converting NA/non-NA's to a binary variable
Dear R colleagues, I am trying to create a new column in a data frame, which converts values and NA's from another column into binary format. Essentially I need the NA's to become 1 and the rest to be 0. The code I wrote is returning the following error message: Error in if (mort[i, 4] != NA) mort[i, 8] <- 0 else if (mort[i, 4] == : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed

How to see data for a package built under Windows
I have followed the instructions on how to build a Windows package and everything seems to work EXCEPT that I can't see the data files that I have loaded into the data directory. I have placed the appropriate data in the data directory (as in the instructions). There are 3 data sets, which I can see when I use the command in R. Details below. I have searched everywhere to try to fix this, but

Exciting news about cAos & CentOS - Please read
I have the great pleasure to announce that the cAos Foundation has been given the right to an exhibitor booth at the upcoming LinuxWorld Expo in Boston, Massachusetts from February 15th - 17th. (More info here: http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/live/12/events/12BOS05A). This is a awesome opportunity to further cAos and CentOS linux. But I do not feel that we should give 1/2 an effort. I feel that

cAos/CentOS Users in Boston/New England area
I'm still looking for any volunteers in the Boston or New England areas that would be willing to help out at LinuxWorld in February. It goes Feb 14th - 17th, but the expo part is only 15th - 17th. If you can't come all three days, that's fine, but I would appreciate if there were a couple people that could come at least a day or two. Also, If you help out you get a 3 day pass to the

Wine fails to compile on Caos NSA 0.9 x86_64
I have tried compiling wine versions 1.2.1, 1.2.2, and 1.3.12 on caos NSA 0.9 x86_64. All versions have the same behavior when I try to compile them. During configuration I get configure: error: FreeType 32-bit development files not found. Fonts will not be built. Use the --without-freetype option if you really want this. This occurs even though freetype.i386, and freetype-devel.i386 are

should cAos block access to mirror.caosity.org?
Hey, Greg suggested that I take a straw poll. Should cAos take steps to prevent getting stuck with a big ISP bill in the future? For example, should cAos: a) for new installs, have the yum.conf point to public mirrors, rather than to mirror.caosity.org? b) make sure that "yum update" does not substitute a new yum.conf file that points only to mirror.caosity.org? c) allow public

rpm question
When I install some RPMS like openoffice 3 on centos x85_64 is there some command that will leave all the actual files alone (leave them installed) but just remove the RPM name from the RPM database so centos now things the packages are not installed? Reason is I was wanting to do this so a next yum update does not get all confused... and the yum update happens just like I never installed

Installing R help files (2.11 or later) when no internet access.
We work on a secure stand-alone server with no internet access, for security reasons. We are running Windows XP. SInce version 2.11 the R help files point straight to the internet. Is there any way we could have a local help that we could access on our server. Thanks in advance for any solutions Gillian Raab

tap1 problem
Hi Tinc Mailing-Group, Having set up the kernel correctly, and got tinc running successfully, I am now trying to get two VPNs running at once. Hence I need to have two ethertap devices ( /dev/tap0 and /dev/tap1 ). The first tap0 device was created thus: mknod -m 600 /dev/tap0 c 36 16 chown 0.0 /dev/tap0 The second tap1 device was created too: mknod -m 600 /dev/tap1 c 36 17 chown 0.0 /dev/tap1

single static ip address
Hi Tinc group, I have recently got an adsl connection at home, which only provides a single static ip address. I want to set up a tinc vpn from home to my workplace. I am trying to decide what hardware I need to do the above. At the moment, I am aware that I could use an Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem directly connected to a Linux vpn box at my home. ( Wall socket---adsl cable---Speedtouch---usb

OT: firewalls
What is everyone using for a firewall? I'm currently using www.astaro.com but their recent releases have soured me on ASL as a practical solution on my hardware (1.2MHz Athlon, 30G, and 256M). I only have 4 computers going through the firewall wall but it's consistently at 50% cpu load. There is very little network traffic (<10k bits per second on the wan connection, < 40k

samba 3.06rc2, suse 64amd and os2
Hi, I am having a lot of trouble with getting 0s2 to talk with samba. They seem to be making the right noises at handshake time, and seem to set up a session no problems (using ethereal, monitoring packets). However, when it comes to actually transferring information (such as doing a listing of a share from the os2 box) it crashes with the error: Open AndX Request, Path: \OSO001.MSG; Read

In case you were wondering...
Hi Tinc group, I sorted out my tinc configuration problem, by myself. It turns out that I did not leave the netmask large enough when ifconfig-ing the tap devices. Now that is done and it is working fine. Telnet, ftp, windows networking, etc all pass through it, as expected. Regards, Gillian. - Tinc: Discussion list about the tinc VPN daemon Archive:

a miracle..
Hi Tinc Mailing-Group, After all the suffering I have finally sorted out the firewall rules, which has made Tinc work properly. Hurray!!! Looking through the mail archives on the Tinc web-site I spotted the following ipchains ruleset, which I then applied to the 'forward' chain in my rc.firewall. The vpn now works properly.... /sbin/ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.1.0/24 -d

extended attributes, samba and OS2
Hi, I appologise if this totally irritates people as there seems to be quite a lot of info about this issue but a lot of it is quite old, for samba 2.x and kernels around 2.0 also. I have been beating my head against it for a little while - bumped into a dead end now ;( I am running centos-3 x86_64 (RH ES equiv) with samba 3.0.7-1 as the server, and OS2 as the client. Kernel is 2.4.21-20.EL.
