Upgrade from RH-9 to CentOS-3.1, any issues?
Greetings, I've got 4 Redhat-9 servers in a production environment and I don't feel like moving to RHEL. So I'm testing CentOS-3.1 now. So far so good. I'd like to get these servers moved over in the next month or so to a better "supported" OS. Are there any issues I should be aware of in upgrades these RH-9 boxes? Should I be able to just stick in the Centos-3.1

How to send in donations via check? and some other suggestions.
Greetings. I have just successfully updated a RH-9 file server to CentOS-3.1. I'm VERY impressed. I have a client who has 4 Redhat servers (1 x 7.3 and 3 x 9.0) that I would like to migrate to CentOS-3.1. Question: My client is willing to send a donation for these boxes but they just want to send you (caosity.org) a check that will cover the next couple of years. Who do we make the

New Help Site - cut down on Mailing List questions
This is a re-post as it was pointed out that I replied to a different thread instead of creating a new post. Sorry for the additional traffic. Mike Dear All, I understand the excitement surrounding a service like Asterisk, and how easy it is to jump in and ask a heap of questions. I also know how frustrating it can be dealing with a 200+ post per day mailing list as one of the question

I'm gonna kill YUM (mailing list version ;-) )
Hi all. Most of you already know about my problems (well, my computer's problems ;-) ), since we've been discussing on the forum. Hughesjr recommended me to post here, so let's see, I have my faith on you. I have a dedicated server with RH9 that I upgraded to CentOS 3.4 . Everything ok, but after the first yum upgrade and reboot I get this when I try to do a yum update: yum

yum stalls <?>
I just installed a fresh 3.3 system (because those are the ISO's I had on hand). Upon running yum update, it starts to download headers and then stalls. I hit Ctl-C and it continues to download about 4-5 more headers and stalls. I hit Ctl-C again and it pulls a few more headers. Anyone seen this and/or know how to fix it? TIA Mike

How can I access the list argument within a "for" function call
Greetings, I have been playing around with the R/Parallel package, which can farm out the computation of a for-loop among multiple worker processes. Each worker gets a chunk of the for-loop iterations; for example, if you have two workers and for(x in 1:1000){...}, one worker would typically get iterations 1:500, while the second does 501:1000. I would like to be able to preallocate matrices to

Custom kernel needed for ndiswrapper? (for Linksys WPC54G wireless pcmcia)
Greetings: I'm just installed Centos-4 on an IBM T-21 laptop. So far so good. Now I'd like to pop in a wireless lan adapter. I'm looking at a buying a Linksys WPC54G adapter (although I haven't done so yet). After doing some searching, it looks like the best way to get this card working is via ndiswrapper [http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net] and then to use Windoze

centos-announce list?
Any chance we can set up a low-volume "centos-announce" list so that we all don't have to read all of these non-Centos-specific E-mail threads about people figuring out how to admin a Linux box when all we need to know is when major releases/milestones/news items are available? Regards, -Tom

anaconda in 3.3?
Greetings, I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a duplicate of the

permanent ulimit -n on CentOS 3.4
Hi! Question from the novice. I have to permanently increase number of opened files ( ulimit -n 16384 and ulimit -Hn 16384) for some application. I did custom kernel based on https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-3-Manual/sysadmin-guide/s1-custom-kernel-modularized.html and application documentation ( written for RH 9), no error during all makes but I have panic during the

3Ware Escalade 9500S controller question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings folks, I'm currently redoing my home server as one of the hard drives in my RAID-1 array went down and I'm going to replace the lot of it with a 3Ware Escalade 9500S RAID capable card and four Seagate 200GB SATA drives. These drives are supposedly the coolest and quietest SATA drives available (better than the Maxtors I had anyway)

NNTP versus web forums
I see that a number of questions are being answered on the new web forum that is now part of the centos site. And the mailing lists So now there are two places to search, both the forum and the mailing list archives. This is just doubles the work required to follow along or find a solution. I know NNTP isn't sexy, it doesn't allow graphics in posts, it doesn't have person

Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone, I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed flawlessly :) Any of my whitebox friends still around here? I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting involved with CentOS. -- Donavan Nelson donavan at whiteboxlinux.net http://whiteboxlinux.net

"too little data" error still occurring in 1.0.10
Greetings- I'm running dovecot 1.0.10, but am seeing the "too little data" error that was supposedly fixed in 1.0.9. Not sure how long it's been going on. I have a straightforward mbox setup, and am using Thunderbird to check my inbox. It can't read the box. The log fills up with these messages: Feb 8 23:24:43 chilled dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<mike>,

CentOS 3.4 on Compaq Proliant
I am trying to install CentOS 3.4 on a Compaq Proliant 1600, and it hangs on probing monitor type when anaconda starts. I have tried running 'linux text' and manually installing drivers from the f2 options screen. Any ideas? Forgive me if this is an unbearably simple question, but I am new to linux. Mike

Trouble installing Rcpp on AIX - missing "execinfo.h"
Greetings, When I try "install.packages('Rcpp')" it fails when compiling api.cpp (line 39). This is Rcpp 0.11.3. I searched my filesystem, and indeed I do not have execinfo.h anywhere. After some effort, I got R build on AIX. Now I am trying to build the packages I need. Rcpp is crucial. I first build R with the native IBM XL compilers, and Rcpp wouldn't build. That was

Covert list of list to dataframe for export or outputting by(test) output
Greetings, I am running a buch of wilcox tests and need to be able to rapidly export the results into a csv file. I have attached example code as well as my attempts to get what I need. I have tried unlist, cbind, rbind etc but I am obvously missing something simple. FYI I am actually running about 50 WRS tests per dataset, this is just an example. Thanks 10^6 Mike AKCCR <-
