Im glancing through my email from the mailing list and
noticed a lot of talk about centos3.4. When will it be
released officially. I have read somewhere that RH is
releasing RHEL 4 pretty soon....Im in no need to upgrade
because my system is rather stable..just trying to get
a idea of what is going on....I know i should be keeping
up with the list...but it gets complicated at times.

rebuilding errata src rpms
I am running centos-3 and have a question about
rebuilding errata srpms from redhat.
Do all i have to do is run
rpmbuild --rebuild filename.src.rpm
to rebuild the rpm for use on my centos system?
I am talking about the src.rpms that dont have a
a filename change for example the rpm file name
change for kernels, etc that add c0 to the rpm filename
I am assuming that if the src.rpm filename

Have question about centOS-3.3
I am currently running centOS-3.1.
I have not received any package updates since Sept 1.
Is this in part due to creating new isos which would be named centOS-3.3.
How would I go about updating my system from centOS-3.1 to centOS-3.3,
or would I even need to and just keep downloading updates like i do now.
My system is running very smoothly with no errors or issues,
I was just wondering why

partition table Cent4RC1
I just installed CentRC1 on a Dell gx150 as a test. I'm running into the same problem I had with Fc3. I get a partition table error when trying to use ghost8 to create an image. I was considering putting Cent4 on a ProliantDL380, FC3 installed on that machine but wouldn't boot up, stuck on Grub. I had FC2 on the Proliant but when FC2 went to the 2.6 kernel, it hung up on the Nash prompt.

RHN-like system for CentOS?
Team,
Is anyone aware of a Red Hat Network alike system of server package
update status that could be adapted for CentOS3? I'm not interested in
the complete management aspect (channels, scheduling remote updates,
etc) but merely the ability to see your list of systems and determine
which are out of date with XXX packages. If you happen to manage a
large-ish number of RHES3 systems, you

Server-side printer settings?
Hi all!
I have a situtation that I want to get happening:
We have just installed a colour photocopier with duplexing at a client's
office. We're looking to have four printers pointing at this one device,
with the following settings (one for each printer):
* Black and White
* Black and White, Duplexed
* Colour
* Colour Duplexed
My question is, can we have server-side settings for

Re: CentOS 3.4 Single CD "Server" version
Hey,
Lance mentioned yum group install. This yum group
capability makes the "server" CD's more versatile than
the name implies -- you only need a broadband
connection to get any kind of CentOS install you want.
Start with a minimal install off the CD, and then use
the yum group install to conveniently get the same
install you could get off the 3 CD set (only more up
to date).

anaconda in 3.3?
Greetings,
I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended
in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble
isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around
leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the
anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a
duplicate of the

HELP! after power loss, system boots through mount of root fs then stalls
I run a RH 7.3 installation on a Compaq Proliant 6500 with dual pentium
266Mhz processors, approx. 630MB ram and a hardware SMART-2DH RAID
controller and array. All file systems are ext3.
The server has been in service for a couple of years now. From time to
time we will lose power in our office or have another situtation that
causes the server to lose power without a proper shutdown. We had

Samba 3.0alpha24 / OpenLDAP / support for groups broken?
Hello!
we are trying to get Samba 3.0a24 to work with OpenLDAP. After creating
the guest - user manually in the LDAP directory, everything seemed to
work fine. However we cannot create any group. The "net group map"
command runs without any error message, and states:
blue# ./net groupmap add rid=999 unixgroup=syadm
Successully added group syadm to the mapping db

Messing around with iptables
Hello all,
I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how
it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall
and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my
Desktop CentOS3 machine.
"iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP"
now the command seems to have went through because I
didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1
I am getting a response

performance counters
In order to be meaningful and usable together with other measuring methods,
their use in my opinion should impose as little overhead as possible. With that,
I wonder why per-cpu counters use atomic operations.
Thanks, Jan
