Changing booted Kernel with grub
Hi,
I have updated the kernel to 2.4.21-27.0.2 on Centos 3.4 (was 3.3 when
I did the kernel update) and have modified grub.conf to use the single
CPU kernel:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.

Kernel Panic on New Kernel Package
Hey all,
I have a P4 2.4 GHz CPU (hyper threading) and have been using the
2.4.21-20.EL.c0smp kernel and it works perfectly.
I installed the new kernel-smp (2.4.21-20.0.1.EL) kernel and it installed
flawlessly. However, every time I boot I get a kernel panic and I must
reboot to the older kernel.
The error I am getting is: (it seems to be failing on jbd.o and ext3.o)

Uniprocessor kernel booted after YUM update
We have Xeon IA32 dual-processor servers running Centos 3.5 in an HPC
batch-only compute grid configuration . We have yum update operating
automatically with default updates being applied weekly. Because of the
workload pattern of long-runing jobs, the servers tend to stay up
without a reboot for very long periods.
Recently, yum installed an updated kernel 2.4.21-32.0.1.ELsmp; when we

New kernel causes kernel panic/unable to mount root
Hi,
I've just moved over to an Opteron 246 dedicated server and have used
up2date to install the latest kernel (2.4.21-27.0.4.Elsmp). However, when
the machine reboots it never comes back up and according to the datacentre
technicians, this is what's happening:
VFS: Cannot open root device"806" or 08:06
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

kernel: Page has mapping still set - continues
Been having this problem, and posted about it before. Thinking it was a
memory issue, I've replaced all memory on the server. However, the
problem has continued.
Server is a Proliant DL380 (8GB RAM, 2 Xeon CPU), running CentOS 3.6, all
patches up-to-date. Kernel is 2.4.21-40.ELsmp (problem seems to have
first manifested on kernel 2.4.21-37.0.1.ELsmp). Disk is CCISS hardware

Hi all,
I am having problems to get the SeaLevel IO card to work with CentOS distro.
Basically the card is being recognised and shown by lspci BUT /proc/devices

Could someone tell me what/where infos are needed to get /proc/devices to be
updated.
The reason I require the /proc/devices infos is because I want to run a mknod

chattr +T not implemented?
We run a third party application that creates an inordinate amount of
subdirectories in a single directory. To speed up I/O, I wanted to set
the T attribute on the directory that will hold the subdirectories. The
"chattr +T /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607" command returns status 0, but
when I verify the setting, the attribute isn't there:
# lsattr -d /usr/local/lepus-bb/a-0607

kernel update with yum - no grub entry
Hi people
I am new to this list - actually I am one of (probably) a few who are
jumping ship from WBEL. I feel like a bit of a scab jumping over at this
time - but we all make mistakes eh?
I have installed CentOS and ran 'yum update' and installed everything it
prompted me for. After a reboot, I realised I had booted into the same
original kernel-2.4.21-20.EL.c0smp and not the updated

Problems with Lapack's eigen() on 64-bit
I'm only now realizing that we have severe problems with R on our
AMD 'Opteron' and 'Athlon64' clients running Redhat Enterprise
with all 64-bit libraries (AFAICS).
The Lapack problem happens for R-patched and R-devel both on
the Opteron and the Athlon64.
Here are platform details:

[PATCH] sched: provide scheduler_ipi() callback in response to smp_send_reschedule()
For future rework of try_to_wake_up() we'd like to push part of that
onto the CPU the task is actually going to run on, in order to do so we
need a generic callback from the existing scheduler IPI.
This patch introduces such a generic callback: scheduler_ipi() and
implements it as a NOP.
I visited existing smp_send_reschedule() implementations and tried to
add a call to scheduler_ipi() in
