Best way to add/update an installation
In an effort to prevent getting many minutes into an installation only to have a CD read fail (I did verify the CD's first), I did a minimal install. Can I use the minimal install to add the necessay packages for a HTTP server and graphical interface? Todd -- Ariste Software 200 D Street Ext Petaluma, CA 94952 (707) 773-4523

CentOS-4 RC1 (i386) Bugfixes
All, There are 3 bugfix updates for CentOS-4 (RC1). 1. mod_perl needed to be recompiled after the RH errata for perl was incorporated, but it was not flagged by the perl update. ( https://bugzilla.caosity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=803 ) (thanks Joshua Hirsh) 2. httpd identified itself as Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server instead of CentOS ( https://bugzilla.caosity.org/show_bug.cgi?id=806 ) (thanks

WhiteBox 4 -> CentOS4.1 - Yum
Hi Is it possible to swap the yum.conf from my centos box onto my whitebox box and have the whitebox machine use centos updates through yum? CentOS seems further ahead and far quicker at roll outs than whitebox? thanks

Comming from WhiteBox Linux ...
Hello several months ago I install WhiteBox Linux on several severs, I was happy, not woriing about upgrading every 1,5 year as when I use RH 4.0, 6.0, 7.3, 9.0 .... And then WhiteBox went black, WBEL updates release slowed down and maintainer wont help form anybody. Just telling "If you want quick updates, build it yourself.". I prefer wasting time for customizations and/or

Possible new CentOS user (currently WBEL)
Hi, For a few months i've been using WhiteBox Enterprise Linux. In fact, i've migrated all my companie's servers (about 20) to this RHEL distro like. Well, it's not that i'm not satisfied, but WBEL is a one man show and that causes me some preocupation. And besides, it seems to me that it can't stand up to the rythm RHEL evolves. That's why i'm writing to you,

Moving data between R and Matlab back and forth?
Hi to the list, I am trying to find a way to painlessly move structured data back and forth between R and Matlab (also Octave). For this purpose I found the R.matlab package great help. I wish to use a Matlab -v6 MAT file as an intermediary format, because it is well read by both Matlab and Octave. It is also well read by 'readMat' function in R.matlab package, but that is where I run

Moving from whitebox 4.2 to centos
I've been following the faq for moving from whitebox to centos (which admittedly is for release 3, but using the equivalent release 4 files) and keep getting stuck when installing the centos-release-4-2.1 rpm which says it should replace whitebox-release4.2 However this is not happening, giving me the following rpm -Uvh

Poblem with Centos Logos on X bootup...conversion from whitebox to centos.
Hello all I migrated my Centos installation from a whitebox install few months ago. Only one minor issue...on booting up X, the login screen shows whitebox logos. At that time, I did not tackle it because I assumed that it will automatically be upgraded with yum...and again it was not essential to running the OS. What whitebox rpms do I need to substitute with centos ones to correct this

Python/sqlite date time problems.
Bear with me, this is CentOS related. :) I have a python CGI that's behaving weirldy on Whitebox systems that've been switched over to CentOS 4 (ages ago, no other problems to speak of aside from this one). I've broken the problem down to a minimal test case... 1. Create a small database # sqlite3 /tmp/testcase.db 'CREATE TABLE testtable ( date date primary key unique, name

3Ware 9650SE tuning advice
Hello fellow sysadmins! I've assembled a whitebox system with a SuperMicro motherboard, case, 8GB of memory and a single quad core Xeon processor. I have two 9650SE-8LPML cards (8 ports each) in each server with 12 1TB SATA drives total. Three drives per "lane" on each card. CentOS 5.2 x86_64. I'm looking for advice on tuning this thing for performance. Especially for the

Multiple LUN support
Hi all... I have a scsi Tape library. Centos only sees the tape drive portion of the library. I need to enable Multiple LUN support to get the library and tape drive recognized. I am looking for some help enabling multiple lun support in Centos 4. I had a procedure on how to do this in the 2.4 kernel but it doesn't seem to work in the 2.6. Any help would be appreciated. OCFS & Red Hat AS 4
I'm attempting to build the inexpensive 10g RAC cluster as outlined in Jeffrey Hunter's paper "Build Your Own Oracle RAC 10g Clulster on Linux and FireWire". I've got the hardware working and everything is looking good up to the step where I need to download and install OCFS. I'm using WhiteBox Linux v. 4, which is RedHat AS 4 and based on 2.6 kernel. I did find an

[PATCH] gpu: Consistently use octal not symbolic permissions
There is currently a mixture of octal and symbolic permissions uses in files in drivers/gpu/drm and one file in drivers/gpu. There are ~270 existing octal uses and ~115 S_<FOO> uses. Convert all the S_<FOO> symbolic permissions to their octal equivalents as using octal and not symbolic permissions is preferred by many as more readable. see: https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/8/2/1945 Done
