centos-yumconf purpose
Hello.
I did try to find out some information about centos-yumconf, but I didn't
find any.
I would like to know what centos-yumconf rpm is made for and what it does
(just overwrite the yum.conf file, or copy things from the original and
create a new one ?).
I dont' really understand the necessity of this package, because I thought
that the version upgrade was made through the $releasever

PXE boot Centos 4.0beta problems
Has anyone yet tried PXE booting the vmlinuz/initrd.img
set from Centos 4.0beta2?
I have a pxelinux setup that is booting 3.4 PXE images
fine, but the equivalent setup for 4.0beta loads the
kernel and then splashes the monitor full of multicolor
random characters. Not a good start to an install...
Anyone had luck? Any changes for PXE boots known for 4.0?
Thanks in advance.

CentOS-4 i386 errata: Configuration change for
centos-yumconf has been updated to include (but disable) all optional
centos repositories. This would allow a user to update / install from
an optional repository without needing to modify the configuration
files.
Example:
If you wanted to install a package named foo from the optional repositry
named centosplus, you would use the following command:
yum --enablerepo=centosplus install foo

Yum package requiring yumconf
Hi,
I need yum-arch on RHEL4, yum does not come with RHEL4 so I took the
CentOS package, but this one requires a yumconf package (satisfied by
centos-yumconf) which I thought was pretty strange.
Why does one require a yumconf package uberhaupt ? Why are we limiting a
generally useful package to CentOS (or a system that provides yumconf) ?
I know you can fix it in several ways, but I'm

Update of CentOS 4.0 to 4.3
I need to update a CentOS 4.0 system to CentOS 4.3. In my opinion, I
should start out with a "yum update yum centos-yumconf" and then follow
that with a "yum update". Does anyone have any other input as to what
other packages might be needed to be updated with yum and centos-yumconf
before the mass upgrade?
Thanks,
Barry

sendmail refusing incoming connections from outside
Hello.
I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing:
I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails.
when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail
service.
Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is
refused.
It also refuses connections from another host.

Using command line --file or -f
*What I want to do:
*Create a windows shortcut that will start the R gui **and**
simultaneously source a file
*What I have already tried:
*This almost works, but it's not the interactive R GUI:
R --no-save --sdi -file="C:\SomePath\example.R"
These open the R GUI, but doesn't recognize -f --f --file -file
RGUI --no-save --sdi -file="C:\SomePath\example.R"

Comming from WhiteBox Linux ...
Hello
several months ago I install WhiteBox Linux on several severs, I was
happy, not woriing about upgrading every 1,5 year as when I use RH 4.0,
6.0, 7.3, 9.0 ....
And then WhiteBox went black, WBEL updates release slowed down and
maintainer wont help form anybody. Just telling "If you want quick

CentOS 4 post installation of all packages
Hello.
I have installed CentOS 4 on a server in a hosting company and I realise
that not all packages have been installed.
I would like to install all packages exactly like it is when we click on
'install everything' from the CentOS 4 installation.
Is there a way of doing so with 'yum install' something ? My goal is to have
the exact replicate as the default CentOS 4

An "any" host source/destination
Just out of curiosity, I''m running shorewall on a machine that has 4
nic''s and 4 different VPN tunneled subnets.
When I want to define a service that is available from any source to a
certain destination, instead of making a matrix of all the different
combinations possible, is there an easier way?
Something like,: ACCEPT any loc tcp ssh

Migrate from RHAS 4 to CentOS 4.2
I have a SGI Altix 350 (ia64) that came with RHAS 4, but without any
paid support. I would like to migrate the server over to CentOS.
Here is what I've pieced together from some older posts by Johnny,
can someone confirm this should work? I know this is somewhat
covered in the FAQ, although both entries refer to FC or WBEL, which
already have built-in yum support.
