Removing silence at the start and end of sample encoded
Hi,
Speex is great!
We are using it to compress hundreds of megabytes of speech for use in our
application that trains people in resuscitation. The previous version of our
product used Ogg Vorbis, but after switching to Speex, we achieve fantastic
compression, while retaining super quality. That allows us to cram more
translated versions of the software onto each CD-ROM, making everything

Working Wellgate *SIP* 38xx/35xx hardware anyone?
I'm loosing hair at cosmic speed now for the past 10 days.
Welltech's Wellgate 38xx/35xx FXO/FXS SIP hardware versions seem to have
very buggy firmware possibly due to hastely done porting from H.323
firmware.
Is there anyone on this mailing list who was able to:
1. setup a 35xxA FXS with all ports authenticating properly with *?
or
2. setup a 38xx FXO to work as dial-in from pstn to

DISA & SPA3000 issues
Hi,
These days I run into something quite odd.
I have an A@H that was modified to meet our requirements.
We have a completely funtional DISA which we use pretty much all the
time.
I works flawlessly with incomming SIP calls from several providers,
IAX calls from FWD and with ZAP.
Recently we came out with a situation where it doesn't work... with

POP3 and TTS (Festival?)
Hi,
Has anybody seen a non commercial, or freeware, or GPL, or even
CHEAP... POP/IMAP to Text-to-speech?
I have a working version for POP3 using festival. It DOES
work... it even cleans the email contents to get the actual content. It
works great with Outlook emails and similar, and skips non
multipart/alternative (that would be mainly SPAM, where the email is just

oggenc (small files)
I've had this problem encoding oggs where the output file is small, like
24kbytes for a 4 minute song (tested at 128 and 160kbit). I'm running
Windows 2000 and this has happened in oggenc, oggdrop, and CDEX, though I've
also been able to get good encodings with each of these. I think the only
clean encodings have been .wav's that I've made myself with SoundForge or

Dereverberation - is it work?
Hello,
I'm using Speex1.1.11.1 source code.
I enabled dereverb by speex_preprocess_ctl(). I try different dereverb_level and dereverb_decay values and it seems to not work. I generate some test files in CoolEdit using reverb or echo and then preprocess it by speex_preprocess(preprocess, input, NULL); and output is the same as input:(.
Denoising and VAD works very good. I tried dereverb with

VOIP in Japan using Freebit
Has anyone had any experience using a VOIP provider in Japan?
No matter what I try, my REGISTER string kicks back one of 2 errors:
Got SIP response 481 "Call/Transaction Does Not Exist" back from x.x.x.x
or
Got SIP response 400 "Bad Request" back from x.x.x.x
My register string is as follows:

Speex settings and jitter
[Just curious, and seizing the opportunity to communicate with
other folks who are doing the same kind of thing I am...]
How are you measuring the latency? I tried measuring it with my
program (also Win32-based, also using DirectSound[Capture]) and came
up with around 130ms. To measure it, I placed the mic near a
speaker to get feedback going, had my program connect to itself

bassrumble, take two
Hi,
maybe this is of interest for someone out there. I found that taking the
difference between an original sample and its decoded Vorbis counterpart
is a cool way to mangle sounds (especially voice samples get a nice
weird touch :] ).
A side effect is that the result is not only exactly what information
the encoder omits, it also contains things that it adds to the sample
(artifacts). Leaving

Download Samba 2.2.8a
I have set up Samba 2.2.8a on Linux as a PDC. Now, I want to set up BDC/"fail over" on Linux. I have already found some useful information to configure BDC on Linux eventhough Samba 2.X officialy doesn't support.
Does anyone know where can I get Samba 2.2.8a? – I don’t see on samba official website.
OR
Is it okay to have Samba 2.2.8a on PDC and Samba 3.0 on BDC?
Both servers

Openssh hash request
Please forgive if this is the wrong place...
As a user of the excellent ssh and sshd I would like to see the next
version of openssh contain support for the SHA-2 hashes (SHA-256,
SHA-384, and SHA-512) as the SHA-1 hash is now known to be vulnerable to
a 2^69 and possibly a 2^63 key-space search. As of version 0.98 openssl
contained support for these hashes so it would be nice if openssh

Get SIP to work over very limited network access
I've got a friend who's spending 6 months on the other side of the world. So
before he left I configured him a softphone on his laptop to connect to my
asterisk so he can call home free of charge.
Unfortunately, he just found out he has horrible internet connection.
Bandwith and latency is ok, the problem is the stop almost all connections.
He has to connect to a proxy server for his web

Fair enough. Which batch programs should I be looking for? I had a look around,
and could not find any...
The reason speexenc seems like a good place to do this, is that it already have

However the GSM files he gives me to upload into asterisk DO NOT work when
played back throgh "Stream File" or "Get Data" in my agi. It seems that

Saved streams
Hi all,
A while back (Feb 11) Stephen Commiskey sent mail to this list with
the subject : "Seeking in a saved stream; or, Why isn't that sucker
valid?". Stephen had some problems with streams he saved from the BBC
that gave him all sorts of weird errors and resulted in his not being
able to seek in his saved streams. I tried the same thing immediately
(never saved an oggstream
