Mysql B0rked - new install - confused
Hi Folks,
I've just done my first two Centos installs, having moved over from
WB..er..never mind.
I seem to be stuck with mysql - it's not installing; well, on one system it
starts but there's no /var/lib/mysql folder or socket file and on the other,
mysql just doesn't seem to be there at all.
I have done a 'yum remove mysql' and then a 'yum install mysql' on the

mdbtools on CentOS
Morning everyone,
I was hoping to use mdbtools to extract data from some Access databases
overnight. I have yum installed the tools from Dag and also downloaded and
(eventually!) compiled the latest release from the mdbtools web site, but I
either get 'buffer overflow' errors or no output from most of the tools. I
have been trying to cvs checkout the latest development version but

CentOS newbie just saying hello
Hi folks,
Just a quick hello having installed CentOS on my first box - an Acer
Altos G310 (P4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM with 70GB + 300GB storage. The 300GB
unit is a SATA disk which I hope to software (hardware!?) mirror - if
I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I
think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked
this out completely.

Possible mysql database corruption
Hi,
I posted earlier about 'sip show registry' not showing any trunks and there
seeming to be no attempt by one of my systems to register with our service
provider. Following some notes elsewhere I ran 'myisamchk *.MYI' on the
mysql database and it came up with an error in sip.MYI, which I repaired.
Unfortunately, still no registration so I backed up the database, deleted

Plan to free myself from AAH
Hi,
I'm actually using a slightly old version of AAH with Asterisk 1.2.1,
because at first install it was perfect for my moderate knowledge of
Asterisk. It is working well but I gradually introduced many changes to
dialplan during normal use and now I'm feeling like in a straitjacket!
Moreover I'd like to have the chance to upgrade Asterisk regularly.
I have not the experience to

Chrooting SFTP over SSH2
Hi,
As per the subject line - if I look up setting up chroot jails for SFTP over
SSH2 I'm led to various Web sites and patches and also to a CentOS wiki page
dated 2005, but what's the 'best' or 'correct' way to set this up for Centos
4.5 and 5?
Thanks

Cannot re-make a software raid pair
Apologies if you get this twice - the first one didn't seem to make it...
Hi Guys,
I have just replaced a faulty Max...woah, wait...this one's a Seagate... IDE
hard disk but I cannot remake the software raid pair.
The currently running disk is hda and I am trying to add back hdg - both are
master drives on separate controllers.
I have run fdisk on hdg and created the same partition

Samba print queues showing old jobs
We have a server running Centos-3 with all latest updates. The server
hosts 3 printers for us which are accessed by various Windows clients.
About 3 months ago we noticed that, after a cups update, if you looked
at the print queues in Windows they would show old jobs that had long
been printed. After a further cups update this quirk went away but it's
just come backs again - possibly after

Maria 10 breaks unixodbc mysql connector
What I have found is that the only new shared objects between the different

Blew away MySQL
Unfortunately, I blew MySQL away by replacing the MySQL control tables
with others and not making a copy of the folder.
My data is backed up, so that is not a problem, but I cannot reinstall
MySQL and create the mysql directory with the control tables (e.g. user,
db, host). I have run "yum remove mysql" and "yum install mysql" and
"yum install mysql-server" and

upgrading Mysql 5.0.95
Hi All,
I'm getting things ready to upgrade my aging installation of MySQL
5.0.95 on my CentOS 5 LAMP server. With the impending EOL date of 3.31
fast approaching my sense of doom and urgency is increasing.
I see that the necessary packages are available in @base and @updates -
mysql51 and mysql55 respectively but from all the information I've read
on the matter so far I'm left with

MySQL on CentOS 6 broken? No 'mysql' database?
Hi Guys,
I installed CentOS 6 and installed 'yum install mysql mysql-devel mysql-server'

/usr/libexec/mysqld: Table 'mysql.plugin' doesn't exist

Maria 10 breaks unixodbc mysql connector
I think the solution may exist.
The compatibility of mysql-connector-odbc with maria may just means the
driver can access the mariadb - but my experience suggests not live on the
same host.
maria has its own connector:
https://downloads.mariadb.org/connector-odbc/
it does not look like this is in the sig, so I'll have to turn to the maria
repo.
I'll try replacing the driver first, then

OFF Topic: mysql installation problem
Hi All:
I'm trying to get mysql 5 installed on my CentOS 4.6 installation. I've
installed mysql using yum:
yum -y install perl-DBD-MySQL mysql-server mysql php-mysql
mod_auth_mysql phpmyadmin mysqlclient
Yum says it installed fine:

Install and Run mysql 4.x
You know, I suppose I could simply install the tarball, I've
successfully installed mysql in the past that way. However, I thought
I'd use yum, install the redhat/CentOS way, and I am amazed how hard
it is to get this thing working. I admit to not having become all
that familiar with mysql.
Anyway, when I run
# mysql_install_db --user=mysql
I get a bunch of errors:

yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
Hi all,
I have a question related to yum groupinstall.
I just tried a:
yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
I expected that I would end up with a MySQL Database server,
but it installed a bunch of .rpms *except* mysql-server. No
big deal, I'm just curious if it was intended this way or not,
that's all.
Thank you and,
Have a nice evening everyone,
