Changing booted Kernel with grub
Hi,
I have updated the kernel to 2.4.21-27.0.2 on Centos 3.4 (was 3.3 when
I did the kernel update) and have modified grub.conf to use the single
CPU kernel:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.

CentOS-4 i386 errata: Configuration change for
centos-yumconf has been updated to include (but disable) all optional
centos repositories. This would allow a user to update / install from
an optional repository without needing to modify the configuration
files.
Example:
If you wanted to install a package named foo from the optional repositry
named centosplus, you would use the following command:
yum --enablerepo=centosplus install foo

upgrade RH9?
Can you upgrade RH9 to Centos, or do you have to do a complete install?
Is there an iso with a .ks file on it to do a remote install?

RHEL question
I work for a small company, and we're running CentOS on our servers. We
are looking to possibly move our most critical servers to RHEL. We
currently use apt to deploy software upgrades to our servers. I have a
question about RHEL subscriptions that they don't seem to be able to
answer for me. If you have an RHEL subscription, do you have access to
manually download the RPMs? We

Upgrade from RH-9 to CentOS-3.1, any issues?
Greetings,
I've got 4 Redhat-9 servers in a production environment and I don't feel
like moving to RHEL. So I'm testing CentOS-3.1 now. So far so good.
I'd like to get these servers moved over in the next month or so to a
better "supported" OS.
Are there any issues I should be aware of in upgrades these RH-9 boxes?
Should I be able to just stick in the Centos-3.1

New to CentOS
Hi,
I have recently discovered CentOS after it was recommended to me in one
of the forums that I participate in..
Just interested to find out how long after RH release an update does it
take for it to get released for CentOS?
I am downloading the ISO's now and hope to have a play with CentOS over
the weekend.. :)

What if this happens?
Does anyone have concern about this? What if Redhat stops giving SRPMS for
new releases and updates in public? If you buy a subscription to RHEL AS and
they have to give you the SRPMS because of GPL agreement can that person
provide those SRPMS to public again because of GPL? They claim they are
premium OpenSource company but they are still a company and for them money
is bottom line.

anaconda in 3.3?
Greetings,
I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended
in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble
isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around
leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the
anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a
duplicate of the

John Newbin has been working on a migration center.
It may have some useful information; get it here:

yum stalls <?>
I just installed a fresh 3.3 system (because those are the ISO's I had on
hand). Upon running yum update, it starts to download headers and then
stalls. I hit Ctl-C and it continues to download about 4-5 more headers and
stalls. I hit Ctl-C again and it pulls a few more headers. Anyone seen
this and/or know how to fix it?
TIA

There is an even easier way -- tell cron to apply YUM
updates every day.
There is a HowTo on the cAos site here:

New kernel released for testing
There is a new updated kernel for centos 3.1 that fixes a security issue.
As I have not had time to test this build I am releasing it for testing
for 24 hours to pick up any problems before general release.
It is available at :-
http://caos2.caosity.org:/centos/3.1/updates/i386/RPMS/
The version is 2.4.21-15.0.2.el.c0
Please install and test these packages, they are as yet unsigned and not

hddtemp package
Just idle curiosity. I've always been fond of the simple hddtemp
utility. I tried 'yum install hddtemp' (I have dag in my repos), but
it was not found. Google found it on '/pub/dag/dries/packages...'. So
I downloaded it, installed (Centos4), and it works just fine.
Just wondering why it's not in the dag el4 repo?

kickstart from cd
Howdy,
Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a
kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the
files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the
ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http;
just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated,

confession
Gang,
I've got to admit, what really sold me on debian was apt-get. And
I've been resisting getting up to speed with yum. So, can any of ya
point me to a good starter page, maybe one with migrators like me in
mind? Many thanks.
