Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc
Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc? If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old) install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations (e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under 4.1. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... yum stalls <?>
I just installed a fresh 3.3 system (because those are the ISO's I had on hand). Upon running yum update, it starts to download headers and then stalls. I hit Ctl-C and it continues to download about 4-5 more headers and stalls. I hit Ctl-C again and it pulls a few more headers. Anyone seen this and/or know how to fix it? TIA Mike

Bootable ISO with extra data outside the ISO?
Sorry if this is a total noob question... I've searched the archives and haven't turned up much. Not turning up much on the web in general, either. I'm working on a project and I'd like to create a Linux bootable ISO disc with an extra chunk of data **outside** the ISO space. This chunk of data might be a 10MB tar/zip. The goal would be to boot into Linux in RAM off the disc

Running with an iso image
Hi, I am trying to run a program (Diablo 2) from an iso image of the disc rather than the disc itself. I used mkisofs to create the image, then I mounted it on /mnt/virtualcd. I can't get Diablo 2 to recognize it, though. First I create a new drive in winecfg, e:, and made that /mnt/virtualcd, but when I ran Diablo 2 it said it couldn't detect the CD. So then I removed e: and changed

different iso's
I am wondering if there are any plans to release a large dvd iso of the centos distribution? dvd burners are taking off and this would be a good addition. Instead of three cd iso's one big dvd iso. -- My "Foundation" verse: Isa 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input "ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like "Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is almost completely automated. Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS

6.1-BETA4-i386-disc2.iso - only usr/share/doc, no usr/src?
Does the 6.1-BETA4-i386-disc2.iso contain only usr/share/doc, or for some reason i am unable to see anything else? I was looking for usr/src (and for a odd chance to have usr/ports); i suppose those two trees would be available somewhere on some disc for RELENG_6_1. I mounted the image as ... mdconfig -a -t vnode -f /path/to/6.1-BETA4-i386-disc2.iso -u 0 mount -t cd9660 /dev/md0 /mnt ...

Can''t boot HVM Win2k8 R2 x64 DVD ISO (Viridian?)
Hi all, I''m stuck with a peculiar problem. I have CentOS 5.5 and Xen. I have numerous Windows 2003 guests and never had this problem. An application requires SQL server 2008 which is requiring Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the 2.8 Gig install DVD ISO. I create a new guest and connect the ISO as hdc. The system starts and says "Starting Windows" but hangs and no

How to load an ISO as a “CD” to satisfy “insert CD” prompt?
I am trying to run my own legal copy of Propellerhead (http://www.propellerheads.se/) Reason 2.5 through Wine on latest Ubuntu on Asus (http://www.asus.com/) netbook, which has no optical drive. When the application starts, it asks me to ?Please insert the CD?, which I thought I knew how to do because after all, I had to mount the one of the three ISOs to start the installation. I run this

migrating servers (advice)
Hi, I'm about to copy the contents of one server onto another. The "plan" that I've come up with is: 1) boot the new server with a live disc, partition accordingly 2) a big tar-over-ssh for the /boot, and root partitions (that's all there is) 3) adjust the fstab so that it'll find the new scsi partitions vs. the old ATA ones. 3) then chroot into the new system

How to disconnect the ISO image using virsh
Hello, I can attach disc ISO image to cd-rom from virsh. And I can replace the ISO image from disc1 to disc2 using the 2nd example. (example) attach-disk guest01 /root/disc1.iso hdc --driver file --type cdrom --mode readonly attach-disk guest01 /root/disc2.iso hdc --driver file --type cdrom --mode readonly My question is, how can I disconnect the image from the cdrom drive using virsh. Created a DVD from Gnome Desktop -CentOS-5.3
I am trying to put the dvd iso image of CentOS-5.4 onto a DVD. I have an LG multi-writer installed. I have used this device on this host to created CDs in the past but this is my first attempt at creating a dvd. When I put a blank DVD-R media in the drive then I see a desktop icon for "CD-ROM Disc" created. When I open the bittorent folder and click on the iso image

Running games from the ISO
Hi. I've downloaded the original Red Alert Command & Conquer from the company's website -- they're being very generous and giving the old game away for free, presumably to try to drum up sales for the new RA game (which does look very good). The download consists of two ISOs; one for the Allied missions and one for the Soviets, which I've burnt to disc, and the game plays

KRNLINUX? CPIOLINUX?
Does anyone think that it might be a worth-while effort to code a Syslinux variant which is a "Linux x86 kernel"-format binary and whose "initrd" is a simple cpio archive which will comprise the root filesystem? One can have a disk image with an MBR, partition table, partition, filesystem on that partition, SYSLINUX on that filesystem, config-file and modules in that

idea: "hybrid" iso images?
In order to create a bootable CentOS installation USB thumb drive, there are several steps one must follow.? The process often involves using a Windows box, which can be kinda annoying. The Linux Mint distro has what they call a "Hybrid" iso image. ?(see: ? http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744 ) This image can be written to a thumb drive and used for installation simply by

Check version from installer disc
Is there some way to see what version will be installed by an installation disc? I made a USB installer and I forgot whether it's CentOS 7.3 or 7.5. Short of running the whole installer and seeing what happens, I can't see any way to get this info from within Anaconda.
