DVD-RW disks in CentOS 5?
I'm trying to use DVD-RW ("minus RW") disks in my LG GSA-4040B
drive. I can write a new disk just fine, but can't find any way to
blank or re-use a disk. When I run xcdroast and click on the "Blank
CD/DVD+-RW" button, I get "Error while blanking." Here is last part
of the dialog:
