GridEngine-OpenSSH integration
Hi,
GridEngine (http://gridengine.sunsource.net, aka. SGE) is an opensource
batch system for clusters. They have an integration with SSH:
http://gridengine.sunsource.net/project/gridengine/howto/qrsh_ssh.html
The idea is that instead of using a modified rsh/rshd, they wanted to
OpenSSH. However, in order to provide full job control, they need to add a
few hooks in OpenSSH. Question:
- Is it OK

R and sun gridengine
Hi
I am looking for assistance with setting up R under Sun grid engine 6
(6.0-update7). I would like to set up transparent interactive access
to R using either a qlogin or qrsh solution. While it basically works
using either method, I reach the same sticking point. There seems
to be an issue with signalling or something, as R works ok until a
non-R command is typed in - eg "blah" - at

Problems with CentOS 3.3 Disk2 Iso Image?
Hi All,
I've downloaded this image (disk 2) from several sites, and it matches
the MD5 sum. Burning it to a CD gives no errors, but the disk is
failing the self-check at the start, and if I ignore that and try to
install I get random packages which "cannot be read". I know the burner
is OK, as I've burned other CDs on it just fine after burning the CentOS
ones. Any

OpenMPI not compiled with Torque support
The OpenMPI package that ships with CentOS 5.1 does not seem to be
compiled with torque support. It does, however, seem to be compiled
with gridengine and slurm support. Would it be possible to get this
changed?

ParallelR
Anyone using or has access to ParallelR? I was looking at the page and
found nothing really useful!

I want to see if I can run R on a cluster of workstation, and use
batch systems like Grid Engine or Xgrid:

Feature request: Integration with GridEngine
Hi,
I opened an enchancement request:
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1070
I am hoping that the patch can get into the standard
OpenSSH source tree, so that users just need to
download the latest version of OpenSSH tarball and
build an integrated sshd themselves.
Please let me know any further changes are needed.
Thanks,
-Ron

R with ATLAS avoids Linux cpu affinity
Hi all,
I have a problem with cpu affinity in my R-2.11.1 installation compiled against ATLAS running on a Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) cluster under GridEngine. I wish to use Grid Engine's core binding feature to bind user processes into the number of cores they request on the cluster, thus preventing badly behaved multi-threaded libraries from consuming more cores than requested. An example of

Sys.getenv(): Error in substring(x, m + 1L) : invalid multibyte string at '<ff>' if an environment variable contains \xFF
Tomas,
I think you're not addressing the actual issue which is a clear regression in Sys.getenv() [because it used to work and still works for single env var, but not a list] and the cryptic error due to that regression (caused by changes in R-devel). So in either case, Sys.getenv needs fixing (i.e., this should really go to the bugzilla). Its behavior is currently inconsistent.

IOwaits over NFS
Hello.
We have a number of Xen 3.4.2. boxes which have constant iowaits at around
10% with spikes up to 100% when accessing data over NFS. We have been
unable to nail down the issue. Any advice?

NFS/RDMA connection closed
Hi, we are having a problem with NFS using RDMA protocol over our FDR10
Infiniband network. I previously wrote to NFS mailing list about this,
so you may find our discussion there. I have taken some load off the
server which was using NFS for backups, and converted it to use SSH, but
we are still having critical problems with NFS clients losing connection
to the server, causing the clients

OT: SysAdmin Stories
Hello,
I'm compiling a collection of stories from the systems administrator
trenches. They can be short or long, funny or about a particularly
challenging problem or period, or even something that appeared very
technically challenging and ended up being something very simple. Stories
which are more political would be ok so long as they do not have an agenda
or can be interpreted as a

Grub Error 22; no Windows
Hello,
I have a GridEngine setup with 5 subnodes and two RAIDS attached. I backed
up the OS drive - 120GB - to an external hard drive - 500GB - using
ddrescue. The OS drive is partitioned as:
sda1 has the OS and is about 7 GB
sda2 has /var and is about 4 GB
sda3 has swap and is about 1 GB
After backing up, there were 4KB of errors, but all at the end of the disk
around 118GB. This used to be

Hi.
We have another leap second coming. Have past bugs with Centos and leap

worried?

Recover RAID
Hello Everyone,
First time CentOS poster :) I have CentOS 4 installed on the head node of a
Sun Gridengine cluster set up in a RAID. The head node has four hard
drives, and I assume that drives 1 and 2 are in a raid and then drives 3 and
4 are in another raid. I was trying to expand the OS partition on drive 1
because it was full. I took drive 1 out, put it in my Fedora 8 box as a

automated remote cloning
Good morning/day and Happy New Year.
We have a geographically distributed environment (marketing speak: cloud) where we regularly need to migrate individual systems to new hardware (for bigger disks or for better geographical placement, for example). We currently use Cobbler to do our base installs automatically and I am now looking at integrating Clonezilla with Cobbler. The goal is take an

filesize limitation in CentOS or exim?
Hallo,
today I had a surprising situation. Exim stopped. It's a German centos 5.3 64 Bit installation so the messages are partial in German.
Then I tried a restart:
[root at centos ~]# service exim restart
exim beenden: [FEHLGESCHLAGEN]
exim starten: /bin/bash: line 1: 6596 Die maximale Dateigr??e ist ?berschritten

dm-multipath use
Are folks in the Centos community succesfully using device-mapper-multipath?
I am looking to deploy it for error handling on our iSCSI setup but there
seems to be little traffic about this package on the Centos forums, as far
as I can tell, and there seems to be a number of small issues based on my
reading the dm-multipath developer lists and related resources.
