3.3 -> 3.4 transition
maybe some of the 3.4 beta discussion has covered this, i wasn't watching
it too closely.
what is going to be the process to convert a system from 3.3 to 3.4?
will a simple yum update work? or do we have to do something more
intentional to make it happen? how does redhat handle u3->u4 updates? i
assume that since u4 has been published that security patches from rh will
only apply to

Alternative architecture CentOS 3 builds?
Hi there.
Although RHEL 3 is available for several different architectures,
CentOS appears to only be available for the i386 architecture. Are
alternative architecture rebuilds outside the scope of the CentOS
project, or is there some other specific reason for that?
If one wanted to rebuild CentOS for, let's say the AMD64
architecture, would that be a difficult process, or is it just

Greetings,
4 belated x86_64 updates here for CentOS-3 (I just got my 64-bit
development boxes back from a show). They'll be hitting the mirrors
eventually. Future updates will be much more timely.

kernel source kernel-devel-smp-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL RPM
Dear list,
for the purpose of installing a qlogic driver into my system, I need the
exact kernel source version mentioned above. The kernel version is a
dependency for the cluster suite (for centos4) package, which has been
installed using yum (yum install cman gfs [...]).
Where can I get the kernel source for this exact version? The only one
which is offered to me by yum is version

Identify motherboard from SSH login
Hi,
I have CentOS 4.4 installed on a system at an ISP and I am trying to setup
lm_sensors. It would be a lot easier to setup if I knew what motherboard I was
using! :-)
Is there any way of identifying the motherboard of a system remotely (via SSH)?
Many thanks

Shadow Copy Client blank, with error in logs
One computer will show the previous versions of files just fine, but
every other computer I've installed the Microsoft Shadow Copy Client on
will not show any previous versions. The Previous Versions tab is just
blank. In the samba log, I get this:

Does Samba/Winbind not follow nested groups in AD?!?
Here's the situation: We have users who are members of groups and those
groups are sometimes members of a 2nd level of groups. If a folder has
permissions assigned to a 2nd level group, then the user can not access
the share. Doing a "getent group | grep user | grep 2nd_level_group"
also returns nothing. Samba seems to not be recognizing that a user is
a member of a group under

Release of centos-3.3 ISP bill
It turns out that the release of Centos-3.3 was so popular, that it threw us
way over the threshold of our ISP's, and now we are stuck with a _very_ large
bill (as in an estimated 6TB of transfers). While in one hand I am ecstatic
that we are so successful, but on the other hand, that is coming out of the
developers pockets. The developers should be the last ones footing these
bills (and this

what OS do you use for Samba?
I'm trying to decide on a linux distro to use for our enterprise Samba
server. I like that there is a deb repo for Debian from samba.org, but
I'm more comfortable with CentOS (Redhat). I just want to be sure I
have a well supported Samba server and I need at least the 3.0.20
version so I can use the "inherit owner" property. I also want
automatic updates for bugfixes and

SuperServer 6024H-82R and Centos 3.3
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any familiarity with this
server? It uses the Super X6DH8-G2 motherboard. Currently, we've added an
Adaptec 2120S Ultra320 RAID PCI Controller Card to get RAID 5 capability. The
installation bombs and from what I can tell it looks like we're getting SCSI
resets or the controller is going offline maybe. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.

Updating on CentOS-3.3
Sorry to be beating a dead horse to death here... but... in the
archives, mostly the FAQ is mentioned, but the FAQ seems to be 'coming
soon'. :)
I just did a clean install of 3.3. I am operating from the command line.
I first mistakenly ran.. been there done that on WhiteBox as well. :(
rpm --import /usr/share/rhn/RPM-GPG-KEY
Got what I understand now is the expected errors.

Mixed Network Diagnostics
Hi Folks,
I emailed earlier about some samba / network issues we are having with
in a mixed OS environment. I believe that our problem might be being
caused by possible multiple Browse Masters in the windows machines.
What I am trying to find is a good way to help determine this. I'm not
a windows guru, and have not been able to find any browse master
settings on the XP systems. I

Group Policy install MSI from Samba share
I have a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain and I need to create a
group policy to assign an msi install to a computer. This has always
worked fine on a Windows share, but now the install fails after moving
to a Samba file server. I'm guessing it's some sort of permissions
issue. Does anyone know how to make this work?
