adding copies of rows toa data frame based upon start and end dates
Hello All and thanks in advance for any advice.
I have a data frame with rows corresponding radio-collared animals (see
sample data below). There is a start date (DATESTART), and end date
(DATEEND), and the number of days on air (DAYSONAIR). What I would like to
do is add a column called DATE to so that each row ID has a row for every
day that the radio collar was on the air while copying all

3.0.6 and pam_winbind problems (sernet)?
Recently I upgraded a server from samba 3.0.2a to 3.0.6, and now apache
won't authenticate properly with pam_winbind. Winbind's been restarted,
apache has been restarted, for grins I even rebooted the server.

Moving from whitebox 4.2 to centos
I've been following the faq for moving from whitebox to centos (which
admittedly is for release 3, but using the equivalent release 4 files)
and keep getting stuck when installing the centos-release-4-2.1 rpm
which says it should replace whitebox-release4.2
However this is not happening, giving me the following

Proposal to add preprocessor warning for unused command line macros
This is a proposal for either adding a new, or updating an existing
command line option such that a diagnostic can optionally be produced
for unused -D macros.
Long-lived large projects with thousands of files and many
contributors have a tendency to accumulate build options over time. As
time passes some build options like macros become replaced, obsolete,
or simply no longer used.

"old" rpm version package handling broken!? (SuSE8)
Hi!
Using (among others) the pretty old SuSE8.1, I cant get puppet to
install packages.
The rpm programms bahaviour was changed somewhen between versions 3 and
4 (sry, donĀ“t know exactly when) and the old version does not support
the "--nosignature" and "--nodigest" params and "--oldpackage" is purely
an update parameter so when trying to install a package I

compiz --replace ccp & AND libIndirectGL.so.1- Conundrum
Listmates,
I am narrowing down the reason that compiz will not autostart on my
Toshiba P35 laptop running openSuSE 10.3.
There seems to be a mutual exclusion between being able to do manual
start with "compiz --replace ccp &" and having compiz start at all with
"libIndirectGL.so.1" present in /usr/lib.
To get compiz to start on my system, I must manually rename the

Hangup conundrum with RxFAX
Heres something that's making me scratch my head... I'm using RxFAX on
ISDN lines and in-general it's going well.
However, there seems to be a case when the fax doesn't get delivered, but
looking through the CDRs it seems that the call happened, RxFAX was
executed .. time passed (1-2+ minutes) then hangup.
I'm wondering if some FAX machines just hangup after the call

FC4 + nut => shutdown sequence conundrum
Summary
=======
I have encountered problems with the nut shutdown sequence using the
directory structure in the packages for Fedora Core 4.
These problems occur when the /var file system is mounted as a separate
volume.
I have done some investigation and think that I have an answer, but I need
verification from someone who has more experience from nut on a wider
variety of systems.
I want to

Password Length Conundrum
I've jsut installed Samba-2.2.4, from source on a Solaris 2.6 box.
I'm looking to upgrade from some 2.0.x versions I'm running.
I've createed a password entry using smbpasswd -a and added my password.
My password has 9 characters in it. Using smbclient on the Solaris box, I
can access the share, but I can't from Win95 or Win2000 clients
(encryption is on).
If I try to access

Can't Install Samba 3.0.14a
I'm running FC3 with its bundled samba 3.0.11-fc3, and I'm trying to
update to 3.0.14a. I've downloaded the rpms from samba.org, and (I
think) I've backed up the original samba installation--/etc/samba--and
I've stopped smb (I had to kill the smbd and nmbd processes;
"/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop" didn't work). I've also withdrawn (make
uninstall) an

Simple indexing conundrum
My apologies in advance for my thickness but I can't seem to solve the
following, seemingly simple, data manipulation problem:
I have a data frame that contains multiple factors and multiple
continuous response variables, but duplicates of some factor
combinations. The duplicates contain bad data, so I would like to
eliminate the duplicates. I would like to retain the entire rows

Centos and Software RAID
I purchased an Intel D945GNT motherboard and it comes in the BIOS with
an option to create a RAID 0 or RAID 1 volumes using my existing two
SATA disks. However when installing Centos 4.3 x86_64 I see the the
installer recognices the two drives and does not "see" the RAID 0.
Is that ok?
Should I disable the RAID in the BIOS and then go for a LVM+RAID 0
setup in the installer ?

Best way to add/update an installation
In an effort to prevent getting many minutes into an installation only
to have a CD read fail (I did verify the CD's first), I did a minimal
install. Can I use the minimal install to add the necessay packages for
a HTTP server and graphical interface?

Upgrade 0.9.8 to 0.9.12 issues
Hi all
Anything special I need to do upgrading from 0.9.8 to 0.9.12?
I run a few important Win apps and a recent change lost such things as
virtual windows (black boxes) and all the text was super small greeked
or non existent. Going back to 0.9.8 showed no permanent damage. Winecfg
was impossible to read/use.
Do I need to run wineprefixcreate? Didnt see anything in the winehq FAQ

Thunderbird in CentOS 7.4
With the current Thunderbird I can not connect to one of my IMAP servers
that uses a self-signed cert. Virtually identical IMAP servers that use
CA signed certs work
I was a bit out of date when I updated to 7.4 and was running
Thunderbird 45.6.x and it worked.
When I connected from evolution (which I do not like) it worked.
When I connected with my laptop still running 45.6.x it works.

New rpm, same name, how to update
I have to build my own rpms for the HIPL project. I update my copy of
the code and make rpm.
Thing is the rpm name never changes from patch to patch.
Is there a way to have yum apply the new code as an update and not have
to erase then install?

FYI - Why RPMs are important
Someone emailed me directly when I was asking about the 8.0 RPMs, and why I didn't just compile it. Due to the production nature of our servers which run practially 24/7, I can do an "rpm -Uhv samba.rpm" and then do an "smb restart" with very little impact. If I move to non-rpm versions, I am forced to compile first, remove the RPM, which is a longer downtime, then install
